In a nutshell: cheap fun! Have a gaggle of kids that need to see that animated feature on the big screen? You want to be here on a Monday, at $1 a head the price cant be beat. The rest of the week you can still see a movie with a fiver and get change back! $4.75 is the current going rate, remember when all movies cost that? For most of its existence the theater was cash only but they can now accept plastic, there has been one instance where the machine was down but there is an ATM conveniently located in the lobby by the Pac-Man machine - oh yeah, you can play Pac-Man for a quarter if you show up early. Candy, soda and popcorn all for reasonable prices plus beer and wine for those of age...And pizza for all. ** If you need a gluten free pizza, grab it from Schmizza and they will let you bring it in. They are partnered with the Pizza Schmizza in the strip mall. The theater is small and "cozy", the seats are broken in the bathroom is so old it has a powder room attached but its usually clean. Staff is small but always friendly, plenty of parking and next door to a bowling alley if your group cant agree on an activity. Been here tons of times and never a bad experience.

This is an update from a year ago...9/9/17 No longer my fav theater, sorry to say. Hiked up prices for rundown theater and second run movie. Several rows of seats (5) not in use- broken. The admission for 3 is approximately 15, and with food and drinks 25 more = $39. Under the last owner, this would have been closer to $20. And never experienced broken down seating. Bathrooms were spotless for a bargain price theater. Paid more like forty dollars for food and admission into a rundown theater for second run movie. Enjoyed the place for decades with family, but wont be going back anytime soon. They really need to fix the several rows of seats instead of taping them off, if theyre hiking prices. One review mentioned the broken seats 6 months ago! So very tacky and not my idea of a cheap second run movie. Previous owners had a great thing going. Next time...Wunderland for second run movies, food and games to boot. They truely have the "BEST" prices in town. Very dissappointed.

My gf and I just discovered this little movie theater today and were both in love with it. We went to go see Captain America Civil War after having missed it in theaters when it first came out and now Im glad we did. The price for the movie, popcorn, drinks and snacks was more then reasonable and the staff was very personable and kind. I didnt get the feeling of cattle being herded through the snack line like you get in larger theaters which made the whole experience for me far more relaxing. While the theater itself has some wear and tear its all cosmetic and nothing more. The building is clean and has such a... nostalgic feel to it. It reminds me of going to the small hometown theater with my friends when I was a kid. It reminded me of what I loved so much about cinema and going to the theater in the first place. It doesnt have any fancy bells or whistles to it, but its clean and honest. Id defiantly recommend it to anyone who wants a fun night out at the movies.

A small theater doing second run stuff at a discount, which is totally cool. What was NOT cool was the fact that they only take cash and dont let you know that very obviously when you come in to buy tickets/concessions. After waiting in line and purposefully looking for a non-existant "Cash Only" sign, they informed me about their policy and pointed to the ATM in the corner. Well, I was charged $2.75 for the withdrawal fee by the ATM company, and another $2.50 from my bank. Awesome Valley Theater! Leaves me feeling a little violated in retrospect. Had to get back in line and start over. Ended up not really being much cheaper than a first run theater during matinee times. They seriously couldnt do something like Square to not pass on unnecessary charges to customers?

Valley Theater has been our neighborhood theater for over a year now. We love it. First off, Valley has phenomenal features for a 2nd run theater. It has new movies each week and even features that were released only a month or so back. They have dollar Mondays which are excellent. Their concessions are great (pizza and beer) and have very friendly staff. Cash only so bring it or use the atm (with minimal atm fee). I would say this is one of the best cheap theaters in all of Portland (and ive been to most). Rivals even Laurelhurst. So lucky to have this in our backyard.

This is a great second run theater that servers beers and great movie lineups. The staff are always friendly, prices are great, good deals on concession and the best part its affordable. They get pizzas from the pizza shop and its fresh. Good location, good people, great prices and good movies. totally recommend this small community theater. They even play Bollywood movie, so its kind of different and exciting.. totally recommend this place because they have family movies and others movies for all ages.

Coming to this cinema reminded me of how nice and fun it used to be to see movies. Ever since moving to Oregon Ive had trouble finding a theater that has good food, drinks, and that doesnt pander to the trash the larger bait and switch cinemas love to attract. In short, I will continue to frequent this theater, and spread my awesome experience to friends. I did notice some pathetic wannabe "tags" in the bathroom, but thankfully the kids that did it are still literate and considerate, just confused.

Like many reviewers have said here, this place is old school and a good bargain. But since the seats are so old (and Americans waistlines have gotten larger every decade), larger patrons may have a hard time sitting in them. Not to knock the theater itself, I enjoyed going. If you are 250+ lbs., however, be prepared to possibly be very uncomfortable. YMMV, so youll have to decide if thats ok for you.

Love how much I can save going here compared to every other theater around, love that I can get pizza and some rows have small tables to place my food and drinks on. Only major downside is that the popcorn can be stale if you get a late batch, or just get cold popcorn, it has happened to me too many times for my liking and would like to see that fixed. Other then that great theater.

I really need to visit the Valley Theater more often. My experiences there have been uniformly good - except when Ive driven there to see a movie and found that it wasnt playing because the schedule changes through the week, not as much as it used to, though. Really, a good theater. And I believe they still show real 35mm films. I definitely need to go there again.

Listen its not just about the lower prices you can step back in time by visiting these types of places throughout life. Portland still has these places around support them or you will see what I have already seen on the East Coast/Midwest. Seeing movies in a 20+ metroplex Walmart like environment is not enjoyable. Hope this place is around for many more years.

My family has been coming to the Valley for many, many years. In recent years, it has picked up movies just as they come off first run. It is a very comfortable, family type theater with good snacks and great beer. The folks working there are really nice. Thanks for making movies affordable and keeping the Valley going. Keep on going, Valley. We love you.
