We are from the South Hills and decided to visit this small Reserve on a whim while in the area visiting Hartwood Acres (which is right next door). Parking is off of Dorseyville Rd., and be forewarned they are doing a lot of construction in the parking lot area. So it looks like you cant park there, but you can! It seems they are adding to their educational buildings. We took just a small hike around the pond, and then the kids enjoyed the natural playground area. There was wildlife all around us, beautiful flowers and forest-covered walking trails. They are doing more construction - adding some new rock paths and a bridge. We look forward to visiting again once the updates are done, and when it is a bit cooler. It was very hot they day we were there, and the bugs were out in full force. There is also a small gift/plant stop and a covered picnic area near the pond. Definitely a unique little retreat just north of the city.

*Construction underway and parking lot temporarily closed August 2017.* Beautiful nature reserve featuring meadows, woodlands, a pond and stream, as well as a nature playscape for climbing over logs, through tunnels and up into a treehouse. Great for small children and families, though dogs are prohibited. Five miles of interconnecting hiking trails will provide many habitats to explore. We often see Canada geese, chipmunks, squirrels, birds, frogs and Mallard ducks. Sometimes we see wild turkeys in the woodlands. Beechwood Farms offers summer camps, naturalist led hikes and special events throughout the year, such as Maple Sugaring demonstrations. The reserve is also home to a Native Plant Nursery with a variety of woodland and meadow plants, shrubs and trees.

I have to write this because the 2 star dog review is unfair. The reason they do not allow dogs except service ones, is because its a nature reserve. They dont want to risk disrupting animal habitats and lets be real, not all dog owners keep their pets on leashes. However, there is a dog park directly across the road and you are permitted to use Beechwoods parking lot. Its a great educational resource! They have a native plant center that sells PA native plants. A nature store that sells Droll Yankee feeders, bird seed, and lots of nature related books. They also have a summer camp program for kids and many educational programs/talks/walks for folks of all ages!

Audubon Society of Western PA (ASWP) nature store has everything needed to feed wild birds.Store sells native plants, nature related books for kids and adults, jewelry, T shirts, maple syrup and many other gift items. There is a great childrens play area and nature trails and a pond with frogs and dragonflies. Lots more to love at Beechwood Farms including many family friendly events.

Absolutely gorgeous park and to die for hiking trails! There is a wonderful kids outdoor section, but treat yourself to a hike through the woods and experience a number of different areas with beautiful trees and wildlife. A Hidden Gem!

Although it was a rainy day we were still able to explore the trails and see some wildlife. Very pretty to see, the terrain isnt smooth in many places but its a nature preserve and shouldnt have cleared walking trails.

This trail sounded so wonderful and I was excited to take my dog for a hike there. Then I read the no dog policy. Its disappointing. Hopefully in the future it will become pet friendly.

I love bringing my kids here. Even though they are still too little for all of the hikes, they really enjoy the play area. Be prepared for your kids to get dirty exploring!
