went to concrete blonde last tues.- worst concert experience ever! first, they obviously over-sold the show. there wasnt one spot in the place that you werent pushed, bumped into, or had a drink spilled on you- i realize its a concert, but come on! the floor was wall-to-wall people, every stairwell was lined with people & the walkway to the floor was jammed up- if the fire marshal would have came in the show wouldve been stopped- we werent there 10 min. before my girlfriend was nearly knocked over by some idiot wearing a full backpack! how did he get in with that? because there was virtually no security. concrete was great, the 3 songs i actually saw. spent the rest of the time outside! i worked over 11 yrs. in the concert security industry, seen nearly 300 shows & this one was a joke!! go to the star if the band playing only has 100 fans. if not, i wouldnt see a show there.

My friends and I saw Josiah and The Bonnevilles and LP last night. Our first time at the venue. We all were really impressed. The stage was great bc you could see really well from anywhere in the place. The acoustics were awesome and the people that work there were great as well. Especially the big security guy at the front door. Theres an outdoor area with a much needed fire pit and shelter from the inevitable rain with another bar and food as well as the bar inside. Great place to go vape or smoke and not have to give up your drink to leave the venue to smoke. The place has an intimate cozy feel but lots of space to get away from the crowd...which was sold out last night. I hope Josiah, LP and other musicians I like play there bc right now it is my favorite venue in PDX.

My first exposure to this theatre was attending the Cabaret / Burlesque version of a lost episode of Bobs Burgers... soooo, they already are winners in my book! The venue is small and intimate but still has room for row seats in the upper tear. There is a balcony and standing room for booked shows. A full bar at the back middle and Im pretty certain they host many different arrangements of shows. Book early and arrive before the line grows and youll be pretty pleased with this experience no matter the event youre coming to see. Couldnt have been happier with the show we chose to see here. Local cabaret/burlesque. The perfect match of quirky, cute and fun with sexy unicorn threesomes and balloon popping flapper girls!

From a patrons standpoint, the space was great while drinks were on the weak side. As a musician that just played an event that we packed, I want this place to shutdown. The booker stiffed us at the last minute and paid out $100 for a 5-person group. The original agreement from several months back was significantly higher. This kind of behavior should not be acceptable, so Im doing my part in hopes that people will avoid playing here. If live music is to be a sustainable form of entertainment, the kind of behavior involved with this place should not be overlooked.

Worst customer service, I bought two tickets to a show in Portland and could not make it. I have been trying to call for days to change the name on the will call but neither of their numbers will get me anywhere. Have called a number of times and just get either a screeching dial tone, or the on hold beeping noise for an hour. Have no idea how to contact them and will loose all my money to their ticket provider, whos help number has hung up on me every time after the hold signal. Most frustrating experience I have ever had with a venue.

Very disappointed with the venue and wont return. Went expecting a theater and a venue focussed on music. As the place filled it turned into an obnoxious bar with an obnoxious audience more focussed on drinking and creating a phony scene than listening to the musicians, If you love playing music, dont play the Star Theater. If you love listening to music, dont go to the Star Theater. If you want a bar scene you can go to the Star Theater or anyone of the other hundreds of thousands of bars in the country.

Based on location, I was surprised by how nice this place was - smallish stage and layout made it very intimate, and although the place was packed it was easy to see and not feel too crowded. There were various areas to choose from, bar, tables, and dance floor, and all had a great view of the stage. Also, it was a hot night, but the air conditioning was keeping up, and thats a nice change from many venues in town. Would definitely love to catch another show here.

The only negative thing I can say, is not enough people know about this venue. It has everything a quality venue should have: two hip and hospitable bartenders in both Fun Bob & Randy that can make anything, great live acts such as the Ed Forman Show and a variety of eclectic, known, and unknown bands (i.e. Melt Banana, Afroman, The Spits), and quality BBQ and Bento Boxes (justin &jeremy, tip them for that).

I attended the MFNW party that was also the inaugural show at The Star Theater. I was recently back for Red Fang/ Sizzle Pie NYE party--and what a shock! The venue is great, the decor and layout are unique and the sound system is high-quality. My only complaint is that when you get drinks at the bar, they open a tab for you and ask that you go back to the same bartender--and i got stuck with the slow chick!

This is an amazing renovated historic venue, from the moment you walk in, to their upstairs hidden balcony, and the open and very large outside patio. The sound pumps, the screen is huge with amazing clarity HD. The service is fast with great attitude, food is wide selection with amazing bento, and price is excellent. We held our Zombie & Monster Pub Crawl there and everyone cant praise this venue enough.

Great setting to enjoy music. Patio is comfortable for a break. Great food too, not just the usual fare. Drinks are good at the full bar. Staff are great people. Id actually give this place a lower rating because management recently removed water tap to make people buy more drinks but I want to encourage more people to support great live music.

The upholstery is in dire need of replacement, but thats really my only complaint. The interior is beautiful, with lots of character and eludes to some of the history of the building. (Which is actually worth a read) and there is an outside area with good food if you need to chillax or grab a quick smoke without having to leave the venue.

Their phone number is disconnected and customers are unable to reach anyone via phone. Huge problem if a business will not allow its customers to communicate with them! I have a broken foot and since Ive never been here, I wanted to ask about what options I have for an upcoming show that I have tickets for. Disappointing.

A beautiful, historic theater. They are always showing great movies and have a number of events, including Sing-A-Longs, which I highly recommend. One of the things I love about this theater? They still use film prints for some of the movies they show. You have to come here if you havent already.
