About 2 years ago. I decided to get a room at spirit mountain to enjoy a wonderful night. And not worry about having to drive back home after a few drinks. What seemed to be a perfect start to a perfect night, presented with wonderful people and great smiles at first sight. Turned ugly very quickly. We proceeded to check into the front office , and everything seemed okay, we got our keys, and receipt of our purchase and was on our way, walked down the hallway to the elevator and up to our room we went, eventually me and my wife got to the room and tryed to enter. We were presented with a red light. Our keys dont work. We kept trying a couple of times, to our displeasure, they didnt work. We then got our stuff and back down to the front check in office we went. Maybe the employee just forgot to register the keys to the room, it happens. They apologized for our inconvenience and gave us new keys. Back up the elevator we go and down the hallwall a 2nd time to try our new hopefully working keys. Once more we are greeted with a red light on the door, it was becoming a little frustrating at that point that our second set of room keys both didnt work. We then proceeded to go down a 3rd time to get a 3rd set of keys. This time while the front check in employee called the team lead to assist us in our difficulty, we gave her the receipt and she made the 3rd set of keys herself and said these should work. And once again apologized. Finally thinking we are about to relax and start our night. The 3rd set of keys dont work. I was starting to get extremely upset as this was our first stay with them. I proceeded to go downstairs a 4th time. While this time telling my wife to wait by our room door in the hallway with ourstuff. I go downstairs and asked for the manager. A lady showed up named susan, and asked us what the issue was. Well about chatting with her for 5 to 10 mins. She said she will have an employee come up with us with a master key. To let us into our rooms. Finally thinking we made progress. And we could finally start our night after 45 mins of going back and forth between our room and the front office. It turns out the employee with the master key couldnt get in, at that point i just wanted my money back and to go home as our night was ruined from all this running around. The maintainance guy was trying to explain that this is a very rare occurance and the units in the door run out of battery and said he will be back to give us a pair of new keys and fix the door. He said to wait by the room he will be back shortly. Extremely upset with this issue my wife was still trying to keep positive throughout it all, time was going by waiting for this guy to come back. 10 minutes turned into 20 minutes, and 20 minutes turned into 40. I said enough. We stood outside our door for 40 mins, and the guy never showed up. My wife got upset despite trying to keep positive and we went downstairs for our money back, to cut the story short from here. The manager susan apologized and offered us a 50% discount on our next stay due to all the inconveniences we had, and said she will note it into our account for our next visit. Times passes now its been 2 years since we tried to stay. we called about a room and our discount, they found our refund in record which was 2 years ago, but with no notes in the system regarding our stay. Manager is no where to be found and they dont even know when shell be back, all in all we are told they can do nothing about it. Avoid spirit mountain lodge, the casino is great I have a fantastic time everytime. But the lodge has very terrible customer service. And wont work with you at all, they leave you stranded without a care in the world. Will never attempt to stay here again. If I could rate lower I will, save your money and sleep somewhere else.

I am a regular at this casino (once a week or two). Bluntly, heres the worst thing about it: It is flat-out unacceptable that the owners of such a beautiful facility allow a minority group of smokers to DESTROY all the good things about Spirit Mountain. From the main entrance of the casino to the main entrance of the lodge, you are assaulted with a wall of stale cigarette smoke. It permeates everything. All the workers, patrons, security crew, handicapped people, and the elderly are assaulted by a minority group of smokers who have the right to harm your health. Just about everything else at Spirit Mountain is above average, including the buffet (I dont know why some people are complaining about the food here). Breakfast includes the option of made-to-order omelets (they are excellent), fresh fruit, great coffee, everything. Same with the dinner buffet. The seafood selection included clams (delicious), cedar-plank salmon, cod, Asian shrimp casserole (another favorite), and crab legs. We were so impressed. The rooms, corridors, elevators: you get the kind of deluxe accommodations you expect. Cellular services are sporadic throughout the facility (why?), cable TV selection is poor, room baths are exceptional but dimly lit (lighten them up!), clean bedding, very comfortable beds, excellent ventilation, no odor of cigarette smoke. The slots are varied and fun. Its my impression that you will lose more in Las Vegas casinos than you will at Spirit Mountain. Best advice if youre going to gamble: Try a variety of slots, and youll eventually find one that works for you. Some are more exciting to play than they are loose. I dont play table games, so I cant rate them. There is a comparatively tiny, cold non-smoking room which completely lacks the fun atmosphere of the main casino. Its pathetic, and most of the slots are boring, old, and tight. It just seems like a place to go to when you want to meditate...or die alone. Spirit Mountains biggest and only in-your-face shame is that smokers rights trump yours. If the owners EVER get their acts together and put a stop to this shame, the facility will be a first-class destination. I still love it, however. But I hate the smoke and the adverse health effects it has on me.

The rooms are spacious, clean, beds comfortable, and they have the best dirty-clothes bags of any hotel weve stayed in. The front desk staff are usually pleasant, although they sometimes are in no hurry to help you. The move away from a marginal (at best) continental breakfast to a table of stale donuts (without coffee, juice, tea, hot chocolate) was a miserable decision. And it ends at 9:00 am. They eliminated the complimentary newspaper as well, although they were usually out of them after an hour and they were either an Oregonian or USA Today anyway, so not really worth reading. They’ve cheaped out and it shows. The restaurants are abysmal. The buffet is like all buffets - bland, under or over cooked, guaranteed to have you visiting the restroom within an hour, and woefully understaffed. The deli is marginal and the sports bar is as bad as any food or service that weve ever had. The wait staff will let your meals sit under a heat lamp until the fries are tepid, the burgers dried to the consistency of cardboard, and the grease has had time to seep to the bottom of the basket. Then when the spirit finally moves them they will deliver your food and act as if they are doing you a favor. The beer choices are decent, but once they figure out that they can be spoiled by placing them beneath the heat lamps they’ll likely begin doing that as well. The gambling is no better nor worse than any other of Oregon’s casinos – you will likely lose your money, so no need to complain - you should know that before venturing to the casino. We do, so the rare win is a treat and when we lose there is no reason to grouse. But, they do have more choices for table games and slots than the others in Oregon, so you at least have lots of decent choices where to lose your money. If this review were only based on the gambling and the room wed give Spirit Mountain four stars. If it were based only on the restaurants wed give it a zero. So there you have it - two stars and they are lucky to get that. We will return, however, since we enjoy the rooms and the gambling; but well likely bring sandwich materials and our own beers and eat in the room.
