I hosted a Halloween/Birthday party at this venue in October. I personally planned the event with the owners, Jen and Jonjo, for about 8 months. They were initially very helpful and excited about hosting the event. Unfortunately, things changed the night of the party. I was told that both Jen and Jonjo would be present during the event, but would be hanging out in the back, in order to make sure that they would be there if we needed anything. To the contrary, they intently watched over every move my guests made. They also hired a bouncer, which I was never informed about prior to the event, who walked around the party. Many of my guests told me how uncomfortable this made them feel. Perhaps the most awful incident of the night was when Jonjo made two of my guests leave the party because he did not approve of their costumes. This was a private Halloween costume party. None of the costumes at the party were anything more shocking than what you would find at Party City. I was so embarrassed that this happened, and many of my guests ended up leaving because of the incident with Jonjo. Jonjo also told one of my guests who had just arrived and was asking for her first drink of the night, “you’re too f**king drunk.” My guests included university professors, teachers, students, members of both the Winston-Salem and Stokes County police departments, lawyers, physicians, pharmacists, post office workers, veterinarians, members of the Winston-Salem and Greensboro Symphony and nurses. They were not some deplorable group of people, though many expressed how they were made to feel that way. Jonjo also made derogatory comments about other events that took place at this venue, including comments about the sorority party that took place a few weeks prior to my event, calling the guests “bitches.” I originally decided not to make a comment about my terrible experience, but I have recently been informed that the owner, Jonjo, has made incredibly offensive and bigoted remarks about my guests to other business owners around Winston-Salem. He has made false claims that people were performing sexual acts on the dance floor, which is astounding, given that almost no one was dancing because of how uncomfortable they felt by Jonjo and his bouncer watching over the party. It is incredibly unfortunate that I have to post this, but I feel a responsibility to let others know what to expect when looking to rent this space. I have lived in various places across the United States and have lived in North Carolina for the last 6 years. I have never felt so judged, discriminated against, and disrespected in my entire life.

What an amazing venue! My mother hosted a baby shower for my husband and I at The Roller Mill in October. I was pretty much sold on the location just by checking out their website! We set up a tour and as soon as I met the owners I knew it was the perfect fit! The husband/wife team are absolutely wonderful. Professional, hip, easy going yet extremely detail oriented! We rented out the left side (larger) room, as there are two areas in which you can host your event, or you can use both and go back and forth between the two. Its an old flour mill that they refurbished into Winston-Salems best new venue! They worked with us on the set up and allowed us to come and visit multiple times as we are visual planners and being on location made for easier organization. The day of they were both hands on and even helped us set up decorations and break down after the party! You couldnt ask for better venues owner/managers. It was BEYOND a beautiful co-Ed baby shower so I can only imagine how lovely a wedding would be. I am anxious for a friend to get married at the Roller Mill so I can find out for myself! They have lots of exciting plans in the works, including open mic nights and renovating the empty outdoor space to the left of the building. I plan to keep up every step of the way and cannot wait to go back! I cannot recommend this venue enough!! Like all beautiful things, pictures dont do it justice, so stop by and check it out/set up a tour ASAP. Thanks again to Jen & Jonjo!!! :)

I met Jen and Jonjo last fall and was highly impressed with them and their place! I have held countless events and functions with many venues across Winston Salem as well as other areas across NC. My experience with them by far was one of my best. They go above and beyond ensuring that the hosts get the most out of their event and they accomplish the vision they set out for. When trying to set up and get everything prepared for my event they jumped in and was hands on to make sure we could get everything decorated and prepared prior to the guests arrival. They are both gregarious hosts and they make sure that every guests has a great time at their event center. I would recommend them to anyone that is considering having an event no matter how small or large because they will make it a memorable experience for everyone.

I have used The Roller Mill for two work events. Jonjo and Jen were accommodating, professional, and helpful from start to finish. They personally attended to all details, including room set-up, coordinating with catering, parking, linens, flowers, lighting and music. The facility is beautiful and well maintained. Jonjos restoration of the space and reuse of all the materials in the roller mill make this a unique and welcoming venue for all kinds of events. Pricing was very fair and the contract included all details up front. We are lucky to have a local gem like this space, not to mention two great people like Jonjo and Jen.

In response to the owners reply to my review: We heard from another business owner that you were making homophobic and derogatory remarks about the guests at our party at their place of business. That business owner was extremely offended by what you were saying and asked you to leave their establishment. As for you saying that you do not talk about previous clients, you are not being truthful, as I heard you, first-hand, say inappropriate things about previous clients (the sorority party in particular) and I also heard how rude you were to my guests. We will not be recommending you to others.

I have attended/organized a few events here and have always had a fantastic experience. The venue and facilities have a beautiful vintage industrial look, but feel very modern. All the interactions Ive had with Jonjo and Jennifer (the owners) have been overwhelmingly positive, theyre frankly two of the sweetest, most professional people Ive met. The Roller Mill is always my first recommendation to anyone looking for a venue for a wedding or special event.
