World Class Wine. Their Pinot Noir and Reisling is winning Gold and Silver awards in California. While they are mostly known for their Pinot Noir, Ive never had a better wine than their Cabernet. I giggled in amazement when I first sniffed this wine. It was a revelation. If you like dry reds and can only go to one winery, go here. Granted, Im not a big Pinot Noir fan, they had two reserves and I liked the one that wasnt winning the awards better than the famous one, so what do I know. The server described the award winner in the style of French Pinot Noirs and the other reserve in the west coast style, which were made from 25 year old vines. Truthfully, I liked the Merlot and Cabernet (did I mention that the Cabernet was the best wine I ever had?) better. Of their whites, their dry Riesling was my favorite. We first went to the original tasting room, but a sign directed us to the new one which is at 7800 Warner Rd, Madison Ohio. Prices were $1 per taste and the bottles were $17-40 each. The award winning Pinot wasnt even their most expensive bottle. The ambiance is not as nice as some other wineries in the area, but the wines are jaw-dropping good. If you are going to more than one winery, also check out Harpersfield Vineyard down the road.

The fellow behind the counter who poured our wine was cheerful and friendly, and we were enjoying our impromptu stop at this winery. Into the middle of this pleasant experience barged the owner, who greeted us with the friendly salutation, "So you are voting for the crook!!!" I did not even know what he was talking about, and was slack-jawed with confusion. My husband was quicker witted, and understood instantly the rude man had seen the bumper sticker on our car in the parking lot. He retorted, "better the crook than the idiot." And the owner ranted on about how "she would sell America to the Russians. So he is not just rude, but ignorant and ill-informed. I wanted to leave immediately, but sensible husband said, "Lets buy one bottle of wine so we dont have to pay for the tasting, and then get out of here." So we did. And of course we will never go back. We love to buy wines from local vineyards, wherever we go, and normally buy a lot, but not from this place!

If you want wine thats the result of the passionate pursuit of perfection subject to significant environmental constraints, come here. The Pinot Noir is amazing for this area and compares well to regions without so many environmental challenges. Great wine. Great winemaker.

The two reds I tried were good, but $6 for two tastes of wine is a bit much. The staff seemed confused and unprepared for customers.
