STAY AWAY FROM THIS THEATRE!! I always loved this theatre because of nostalgia but now it lost its touch. First of all I tried entering the back entrance near the parking garage like I always do until I got screamed at by the security guard that I cant go in that way that I have to walk around to the front. So I get to the front and all of the doors are locked except for one. I enter and pay for my tickets then walk the stairs up because the escalator was broken and gave the high school kid my ticket and he was like I have to check your purse for weapons. I stated I carry a 2 inch retractable knife for self defense because a girl needs something to defend herself with. He then stated I cant enter, after I already paid for the movie. I didnt want to walk all the way back to the parking garage and come back because I would of missed part of the movie I paid for. I like going to the movies to escape the bullcrap thats going on in the world and instead I felt like an inmate at a prison and my whole movie going experience was completely ruined!

I received tickets to see New Moon opening night (or so I thought) after donating blood. I drove 45 minutes to the theater only to be turned away at the door: the tickets they printed and gave to the blood bank had the wrong date on them. They passed the blame to the blood bank stating, "we told them to tell you that the tickets were really for tomorrow." They further explained, "we can only print tickets with a date less than 24 hours in advance, its not our fault." Actually, it was completely their fault. They printed "fake" tickets, for all intents and purposes, and then tried to pawn off the mistake to the blood bank. They should have changed the tickets by hand, put a label on the back with the real date, or how about getting a system that lets you print more than 24 hours in advance? The man at the door did not apologize for our inconvenience or even recognize the theaters mistake. I urge all of you to not go to this theater, they obviously have no respect for their patrons.

Its hard to give such a harsh rating, however it really come down to the employees over the past few years and how they havent taken care of it. They simply DONT want to work. Loads of popcorn is always on the hallway floors, employees play with their cellphones & horse play instead of greeting customers, and the standard sticky show room floors. The cinema is located in a nice shopping square in the city which should handled with great care to invite locals and out of town visitors. I visit it out of convenience and wish to visit more. To the mgmt, please take care of this place & help shine some light on the South Side Works. If the next few visits get better, Ill gladly change the rating. It really hurts to 2 star this place.

Love this cinema. Its not as high tech as others (no IMAX, only occasional 3D films), but the general aesthetics and atmosphere around it is wonderful. The outside facade is a call back to the older theaters with neon marquees that light up the darkness and the immediate interior reminds me of an old-fashioned hotel with swooping, twisted staircases and towering ceilings. It looks like you can buy tickets outside, but that seems to have been removed as an option so you still have to buy tickets inside under the grand staircase. However, they have fairly helpful staff and informative signs so you should be able to do this without a problem (just note, online tickets usually arent an option here)

You have to park at any of the numerous parking garages, and its a tiny bit of a walk, but once youre inside and upstairs, its basically a normal movie theater. They have some automated machines in the main gallery on the ground floor, but they arent always obvious to everyone, so a long line forms at the front desk. Get there a bit early, because they only have a few lines for food. This theater is very easy to get to via bus, so that helps a lot of people that have to rely on public transit. Its also really close to a few great bars and restaurants in the area for before/after the movie.

Terrible experience. Very rude staff kicked my 16 year old daughter out of the theater (during a one time only showing of an, at worst, PG 13 anime movie) while I ran to grab a soda at a neighboring business. The manager (Amanda) on duty was condescending and unhelpful. My daughter and her friend had simply gone to the bathroom and were going back to their seats, which is hardly a reason for such a harsh and confrontational reaction from the staff. Parents, do not bring your teenagers here; theyre obviously not welcome. Spend your money elsewhere as I plan on doing in the future.

Having lived two blocks from this theater, I can hardly recall how many pleasurable experiences I have had there. Always clean and one of the more comfortable theaters considering my height. Many quality attractions with in walking distance, the ability to enjoy an entire evening with the person of your choice without ever having to walk more than three blocks. If Mas only looked upon the fact that the theater was helping to bring donations to the blood bank, instead of focusing on how being denied a horrible movie somehow defines an entire service establishment.

I moved from white oak Pennsylvania to Observation Hill Next to Perrysville Ave H.S. My wife recommended this theater. Ive been there several times to see good movies. The staff is friendly and courteous. The seats are very comfortable. And the tickets are reasonably priced. I do miss DESINTA Theatre, On route 30 ,near East McKeesport, but I have found a great substitute. I highly recommend going to this theater if you live on the Southside or northside of Pittsburgh.

I personally love this theater. If it wasnt 45 minutes from my house it would be my theater of choice. However, my girlfriend lives about 15 minutes away so when we go see a movie together this is where we go. There is a friendly cast of the standard workers youd expect and they make you feel at home. The seats are very comfortable and the armrests go up for cuddling purposes. All in all this theater is top quality.

Love this theater!!! Rather go here than any suburban complex because there are sidewalks, always plenty of reasonable parking, and the urban atmosphere of this fabulous city makes you feel so alive. Then there is the architecture up and down Carson Street which alone warrants a day trip just to absorb and appreciate. Suburban squares, strip malls, and centers are bland boxes designed by robots.

Ive only been there a few times, but that was enough to convince me that future returns are inevitable. Comfortable seating for movies that are long lasting. The concession stand offers all the traditional movie theater staples I have been accustomed to over the years. The concession stand also has specials throughout the week to lighten the cost of going out to a movie. Well worth the visit.
