One of my favorite Fort Lauderdale landmarks. Its an old theater so it feels like stepping back in time. There are red rope lines, old movie posters all over the walls from floor to ceiling, the bathrooms (or at least the womans) are clean and classy - theres a mirrored powder room with benches and floral wall paper. The theaters are intimate and the seats lean back. They dont show all the new blockbusters; instead they show independent movies like Swiss Army Man. They do midnight showings of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. They used to have a classic film fest with movies like Some Like It Hot, Casablanca, Dr. Strangelove, The Wizard of Oz - they dont do this anymore but it was fabulous. They have a deal with the win bar next door so you can get a discount on wine and even bring it into the theater with you - this is especially nice for Rocky Horror. I would love to see them do a weekend event like the trilogy of Star Wars or The Godfather like Cinema Paradiso does. There is ample parking in the back, and some great restaurants perfect for dinner and a movie. If you like to support local, and you want interesting movie that stray from the norm, SUPPORT THE GATEWAY!

Had a wonderful experience at Gateway last evening with my wife. Built in 1951 and fully updated, we are remiss we had not visited for some time but will make it a point to return as regulars. Yes, it is like stepping back in time, but in a good way. Seats are super comfortable, the theaters spotlessly clean and the screens are playing top quality digital movies. The staff is super - not treating you like just another visitor, but rather with personal report filled with smiles and top-notch service. Theres a pleasant quirkiness to the whole atmosphere that makes the Gateway Theater a true classic! Plus, we get to support a local business and one that gives positive character to our fair city of Fort Lauderdale.

I like this theater because its not a huge, shiny multiplex. Its old, small, and kinda dingy, but it has character! They have the best popcorn, and they have a frequent customer discount card, which I appreciate. They dont show every flick that comes out, but are more selective & show more "artsy" movies. I choose to go to this theater because the patrons are respectful & well-mannered, they dont answer their cell phones and talk during the movies. A unique touch is a pillar where viewers can write on a post-it note what they thought of the movie. I hope this theater sticks around for years to come!

I really love going to this movie theater because it reminds me of what theaters used to be like. Its small and the movies they choose are usually the ones I prefer to see. I also enjoy the kiosk with the hand written movie reviews. The popcorn also tastes better there (maybe its my own spin on things that makes it so). There are a couple of good restaurants within walking distance. Its just a different feel than going to the mall. I guess its both nostalgic and urban.

Yikes. Sometimes its nice to appreciate the history with places that have history to them. I was hoping this place would be like that but it is not. This place is not run well, the movie theater is very awkwardly set up where there was a huge pole in the middle of the theater so it blocks the view for people, sound was low, really nothing enjoyable or worth re-visiting. Sorry

Excellent Must See Local theater A classic original theatre from yesterdays past. Regardless of her age this is thought to be one of the oldest and last original movie theaters in South Florida. With Fall coming up Im looking forward to the annual late night showings of the Rocky Horror Picture Show starting on September 2nd, 2017 at 11:45 PM and running through October!!

Every time I see a film at The Gateway, it is always a memorable experience. The staff is wonderful, accommodating, the treats at the concession stand are delicious, comfortable seats. I do love the posters and pictures of classic films and of movie stars of yesteryear. Overall, great vibe, and always a great time at The Gateway. Kudos to you all

Interesting theater. It hasnt been updated in a while so it has a more vintage/classic feel to it. The theater rooms still have the old tilted floor as opposed to stadium seating which can make it difficult to see the screen if someone is sitting in front of you. They also seem to play more indie movies than any other theater in the area.

Used a Groupon for 2 tix, 2 small drinks, 2 popcorns for ~$27. Went here to see Lion on a Thursday night. Theater was clean, bathrooms were clean. Audio/video quality were good. Seat was kinda squeaky, but comfortable enough. If youre in the mood to see an indie film or limited release, this is definitely the place to go in FTL.

Although I love the classic appeal of this movie theatre, the fact that it is clean and the convenience of its location, the customer service is severely lacking. With so many things going right, it is a shame management hasnt noticed their unpleasant staff...unless they are equally grumpy.

Great little theater. It looks very unassuming and honestly it is. However despite expecting a old fashion reel projector and sticky velour seats from the 70s, it was recently remodeled with new seats and nice sound and digital projection. It has a classic feel thats far a few between!

My favorite theater for indie and foreign films! They always play the best indie and foreign films out. My husband and I love it so much we drive all the way from Southwest Miami-Dade! It is worth it; the area is great with lots of restaurants for date night.

Love the Gateway! Not only does this theater have a great vintage vibe, its clean, well-run, and they show really cool films -including the much-beloved Rocky Horror Picture Show! If you havent yet been, youre in for a real treat.

Great retro place to watch s movie. Really comfortable seats with cup holders. RHPS is a tradition 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month at Midnight. They get the best movies and have an awesome concession stand.

I love the "Old School" theater look. It was so nice to see a place hold its original look. Only issue i had with the place is that the seats were almost level to each other which made it so ppl were in my way.

They show lgbtq, independent and foreign films here. Great place and the staff is nice, you can leave comments on the movie board in the front lobby. They have posters outside and inside that cool.

Do not go here if you are looking for a fancy, stadium seating kind of theater. Do go if you are looking for a classic, COMFORTABLE, movie watching experience. Place has a wonderful feel to it.

My absolute favorite theater anywhere. The atmosphere, the staff and just the fact that its a much better experience than some of these enormous theaters that move people through like cattle.

Good popcorn and soda. The theater itself is uncomfortable. I dont care if its classic, it wasnt pretty before and its hideous now, I dont know why anyone would want to keep this as a "gem".

Great deal, 20 dollars gets you 2 movie tickets, a pass for a future movie ticket, 2 drinks, large popcorn and a candy :) unheard of nowadays. Seats could be better but its classic.
