I want to put this review in context so it will hopefully help others. I made a tee time yesterday for this morning. I travel to a town that is 60 miles away so to play here requires a small amount of planning. Now this morning I was driving to the golf course and the pro shop did call to notify me that it is walking only, since it hasnt rained overnight this would have been good information to know when I made the tee time because the previous day would have been just as wet and wouldve been walking only as well. Now to the course conditions I understand with a rain saturated course you cant mow it but here is another place management failed, I paid the same fee as if the course was in great shape. Correction minus $20 for waking only (no cast fee). Now to the reason I walked off after 6 holes, the mosquitos. Granted, the person in the shop advised me that spray is very necessary I had sprayed the whole can onto just myself after 5 holes. And even after the can had been applied it still didnt stop them. Im am very disappointed that I spent $79 for an unmown, mosquito infested torture 1/3 round of golf. Lastly, I played this course when it first opened and the whole course was mown like the run up areas are now it was the reason I would drive 60 miles to play it. I can tell it isnt maintained with the same attention to detail. Even without being mown I can see the outline of the fairway which doesnt have the charm of the way the course was originally set-up. I would brag to my friends that the whole course was like hitting from the fringe this is something I can no longer tell my friends when I travel back home. Long story short, ask questions when you make your tee time, and I do feel cheated to pay normal fee for subpar conditions. Hopefully this helps.

My family and I spent a week in Port A and I had played this course twice. Once with my wife and 2 kids in the same cart. The staff welcomed the whole family and were very nice to all. I purposely picked a slow day and my son (6 yrs) and my wife even putted a few greens with me. Everyone had a great time. A few days later I played on a Sunday (alone) and was able to enjoy the round a bit better not watching over kids, etc. Staff again- fantastic - friendly. Helpful. Cleaned clubs when done- all good. The practice facilities were great- good driving range, separate green for chipping and sand practice and another green for putting. The course itself is in a word- FANTASTIC! Great layout (Arnold Palmer does it again!) and the condition was superb. The fairways were immaculate and in GREAT shape. Bunkers in good shape. Greens had a good speed and putted true. Some subtle breaks but nothing cant read. I played the blue tees (~ 65-6600 yds.) and found plenty of challenges. A bit pricey at $90 per round but worth it. 2-3 holes had views of the ocean. Having played all over Texas- Colorado-Calif.(Pebble Beach)- this course was among the best. Treat yourself and play it at least twice! Good Luck!

All I have to say is WOW! Prior to coming down I read all the reviews and was extremely excited to play. This course, staff, clubhouse and amenities did not disappoint what so ever. The rate I booked on golfnow was almost stealing. I looked around to make sure the Port A police werent there! All the greens rolled true to the line and fair in speed. I commend the staff for the hard work on 11 green from the spring breakers that damaged it. Let me know if you find them. (Im here to help in seeking Texas justice.) The fairways felt like walking on velvet carpet and the tee boxes were kept clean of debris. The new clubhouse and grill still have the new car smell and in wonderful condition. The architecture resembles the surrounding structures and stays true to that beach feeling. However, since this is a destination course, I wish the website was a little more up to date with pictures of each hole with a description. (Virtual tour etc...) I know, I know thats ticky-tac but it would help in preparation. Wonderful job by all! I look forward to playing again on Monday.

I had scheduled a tee time and specifically asked for rates for a Friday and was informed of certain discounts - senior, retired military, active duty miltary, etc. Showed up for tee time on Friday (Memorial Day Weekend) with active duty and retired military and was told that no discounts applied during the weekend and the weekend started on Friday.

Beautiful and very challenging course. Reminds me of the links courses in Scotland. First class course and amenities. All I know is well play again. For the casual non-competitive golfer, Id recommend playing "best ball", otherwise youll loose your shirt in golf balls. Have fun!

What a treat! cannot wait to get back and play it again. i have played course all over the country and the world, this is definitely one of my top three favs. Why did it take so long for someone to build a course of this caliber on the Gulf Coast?

I was there Dec 9, 2012. This course is in GREAT condition. The fairways were like plush carpet, and in better condition than many greens that I have been on. They even offered to clean my clubs when I was done. 2-thumbs up.

A great golfing experience. Excellent staff, layout and design. Tons of photo opportunities, just a beautiful course all the way around with an affordable price point for the amenities you get.

Went to watch our grandson play in a junior golf tournament. Management of golf course would not rent golf carts to spectators even if they were disabled... very bad policy.
