I worked here over the summer and it is a great place to work and visit. The museum is located in the heart of the Castro, SFs iconic gayborhood. If you visit be sure to ask for a tour--all the people at the front desk are volunteers!!!!! (: Also be sure to check out Harvey Milks old camera store-sadly now the HRC, The LGBT placards on Castro street in the sidewalk, the large gay flag hanging in Harvey milk Square, and the rainbow streets. SF IS AMAZING. NO OTHER CITY CAN COMPARE.

GLBT Historical Society

This museum is a little gem tucked into the Castro. Beautiful exhibits. Its small, so dont plan for more than an hour. And there are no restrooms. But its really an important space and everyone should visit.

Small museum. Pretty much one medium-large room. Probably about 20-60 mins worth of time to view (depending on how in depth you like to look). Good quality of material, but it could use a little maintenance.

One of the best things to do on Castro. My friends and I learned a lot about gay history and culture in the bay area, much of which I had no prior knowledge of. Definitely worth the $5 admission.

I came to see the Magnus Hirschfeld exhibit at the end of summer 2016. Both the exhibit and the overall museum were impressive. They packed so much info and items into a fairly small space.

Small space, but wonderfully curated. Well worth the time stopping in - and you can spend more time poring over the exhibits than you might have imagined, all of it well-spent.

Is super small- dont go in expecting to spend more than half an hour here. But their collection is vital to preserving the struggle and the history of LGBT people.

A great museum about the history of Gay San Fran. It was very interesting and those who are not sure to enter, you should. Very moving as well.

So much history that might otherwise never be shared. Make time for this museum if youre in the area.
