Two thumbs up, five stars, and A+ all the way for Row House Cinema! They get the things right that patrons need: eclectic film selections, friendly and helpful customer service, lots of brews to drink while watching your movie, yummy popcorn with real butter (thats important stuff, folks), all designed to bring you into their cozy 80-plus seat theater. The movies are typically grouped into themed weeks, and their choices are wonderfully unpredictable. From sci-fi to anime, Robin Williams to Schwarzenegger, Spielberg to Kurosawa, its all in the mix. Come enjoy sell-out shows of films as diverse as 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, MY NEIGHBOR TUTORO, and BLADE RUNNER with audiences that appreciate the experience. Even the movie trailers are made by their staff. This is about as independent as local business gets! Row House is available for rental, in case youd like to host an event there or show a movie of your choosing privately for guests (do it -- its a LOT of fun!). Youll even get a customized marquee with it and the staff will bend over backwards to accommodate you. I did this for my birthday and it went over big time! Cautions: when theyre busy, theyre BUSY, and you may have to wait to get your movie tickets and concessions. Also, as diverse as their selections are, they still cater to a specific audience. It would be nice to see movie theme weeks which show an appeal to people outside of Lawrenceville and other demographics. Well give it time and see if our favorite local theater continues to grow. In the meantime, its lights, camera, and action...roll on down to Row House and have a seat. Just dont try taking mine...its the one with my name on it!

I have yet to STEP FOOT Inside The "ROW HOUSE CINEMA" on BUTLER Street in LAWRENCEVILLE. My Family & I lived on the 2nd & 3rd Floor of a house on 43rd Street. On BUTLER Street there was a GREAT OLD MOVIE THEATRE called The "ARSENAL" Theatre. When We lived on 43rd Street, My Mom or Dad would take me around the CORNER to see whatever Movie that was PLAYING at the time at The "ARSENAL". Well, MAYBE NOT every Movie that WAS PLAYING, but if it was APPROPRIATE, Id see it. When The "ARSENAL" was PURCHASED & TORN DOWN, I felt LOST w/o a "MOVIE HOUSE" to go to. I would take a STREETCAR & later a BUS to EITHER DOWNTOWN PGH or to EAST LIBERTY to see MOVIES. When I heard that a "MOVIE THEATRE" was COMING TO LAWRENCEVILLE, I was VERY HAPPY. LAWRENCEVILLES Changing into an UPSCALE PLACE to LIVE & a MOVIE HOUSE was going to be a WELCOMED ADDITION to the NEIGHBORHOOD. The "ROW HOUSE CINEMA" has a VERY IMPRESSIVE LIST of "NOW PLAYING" Movies & "COMING ATTRACTION" Movies. Ive talked to a FEW FRIENDS whove gone to the BUTLER Street location to see their Films & Ive heard of HOW NICE IT IS. Ive seen pictures & heard on HOW NICE & COMFORTABLE the OWNERS have made it into an ENJOYABLE MOVIE GOING EXPERIENCE FOR ALL MOVIE LOVERS. My Wife & I do PLAN ON GOING.

I love this small local theater that serves fresh natural popcorn with butter or chocolate (both are delicious), snacks and beer!! I first attended last week twice with my daughter during the Pittsburgh International Childrens Film Fest. The films were awesome, the volume was at a nice safe level, the seats were comfy, the staff are super nice, and we had a great time with lots of other kids!! We got a 10 visit pass and cannot wait to go back and enjoy more movies together! It is so wonderful to have a nice theater in town that caters to all ages!

This place cant be better. The popcorn is the best in town and they use real butter, this alone is worth going. The beer and pop selection is of the best in the city and you can take it right into the theater with you. check them out for private events! The sales and floor staff are awesome at this and can pretty much put anything together. I have been 4 times since going to a private event and its been better and better.

I found this little gem on a fluke one evening. When I looked it up I could not believe that they did theme weeks! So off to "Singing in the Rain" we went. Ihad forgotten my wallet there and we saw the last show of the night. I placed an call and left a message. The next morning theh had called me back and found my wallet. I love the atmosphere and the concept. We already have plans for the future movie outings.

I had a great experience here watching Donnie Darko with some friends and enjoying good beer from the Atlas bottle shop. This is definitely a worthwhile experience, but keep in mind there is only one screen and the theater is small so if you know there will be high demand for a show get there early to make sure you get a seat. Otherwise, grab some brews and have a great time!

This is an awesome place to see old movies. Not only is there an enormous selection of beers to choose from next door (to be enjoyed during the movie) they even have runs of different themes, like foreign films from a specific director or a specific theme. Before or after the movie, you can also enjoy a delicious meal at one of the restaurants nearby (my favorite is Smoke).

I love having this theater in the neighborhood. They always show good movies and the themes they pick for the week are often very clever. I am taking just one start off because I think the weeknight tickets are a little pricey for second run movies, but if youre a resident or a student you can get a dollar off. Their popcorn is great, and so is their beer selection!

Amazing single screen theater with an excellent selection and variety of films. They play a series of 3-4 films per week with a common theme, giving audiences a chance to see rare/old/foreign/art films on the big screen, as well as more recent and mainstream ones. They also serve excellent popcorn and beer, which just makes the experience all the better.

Great atmosphere, very clean environment, the man running the concession stand was very nice and helpful, when it was our first time. The popcorn was horrid, though. Tasted like pure metal. Im guessing it had been sitting for a few hours, maybe a whole day. Not good. Still a decent experience, but popcorn is one of the main parts of a movie experience.

Row House never shows first run films. This is awesome. They keep a consistently rotating film festival style format for programming that will at some point cover a theme that you will want to watch. Add easy availability of craft brews and next door access to Smoke and this is one of my favorite places to go in the Burgh.

Row House is one of the best places in the city to catch a movie. The large variety they show makes it difficult to not catch a movie here frequently. I love that it allows me to experience movies that have been out for years in a theater. Definitely check out there schedule if youre looking for something to do.

They have such a great ability to plan theme weeks. The pricing is very reasonable, and the movie passes make it even more so. The beer selection is top notch, and the snacks are better than what youd get a typical theater. My only gripe has been the tiny seats, but its worth it for the shows they put on.
