I recently had a lovely one-night stay at the Kimpton Cardinal Hotel in W-S, NC. This hotel is housed in the former RJR building, a W-S landmark. My stay was a 24 hour "mini vacation" for a stressed, tired mom, an early Mothers Day present to myself! Valet service and check in were friendly and efficient; Carlton is a treasure! There is coffee/tea service in the mornings and a wine reception in the early evenings in the "living room" off the lobby. I booked a King Spa room and it was wonderful. A yoga mat was provided, a soaking tub greatly appreciated and, to top it off, an in-room massage the next morning (TY, Kevin). The room was clean and nicely appointed, with unexpected, whimsical touches here and there. The bed was comfortable and the foam pillows I prefer were provided. I had dinner and drinks with a friend at the on-site restaurant, Katherines, modeled after a French brasserie. The food was delicious. The table service was haphazard, though. After-dinner drinks in the bar were creative and tasty. The bar staff was friendly and accommodating, helping me out with a special request (shout out to Josh!) If you have a chance to visit, you must check out the lower levels, beneath the lobby level. There is a mini bowling alley, a basketball court, multi-level slide and numerous comfy spaces to play a game of cards, watch a game or chat with friends. I will definitely stay here again and would recommend to my friends without hesitation.

Front desk staff is NEVER on the same page, they took out more money than what was stated and didnt have our room cleaned the whole weekend. Staff is completely disorganized the rooms are over priced and you dont get anything out of it but a bed because god forbid you touch anything thats in that room that isnt yours they will charge you. And even though we told front desk a million times we were paying in cash they took out money from our debit cards THAT ANDRE THE FRONT DESK GUY SAID WOULD MNT HAVE BEEN TOUCHED ITS JUST USED TO HOLD THE ROOM. And well were double charged and now screwed because we have to wait 4 business days to release that money. And they "cant do anything about this" as they stated even though everything went wrong because of them. To top it off the made me pay for my mothers room and she paid for mine so that was a mix up on their end and they suck at cleaning rooms because mine never got touched and there were dirty mugs of coffee in my moms bedroom worst absolute hotel service gorgeous but over priced and overall not worth it place to stay.

The hotel itself is very beautiful and the room was immaculate and well appointed. The hotel employees were all extremely professional and courteous. The first room we were given had a huge, noisy air-conditioning unit right outside the window, but they moved us across the hall, so no problems there. This room was very quiet and comfortable. We had dinner in the Katharine and the food was very good, although a few items seemed quite overpriced. The service was very good also. The main disappointment was the noise level in the restaurant. It was almost impossible to have a conversation or hear the server. This is an unacceptable situation when spending this amount on a dining experience. If they can solve the noise problem here, it could be a 5 star review.

A great location in a historic building. Room are modest in size and well appointed. Small things prevented a higher rating. Had to call the desk because We couldnt figure out how to turn on bedside light, the electrical outlets /charging port not working until I moved the nightstand and plugged it in, no ice bucket or coffee in the room. Coffee available in the lobby only at 7am. Restaurant noisy, bar even more so. Service and food quite good. Just do not ask for a martini glass; nonexistent. They serve them in cheap champagne glass like one finds at a banquet hall wedding. Corrections of a few things and they might get 4 stars

Attended National Black Theater Festival and stayed at the Kimpton. I spoke with many other festival attendee who paid significantly less rm. rates than me, all of whom were offered festival discount rates. This discount was not offered to me. I was reluctantly given AARP once I inquired. I attend this festival every other yr. and would like to have your facility affordable to recommend and to return myself other times. Your front desk people and the central 800# passed me back and forth w/o anyone being to speak to me regarding my concern. I hope that piece of your service improves soon. Marian Johnson

I love the Kimptons. I always stay there with my 2 big dogs, and they are always welcome - truly! There is no pet fee, no weight limit (1 is 65lbs the other is 80lbs), and always comfy beds for them and treats! The rooms are comfortable, as a reward member I get a credit for the mini bar in the room and free wifi. This last trip, they went above and beyond as I was traveling pregnant and with the 2 pups by myself. I forgot my charger in the car - at 9pm they got it for me. They forgot the dog beds and dog bowls in the room, and comped my valet charge as an apology. It is always worth it to stay with them!

Hidden gem in small town America! Customer service is top notch. Swanky, yet comfortable atmosphere. Every inch has a designers touch. Rooms are very spacious and well laid out. Walk in glass showers with full amenities make mornings a treat. Bedding is very luxurious and comfortable. Wine reception every evening from 5-6 with nibbles is fun and relaxing. Bar and restaurant offer southern sophistication with reasonable prices. The adult play ground or rec room is by far the coolest! The only hotel worth staying at in all of Winston-Salem!

We went in for lunch early(1115amish). It took a moment to figure out if they were open. The server finally greeted us and we sat down. He was nice enough but did not go over and beyond to make us feel welcome. The food was good. I had a Career Salad and I could tell the dressing was housemade. We als had the burger and the chicken sandwich with fries. The fries were delicious. They were out of the chocolate cake for dessert that we had heard gave reviews on. That was a disappointment. Overall it was a decent experience.

A really nice hotel that is HUGELY pet friendly. If you travel with a pet, you must stay here. The rooms are top end, they have lots of amenities, including a bowling alley, and the staff is excellent. The hotel is a near replica of the Empire State Building and is within easy walking distance to bars, restaurants, and bistros. Our only rub: they offer discounts but you need to ask for them. We qualified for a military discount but didnt get it because we didnt ask ahead of time.

I was really liking this hotel until I was checking out and the person at the front desk took a phone call right in the middle of our transaction and made me wait for what it seemed like forever. Also, the servers in the restaurant have a real attitude and they all need to be fired. I just wanted to ask the chef how they made their poached eggs so perfect and one of the servers cut me off and said "they are too busy to talk to you"...UNACCEPTABLE!
