I have been to the Alrosa Villa many times. I have had some of the best times of my life, and the worst time of my life. The only place in Columbus dedicated to great hard rock and metal. A Columbus institution. Yes, I was in the crowd on December 8th, 2004, the night the world lost Dimebag Darrell, Erin Halk, Jeffery Thompson, and Nathan Bray. It was the worst night of my life, and it is still hard to believe it happened, even though my own two eyes witnessed it. But the Alrosa is NOT to blame. They had no less security than any other comparable venue in Columbus that night (or since for that matter). One of the security guys, Erin Halk gave his life trying to stop this guy - that is undeniably great security in my book. Most security guys would not have been that brave to stand up to a nutjob with a gun (who had already shot people and was not afraid to do so again). Remember, just because someone has the word security written on their back, it does not make them bulletproof. And a lack of metal detectors is not to blame - the gunman did not enter with a ticket and go in like everyone else, he jumped a large fence and ran into the patio doorway (fans were out there smoking - it was illegal to smoke in bars in Columbus at the time). And even if the club had metal detectors, and even if he would have entered through that entrance - how would a metal detector have stopped him? He could have just pulled out the gun and started shooting people in the ticket booth and crowd, and made his way in anyway. There is no such thing as security - it is merely an illusion created by man in order to feel secure. But in reality, if someone wants to kill someone, they are going to do it. Presidents of the United States have been murdered - and they have the best security money can buy. Could the Alrosa have had more security? Yeah I suppose (but that would have just made more targets) - hindsight is 20/20 and it could have happened anywhere in the world. It is not the fault of the Alrosa, and Ill support this place until the end.

in the late 70s and early 80s Columbus Ohio there was no more happening club for rock n roll / heavy metal than the "Alrosa vila" with local crowd draws such as Rosie Petty theft and the Gods in fact by the late 80s early 90s if you were in a local band who had played there you had done something National acts had rocked and as a matter of fact quite a few world famous ones (Dio, Ace Freley and Dokken even poser frontman Vince Niel) had Columbus metal heads moshing up to the rosa by 1994 I my self had been an aspiring bassist since the age of 10 now 17 I had joined band called Black Winter finaly on no less than 3 occasions the band I called home played the Alrosa vila the largest of which being a sold out show where Black Winter opened for a "metallica cover band" called Battery Later in1996 I formed my own band called Prosthetic Hed we noteably played the Alrosa on "Elvis birthday" and lost a "battle of the friends" After my own gun related head injury in1999 non-relavant merely coincidetal to the Alrosa tragedy of 2004 I never returned to the Alrosa on december 8th 2004 "dimebag" Darrell Abbot was taken from us in a flash by a lone gunman in Columbus Ohio gone too young R I P DIME now years later the alrosa stands but a shaddowed shell of its former self save for the occasional local act or dance party knock off the glory days are gone at the Alrosa vila

Ive been going to Alrosa for years and have thoroughly enjoyed it until last night. It was 1:15 (before daylight savings time) and had my beer, which was still 1/2 full, yanked out of my hand by security and go straight into the trash. He didnt even offer me the chance to finish, just YANK! I couldnt believe it! He did the same thing to one of my friends... Im not paying $5.75 for a beer to have half of it yanked from my hand. I wasnt actin a fool, wasnt fallin all over the place... he said that he wanted to get out of there and thats why he did it. Also, it is the opposite of clean and the toilets were overflowing last night. When we told security they just looked at us like we were stupid. I have never felt so like just revenue for a place. Wont be going back unless a very, very, VERY worthwhile band is in.

I saw Taproot here in November 2012. Excellent concert and a decent venue. A few things got on my nerves, though. First, the bar only accepts cash. Second, the ATM inside the joint was out of order. Third, the person at the entrance taking tickets wouldnt allow re-entry (I had cash in my car). Given all the obstacles, I can only reasonably conclude that the venue didnt actually want any more of my money. I found it ironic that the bands that staffed tables full of merch in the back were equipped to take credit cards but that the venue itself wasnt equipped to do so. So disappointing.

1. Its very dirty. 2. The sound quality was awful. 3. It was so insanely loud you had to scream at the person next to you so you could hear them when you are not even close to the stage. 4. They are so disorganized the band I wanted to see didnt even get to play because the couldnt keep their sets straight. It was my first and probably last trip here. For a place thats been open as long as they have and had big bands there I was crazy disappointed with the quality of everything.

Alrosa is THE place to see a show. Its a more intimate experience with the performers because of the smaller size of the venue and great view of the stage from anywhere inside. The outdoor area has plenty of space for smoking or getting some air while waiting for your favorite band to play (or for that weird opening band to finish ). I suggest just going to a show here even if you dont know the band. Youll have a great time.

By far one of my favorite places for concerts in all of Ohio! Place is big enough to fill with rock enthusiasts, yet small enough to grab an ice-cold beverage and not have to walk forever away from the stage! Mushroomhead needs to come back soon!!
