Only two words to describe this place "Breathtaking" and "Majestic". I am a native Portlander and this place holds a special place in my heart. The architecture is unlike any other mansion or house Ive seen in the states. Ive been to 7 countries and 18 states so its really saying a lot when I say that this is easily one of the coolest and most iconic thing you could see in Portland. Its almost as if Im in the presence of a French chateau or something! Its that grandiose. If the staircase alone doesnt make your jaw drop in awe than you must not be alive. They have this old cage like shower with water coming in every which direction. So fancy. I totally wish I had a shower like this one! Not only will the inside leave you in awe but the grand view of Portland and its mountains will leave you breathless too! Not only do the visuals give me a sentimental attachment its because my brother proposed to his wife in front of the mansion! When they came to Portland from being gone for a while we came back and had a picture taken there with their daughter! So sweet! I couldnt recommend this place more to newcomers. Its awesome too because they dont go horribly overkill on the tourist kitsch here. Just be aware of the moderately expensive fee to get in. Bring your kids too. Its a great history lesson of the pioneers of Portland!

The road to get to the parking lot was a bit scary, curvy and narrow. We thought it was a one-way because it seemed wide enough for only one car. So be careful when driving up there. If you are just going to check out the grounds or enjoy a hike or picnic it is free. However to go inside the Pittock Mansion there is a $10 fee per person. The grounds are beautiful filled with different types of flowers. The hilltop view is amazing! We thought the entrance fee was a little too much, but we wanted to experience it. It was a great experience. Most of the items are not original to the home though. We did the self guided tour and I enjoyed reading about the history of the mansion and the owners. I wasnt too impressed with the decor, I suppose it was because I expected it to have more original furnishings, so it was a bit of a let down when I found out it was recreated. Some rooms werent recreated to show the original decor, but to be more pleasing for the people touring. Overall I enjoyed my visit. And would recommend it. I dont think I would pay to tour again, but I would go for a hike and to enjoy the grounds.

Have a picnic on the lawn and enjoy the view and keep your money in your pockets because parking is free. Touring the lawn smelling the over 100 verities of roses thats free too. Romantic spot for a inexpensive date or breath taking vistas for a photo shoot its here. Want to travel back in time and get a look inside the mansion? Want to see how the Pittocks lived how their meals were cooked what the smoking room looked like? What is up with the bathroom, that shower that little sink next to that normal sized sink? The answers to these questions and more come with your payed admission. Take a self guided tour or take one of the tours with a host. Guided tours take place through out the day. An able body person can view every room in the mansion in about an hour and half. Give your self at least three hours if you want to take it all in. The three flights of stairs in the mansion are steep so stretch them hammies. There is a small elevator for those who might need it but it requires a employee to operate it so be ready to as for help. Be sure to take in a bit of Portland and visit Pittock Mansion.

The Pittock Mansion is a true labor of love. It has been painstakingly maintained and restored by the City of Portland and dedicated volunteers. It preserves the forward-thinking and somewhat idiosyncratic vision of Henry Pittock, who made his fortune by turning the Oregonian newspaper from a weekly bulletin into a daily powerhouse. It incorporates technology that was very rare at the time, including indirect electric lighting and innovative plumbing and water heating. Every detail is fascinating. I do recommend taking a tour, because theres a ton of esoteric knowledge about the place you wont hear about otherwise. The grounds are lovely and on a clear day offer a panoramic view to the East; you can see not only Mt. Hood and St. Helens, but also Rainier, Adams and the very peak of Jefferson if conditions are just right.

Parking lot is break and enter central. Staff are very aware of this and full of sympathy but have only generic signs posting a warning of leaving no valuables. We didnt, but our vehicle was broken into anyway. Staff then told us they see this "all the time". Why thanks for that observation, after the fact! How about a more suitable warning "Thieves will break vehicle windows especially if you appear to be from out of town. Dont park here!" ? Or, instead work the problem with surveillance cameras and regular security patrols. Visitors: Do not park in the far reaches of the lot (near trails), skip on the Mansion if you cant find parking closer to the lot entrance. Views of Portland from property are nice but not worth a smashed window.

Restrooms available. Steep hills and no shoulders make it not really suitable for a family bike trip. No food or drink are available there, as I remember. The best part about Pittock Mansion is that you are welcome to stroll and even picnic on the scenic grounds for free. No one will gawk at you wondering what you are doing. In fact I had the sense that most people there were not actually paying to go inside the mansion. That being said, you might want to tour it at least once. I didnt think it would be worth the money, but it was. Youre not just looking at an old house; youre hearing an interesting story about this familys life, and getting a sense of what Portland used to be like (for the wealthy at least).

Absolutely breathtaking amazing experience. I should remember the older mans name that toured us because it was amazing. He normally starts on middle floor near the ticket booth entrance and his wife plays the piano at special events like christmas there. He told us back history and made it personalized to us. He told about the house history. The pittock history. Portland history. So custom we forgot it was a house tour we were authentically connected to the guy who was pouring out history and love of everything in the area relating to the pittock mansion. Additionally if you have the experience to hike the nearby trails same day or another day absolute must experience!
