One of the countrys most beautiful concert halls boasts a Georgian/Neo-Classical style. Construction was completed in 1931 thanks to donations from many philanthropists like John D Rockefeller as well as a land grant from the Western Reserve Society; but, the brunt of the cost was covered by Mr. John Severence. Severence devoted the hall to his wife on completion in 1931, Elizabeth "Bessie" Dewitt Severance, who died shortly after the couple pledged the original money toward its future. Mrs. Severances love of nature and flowers are a constant motif throughout the halls ornate and stunning interior especially her fondness of the lotus flower. From the ornate silver flowering stairwells and blue jewel tones in the grand auditorium, to the gold and bronze leaf design in the atrium, this architectural feast for the senses includes a concert hall seating nearly 2,000, a chamber music hall seating 400, an ornate 6,025-pipe Ernest Skinner organ, a recording studio, and a grand foyer. A $36-million restoration and expansion of Severance Hall was completed in January 2000. Severance has long been considered one of the best-sounding concert halls in the United States, it was built as the home to the world renowned Cleveland Orchastra and is often considered one of the the most exceptional performance halls in the world. The neighboring students and faculty of The Cleveland Institute of Music uses both concert venues throughout the year. The restaurant and gift store are notable for their exceptional goods and services year round.

My wife and I saw Debussy Pelleas and Melisande last night and the orchestra was fantastic as well as the entire ensemble of guests artists. Unfortunately I could not enjoy the performance due to the ridiculous seating: so so small and very uncomfortable, it was awful and i am only 6 foot! Oh yea and Im sorry if i sound like a whiner but the bathroom situation is deplorable too: a 50 foot line for the Ladies Bathroom! Thats disgusting!!! Spend a few bucks and make some upgrades!

Visited Sammys restaurant within Severance Hall prior to a performance there last weekend. The food is excellent, particularly since it is buffet style "fine dining", which allowed me to sample the filet, the chicken and the Walleye (fish) at the same time. At only $40 per person, which includes appetizer, buffet, dessert and coffee, it is a great value for a diner who takes restaurant visits very seriously. Atmosphere is great and service staff is very professional.

Severance Hall encompasses the perfect melding of exquisite, high-class artistry with a cozy, family-friendly atmosphere. If you have come bearing a tuned ear to the classical world, you will be pleased by the quality. BUT I feel that the venue carries itself in such a way that those new to such music and artistry will not feel alienated from it. All are welcome to enjoy one of the greatest artistic experiences available today!

The theatre is beautiful and has good sound. It even has an old style elevator with an operator. The only downside is the seats. Im guessing it was built back when there werent hormones in the food making the population taller and broader. Im only 56" and I was worried about moving and hitting the lady in front of me with my knee. It looked like the box seats may have been plush chairs so Id try for those tickets.

The orchestra was amazing but the seats for $65 a piece were really disappointing, there should not be a 4th row in the boxes. The chairs dont have arms so its uncomfortable and on the side boxes, you cant even see the stage. The show from what we saw and hard was great though

The architecture, the history, and the music makes this place a must go to in Cleveland. Four of my friends and I came here last night and had a great time. We were able to take advantage of the $7 seat deal they have on Fridays here and there.

The most beautiful concert hall in the United States. YOU MUST HEAR A CONCERT HERE, preferably The Cleveland Orchestra, but the hall is visually and acoustically perfect. Called the Temple of Music upon its opening, its a spiritual experience.

Severance hall is beautiful, and home to a fantastic orchestra. With the bonus of efficient and helpful staff and parking right underneath the hall, its a good experience for any lover of classical music in Cleveland.

Classical music as it should be in a world class hall with a world class orchestra. Parking can be a challenge - buy parking with your tickets or take a cab or Uber (or take your chances on the street).

Great place to enjoy entertainment.. Catch a show or performance here seating doesnt seem bad anywhere you sit. Do arrive early because there is limited parking but do follow their parking diagrams.

Beautiful historic venue. Worth going to anything just to see the building. Tall folks will be cramped by the lack of legroom in the balcony. The seat back in front of you will dig into your shin.

Premiere concert venue for the best orchestra in North America. Sight lines and acoustics are exemplary. Dress Circle affords the best visual and auditory experience.
