The customer service at the bar was terrible. My cousin and I were there on Saturday 9/5 at 11pm to have few drinks some apps and chit chat. We got seats at the bar right away and waited for the pretty, long black hair , young lady to ask us what we were having. She never acknowledged us. She asked people on our right and left, people that just got there behind us and even people further down the bar, what they were having. My cousin and I looked at each other and were very confused. We even started laughing wondering what was wrong with this young lady. She spoke to and laughed with the guy to my right and also spoke to the people next to my cousin. After 20 minutes a very nice guy on the other end of the bar came to her side of the bar and asked us what we were having. We ordered drinks and apps. So this kept on where the guy kept coming from the other end of the bar to assist us. Then a guy came to the bar and she asked him what he was having. He told her his order and also told her to get a drink for me and my cousin. I immediately looked at my cousin and said she cant get it because she doesnt know what we are having because she will not look at us or speak to us. But to our surprise she did. She asked my cousin what she was having and my cousin told her a regular mojito and i told her a white wine. Well she brought back my cousin a blue drink and told her "oh im sorry i brought you the wrong drink". At that point we were just fed up with her deplorable customer service skills so my cousin said its ok. Another hour went by. She would never ask us if we wanted a refill so we had to wait for the guy down the bar to assist. So after these many words my most important comment here is WHY does Don Coqui have people like that working the bar. Everybody neds a job so put her where she has little interaction with the public. I have never been treated so rudely in my entire life. I have been to all of the Don Coquis establishments and this is a first. All of the staff i have had interations with have always been amazing so i was taken aback by this one. Jimmy please pay attention to this comment and play back the tape.

I was a big fan of Don Coqui when they opened the first restaurant in New Rochelle. I was happy when they opened in White Plains, as it was closer to me. The food was always consistent and delicious. Today I went there for the first time in 2 years and boy was I disappointed! When we arrived, there was only 1 couple having dinner there....I figured that would be typical for a Thursday evening. Then when I opened the menu, I was disappointed to see that half of the menu was gone. All of the good options they had in the past was no longer on the menu. I tried to order a side that was listed on the menu & the waiter informed me that they no longer have that & that the menu needs to be updated....there goes another thing off the menu. So I ordered something that I was familiar with and had eaten in the past, which was the grilled chicken with rice & beans, and when I received it, I noticed the chicken was a bit dry and didnt have the sauce that they used to serve it over. So I asked the waiter for some of the broth that they used to serve it with and he gave me gravy.....like the ones you put on mashed potatoes. ...thats not the sauce they used to serve before. So I got through half of it (definitely not worth $21) and I gave the rest to my dog. Then came time for dessert & I was happy that they still had the cheese flan. So when I took the first taste.....another disappointment! ....it tasted like the boxed flan that you get at the store & mix with water....horrible. So that did it for me. Im officially done with this restaurant. I dont foresee a long future for this restaurant. So sad because it used to be good.

Amazing food and service! I took my gf for our anniversary, it was our first time here at this Don Coquis. The decor and ambience was very pleasant as was the hostess who seated us. Franklin was our waiter and was very attentive and nice. Its always a pleasure to have a server with a pleasant personality. I grew up in PR and so my standards for authentic Puerto Rican cuisine are pretty high. The food here was amaziiinnngggg. I ordered the appetizer sampler for 2 and the monfongo with shrimp, she ordered the ropa vieja with rice and beans. She loved it!! Rarely do I close my eyes anymore when biting into food. I forgot I was in white plains and felt more like i was in la Guancha. Oh and the drinks were on point. Nowadays every drink is watered down but not here, I almost had to ask Franklin to please tell the bartender to tone it down lol. I will definitely be coming back here again and recommend everyone to come here as well. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 for 2 reasons. 1. I asked when making the reservations for a booth but when we got there the hostess said there were no notes on the reservation for that request. No big deal. Our seating was still comfortable. 2. No valet parking! This was the first Don Coquis I been to that didnt have that. Again no big deal cause the food more than made up for that but still, would have been nice to not park my car especially in that area.

Food is something I take very seriously. My friends know me as the foodie queen or some say Im a little picky. I mostly cook at home and when I do go out, I enjoy going to great restaurants. Being Puerto Rican with Italian decent; has led me to appreciate all types of fusion inspired food. I went to Don Coqui a few weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised. The ambiance was amazing, the staff treated me with so much respect. I was offered water with lime and they brought me my drink while I waited (it was a tad busy that day). However, once I was seated, the service was prompt and exquisite. My favorite dish was the pernir with aroz con gandules and potato salad. They give huge portions for dinner and decent portions for lunch as well. The empanadas were so good and very fresh. This proved, that I can eat good homemade Latino food at a great restaurant. My friends had the Don Coqui Paella and it was the freshest and most savory Paella Ive had in a long time. The Don Coqui Appetizer sampler was huge! It came with everything! clams, empanadas (chicken, shrimp, and stewed beef), fried chicken chunks, fried pork chunks, and Calamari. I absolutely recommend this restaurant. Its a great atmosphere, with a great staff, and delicious Latino food.

Restaurant experience was terrible. I was supposed to meet my friends at the club side after they were done eating, but their food took over 2 hours to arrive!!! (no joke, no exaggeration) So, I end up waiting with them. While waiting, I ordered 1 beer and after 20 minutes I had to ask for it again... the waitress said that it was on its way... I ordered a Heineken, maybe it was stuck in customs. Finally, when my friends received their food, the waiters brought 2-3 plates every 15 minutes (our party was 14 people). The nightclub experience was not so bad. The DJ could have been better, but thats my personal taste. The issue is the kitchen... Its difficult to explain, but the waiters have to walk through the dance floor while carrying the food/plates... YES, the kitchen is located at the night club side and they have to constantly push people in order to get through. Restaurant: I dont recommend it. Also, the music is loud for a restaurant, but if you dont mind it (I dont), it should be OK. Night club: I would say, give it a try, you might enjoy it.
