The park is beautiful, even if it is not what people traditionally think of as a park. It isnt grassy and sheltered by huge lovely trees like so many other parks in Portland, including the neighboring park blocks downtown. But it is a large area devoted to recreation. There is a board game library and the wonderful Teachers Fountain. There is a giant chess set as well. It is a nice place to hang out with your friends or kids at almost any time. The lights reflecting off the water of the fountain can also be quite romantic.

The perfect lunch spot...A book from the library, Public Domain iced coffee and feet in the fountain...I must be on break at Director Park on a gorgeous summer day. This park is far less crowded and does not have nearly as many hyper kids running through the water like Jameson Park. It also does not have the pretentious business feel like Pioneer Square. If your looking for a clean, relaxing downtown park this is the spot.

Keine Sehenswürdigkeit die ganz oben auf der ToDo Liste stehen muss. Viel genutztes Lager für gestrandete Seelen die kein Dach über dem Kopf haben.

Again, this is a plaza bit a park! The trees lining its perimeter will never offer sufficient shade for cooling, making the somewhat cool fountain/wading pool of limited use to all but lizards and children. If I see those rotten califecal misters installed at Elephants Ill know its past time for me to move.

I love this new-ish park. Portland needs many more of these public patio/public living room spaces. Its a great place to people watch, a perfect place to sit and have a coffee while you wait for a movie across the street, and its a good mix of all types of Portlanders.

Often worth the walk here from food carts. Sunny, open plaza for the solar-powered. Large fountain that often contributes to the ambience. Often sufficient seating to find a few spots. Random performances and events may cut down on the availability, though.

I enjoy the surrounding. It is a place of sanctuary when you want to unwind before or after work & get a bite to eat at the food carts that is located on SW 4th Ave. / Washington st. Its not too far! Plus, there is WiFi. A+ for me! Beautiful Portland. Oxox

This is a very interesting little park. No grass for pets or play, but it does have sculptures, ample seating, a cafe, and a giant covered sitting area with a glass roof. It is a very interesting take on a city park that does not leave much wanting.

Much quieter than Pioneer Courthouse Square Place, yet really relaxing and simply pleasant with a fountain and glass covered open roof top. Perfect place to relax after shopping or if youre a student to study or read that book youve been putting off.

This is one of my favorite parks on the West side. There are a lot of good food options in the surrounding area. There is a large covered section which is nice when its raining and there are a lot of tables around the fountain when its nice out.

One of the nicest plazas in Portland, European in style, its located on top of a huge underground parking structure- you would never know. Elephants Deli is a nice addition here, lots of place to sit and watch people playing in the fountain.

This is one of my favorite new parks in Portland. The fountains perfect for soaking your feet on a warm day and its much less crowded than Jameson Park. Also, theyve often got fun events/concerts/performances going on during summer weekends.

Not the typical park with grass and trees. This park has a fountain kids can play in, a giant chess board, a dance floor and band pavilion, and places to sit like chairs and benches. Great for events. I was there for tango in the park. Fun!

This park is in a cute plaza. It is a popular place for field trips and other fun school activities. It is right by Elephants which can give you a nice lunch with a good place to relax in. It can be well shaded depending on the time of day.

Plentiful tables and chairs, an excellent water play feature (summer only), clean restroom, oversized outdoor chess board, and adjacent restaurant make this a lovely public plaza in the best European tradition.

My favorite park, I always detour to walk through this park when Im in the neighborhood. There is a cafe and fountain to eat in or read by. After dark they have a roofed light installment that is a must see.

Fantastic urban space for all ages. The little shallow pool and fountains are lots of fun and theres a giant chess set, plus lots of cafes surrounding it. Far nicer than the Pioneer Square close by.

A white courtyard with a fountain kids can play in, a large awning and trees for shade, a giant chess set, plenty of takes, and an overall elegant atmosphere. Within walking distance of food carts.

In the warm weather there is a great water feature the kids love to play in. It has lots of tables, benches to sit and places around to get food. There is also a large chess board on the ground.

Best place to have your lunch during a sunny day in the wet Portland. Awesome water fountain and seating around it. Crowded with people working around the place during the lunch hours.

A great place to have lunch. Grab lunch from one of the food carts on SW Alder between 9th and 10th and stroll over to this park where you can find entertainment at times (music).

One if the nicest urban parks I have ever been too. The huge chess game is great fun. The moveable tables and chairs make for a comfy seat and at night the lights are beautiful.

A great park to sip on some coffee or read a paper. It is central located around many shops in town and the canopy lights up at night and it can be very pretty on a dark night.

Great architecturally but not too functional of a spot. The chairs and tables are way too small for people to sit and do meaningful work. Its in a great spot in the city

We went to the movies in this park. It was really lovely to see all kinds of people, parents and children, out listening to live music and then watching a classic film.

Nice place to have fun! Lots of people, weirdos, and families on warm, sunny days. Theres also questionable free WiFi if you dont mind random, unsecured networks.

Good food @elephants in the park. Peaceful atmosphere. Some street performers were singing and playing drums and guitar. I really got the relaxed Portland vibes

Grabbed some food from the food carts and walked here to sit down and eat. Lots of people having there lunch but its easy to find a little spot for yourself.

It bothers me that the water in the fountain is labelled as non-potable but with all the transients around, its probably not the safest place anyways.

Nice use of space that could have been poorly used. Good place to just hang for a bit if you have time to kill downtown. (And the weather is nice.)
