I found the physical space of Uptown! theater a big disappointment. Heres the problem: the rows on the floor of the theater are not on any incline and the stage isnt very high. The result is that you cannot see the stage fully no matter who sits in front of you. I went to see a dance performance there recently and missed about 24%-30% of the performance. You couldnt see the dancers from the thigh down. For a dance performance with a lot of ground work and people using their feet, thats a big miss. The audience doesnt see the show the way the artist intended. There are seats in the back of the theater that are raised up so Im assuming those are better. The problem is, there is no explanation on their website, so I picked out what I thought were great orchestra seats and got obstructed views. Additionally, the theater has a very wide center entrance that is empty space and which could have been used for more optimal raised seating. Honestly, I just dont understand the design philosophy of the space. Pretty much every school auditorium Ive ever been in has better seating design. I gave it two stars because the performers were good. If youre going to listen to a music performance and you dont need to see anything, it would be okay. But if you go to see a dance or play there be prepared to not see 25%-30% of the show if you are seated on the floor.
Great place to see shows. You can tell the venue has updated the building. Its very comfortable and welcoming. Has a bar where you can buy alcohol, wine, sodas, and snacks. They have shows for everyone too, from improv comedy to teen theater and everything in between. I highly recommend checking out their calendar to see what they offer.
Arrived a little early and enjoyed the bar and the décor before the doors opened. There isnt a bad seat in the theater, and the intimate stage makes it feel like a front row performance! We enjoyed the performance of Spamalot so much, performed by the resident theater company. I cant wait to go again!
A very fine addition to the Borough of West Chester. I have seen two performances, fandango music and dance and musicians from Dulwich College in London. Both were excellent. There are a variety of event from which to choose. I plan to attend on a regular basis.
Nice seating, contains a bar and the stage is large. Very clean, just opened up to the public. Highly recommended!
Great space, great seats, awesome service, and a broadway esque show. Delivered on all fronts!
Awesome events in a state of the art facility. Great for West Chester.
Not a bad seat in the house. Spamalot was very entertaining.
Spamalot was great. Fortunate to have this in West Chester.
Awesome arts space, great kids theater programs
