During our visit to Portland for Christmas I took my wife and son to see the original Wizard of Oz at the Joy Cinema. What a treat it turned out to be. The movie was far better than I remember it was and a real pleasant change from all the CGI stuff we see these days. The couple at the concession, who we think were the owners, were very friendly and chatty. The cinema was clean and comfy but the best part was the sound system didnt deafen you unlike most modern cinemas that seem to think the louder they are the better they are. The place lacks all the razmatazz of modern multi-screen cinemas but makes up for it with a great atmosphere and a fantastic price. Cant beat their crazy prices on a Monday - $1. Concession prices are very reasonable considering that is how they make any profit. Oh and BTW - be considerate to the owners. They offer great old movies for the cheapest price in town so PLEASE dont bring any food or drink with you. They have to make a living too.

Joy Cinema is a fun, locally owned theater to go watch 2nd run films as well as other movies during special days. The theater offers a fair selection of decent concessions including pizza, hot dogs, beer, cider, and of course popcorn and soda. While the food items are definitely marked up a little, the amount you get is way more per size for less than at a traditional theater. Tickets are quite affordable too which is nice for those looking to watch a movie on the cheap. They even have special nights where you can see older films for cheaper or even free. The only draw back is that it is an older theater so font expect large plush leather seating. Still, the experience is comfortable enough and the price, film offerings, and friendly staff make it worth a go.

I love this theater. They used to just run Baliwood movies, but I think its been under new ownership for the last couple years now. You can tell that the owners really love movies, and work hard to provide a great experience for everyone. To be sure, this is a very old theater, and some of the seats are in disrepair or completely broken, but improvements are being made every day, and this theater continues to only get better. They keep things on the cheap by showing second run and older movies, but that doesnt affect the quality of the viewing experience. Give them a shot, youll not want to go back to the multisupermegaplex cattle herding experience you get everywhere else.

Independently owned and operated. Shows mostly second-run features and B-horror films on Wednesday evenings. Regular classic films like Casablanca, Jaws, The Birds, etc., are regularly rotated through as well. Nice food options, good prices. But the best part of Joy Cinema are the incredibly enthusiastic staff. They make the movie-going experience personal like it used to be before cineplexes. We love Joy Cinema so much, we spent my birthday there. Go have a *real* experience at the movies!

We dont go out to movies often, so we come here half of the time when we do go to the movies. The owner and staff are always great, very kind and energetic. If you cant afford to go to the movies (who can, these days?!), you can still get tickets, popcorn, candy, and draft beer for about $20 on Dollar Mondays and its only about $30 the rest of the week. No, this is not a premium theater, but its a staple of our town and we like to support them, and save some money at the same time.

Weird Wednesday . . . That says it all! The most fun youre going to have on a Wednesday night, and its free! Really. The movies are fun, trashy, artsy, scary, historical, rare, B movies, perhaps some should be called C movies, but you will never be disappointed if you are into vintage, classic cinema. Many thanks to Joy Cinema and Pub owner, Jeff, for countless hours of entertainment he gives to the greater Tigard community. And, the pizza, hot dogs and beer make it even better!

A QUINT SLICE OF MOVIE THEATER GOING FROM YESTERYEAR. A OLD TIME MOVIE HOUSE (often showing old time movies) AND OLD TIME PRICES THAT WONT BREAK THE BUDGET. THE OWNER & STAFF ARE SOME OF THE MOST CURTISS & CONSIDERATE PEOPLE IN THE BUISNESS (and Ive been going to movie houses for 50 years, I should know, YA think!) ONE OF MY FAVORITE PLACES TO "HANG OUT" ON WEDNDAY. STOP IN AND SEE FOR YOURSELF. JEFF MARTIN (the owner) WILL ALWAYS MAKE YOU FEEL WELCOME.

Worst movie theater experience ever. Will never go there again. The owner put me in one of the most uncomfortable situations ive ever been in. All to save a few bucks apparently. Common decency was no where to be seen there. And for the customer service.. what customer service? I left the joy cinema in TEARS. Literally. Appalled. And anyone that asks me about this location, i will tell them the same thing. $1 movie night? You get what you pay for.

Love the single theatre cinema! Its nice only having to pay 5$ - 6$ for 3D, (and on Mondays its $1 or $2 3D) for big time movies. Rogue One Starwars, Moana, Fantastic Beasts..., And Ms. Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children are a few that I have seen there. I actually wait now when a movie I want to see comes out until its at the Joy. This way I can still see it on big screen, only with a Third of the price and a glass of wine or beer!

My husband and I love going to The Joy! Its a cute little theater with a very relaxed and comfortable feel to it. My favorite part is that since it is independently owned they show things aside from newer movies. I never would have had the opportunity to see movies like Jaws, Its a Wonderful Life or Princess Bride in the theater if it wasnt for The Joy. :] They are also very reasonably priced and have a good concession selection.

Excellent price, 2nd run theater. Sign up on email when you go and get the movies emailed to you. 3D for $6? amazing Did bday here and it went smoothly and so easy. Kids loved it and I could bring my own DVD for any movie!! And a Pokemon gym! I caught 4 in the parking lot and battled before movie started with other people. Gym changed color 3 times and I got tons of points. Fun!!!

They have THE worst movies in town...on Free Movie Night Wednesdays and they are an absolute blast to watch with the ever growing crowd of people there. The owner and concession stand employee have always been very nice and welcoming. I try to make it out there every Wednesday and everyone else should too. Did I mention they have a good selection of beer? I feel like thats important.

On Mondays they sell tickets for $1 for regular showings and $2 for 3D showings. The line was a bit slow getting in but we didnt miss anything since they wait for everyone before they start the movie. I did notice that the theatre was pretty dirty but this is probably because they only have one theatre room so people come in and out leaving no time to pick up after messy movie goers.

Very cheap movies, and the place is fun if youre looking for a campy/divey feel. There arent great food/beverage options though, so come after dinner. I wouldnt recommend this for a first-date (meeting a stranger + divey place = creepy), but would definitely recommend for an inexpensive date night if you both know each other a bit
