unst-unst-unst-unst... pure pulsing, spiritual reverberations... no wonder they were all slaves to the sound. My first foray into this spot came on the heels of Electric Zoo, as part of their official afterparty. A premature purchase had me miss out on Gareth Emery at Marquee the same night... but no matter, Ive seen him once already, and Im sure I will have many more opportunities to catch another one of his sets. So instead of what would have likely been a very feel-sy type of trance night in the city, ended up being a techno rumble in Brooklyn. Output was made for techno (and no doubt the sound system allows this spot to be "made" for any and all kinds of electronic dance music... e.g. trance, trap, big room, moombahton, dubstep, base house, etc.). As a lover of the dark heavy base kicks courtesy of those old school techno-smiths... Outputs stellar job of hosting the E-Zoo afterparty gets massive daps from yours truly. While the main dance floor isnt the biggest, there is actually quite a bit of room on the upper level, and if you get a spot by the balcony railing, youre pretty much set. The road leading to the Panther Room/Exit from the main dance floor is a bit jarring first time through... but after any/all initial bits of confusion one may suffer, its just something one comes to terms with. Lastly, its been mentioned plenty, but no photography allowed (though one very sexy/stealthy lady was able to take a few snaps around the 2:45 a.m. mark, when the crowd was at its most crowded)... breach this mandate at your own risk. unst-unst-unst-unst... pure pulsing, spiritual reverberations... no wonder they were all slaves to the sound. Went to the club last night. Got out of the club for a second to smoke a cigarette. On the way back in, the bouncer doesnt let me back in. They tell me i got 86d. I didnt understand. I tried to let him explain to me what i did wrong, he didnt have an answer. After asking him many times, he told me that the bouncer inside saw me being violent on my way out. I tried to get the inside bouncer to talk to me, to explain what i did wrong, but he wouldnt get out to talk to me. I had left my jacket inside at the coat check and the card was with a girlfriend inside. Tried calling her, she wouldnt answer. Tried calling other friends they wouldnt answer. So i was stuck outside in the icy cold with just a t-shirt and no idea why i was not being let back in. I didnt have money to take a cab and leave nor did i have the keys of the appartment to leave (its my second day in ny and i am staying at my sisters). I stayed outside for approximately an hour and a half. Got so cold i actualy cried and punched the wall. Bled a bit from the bruise on my hand. Tried to convince the bouncer again to let me get my jacket, he told me he was gonna let me back in but just wanted to clean my hand first. So we went in together, he got a medical kit cleaned my hand but then told me he couldnt let me back in. Luckily my sister called me by that time and i met back with her and the others outside. This was the shittiest clubing experience i had in my life. If you want to 86 someone make sure he does something wrong first. I hope no one ever gets treated the way i got treated. Totaly unprofessional, at the limit inhuman. Will never set foot there again.

This is the only permanent venue that I know of right now that can replicate my experience of dancing at the you-know-where in Berlin. Except that I guess its exorbitant price points are made to deter anyone but the most dedicated techno music & party lovers.. And the rich. I guess I am fine with that, New York is in an odd state culturally with few options where you can really let go and enjoy yourself.. Unless you find an underground party. The night I went was $50 which is by far the most Ive ever paid for a one night club party. It was part of a 16 hr event that started in the day and when I went after midnight I was hoping there would be very reduced admission by that point. Sadly no. However, that was also one of the best parties Ive ever been to (though admittedly I was on a date there with another techno lover). Crowd was pretty friendly and low key. Not many spotlight huggers in sight which is in stark contrast to fame hungry New York nightlife. +Speaker system and volume is great! +Labyrinth of rooms (each with different music) and staircases is great! +Rooftop is spacious and unlike any other rooftop Ive seen in New York, plus with a great view. +Music until sun comes up = great! If this could operate like an indie movie theater where I can buy a yearly membership for a nicely discounted admission, I would love to consistently go and dance the night away. Good idea?

After many years of procrastinating I finally made it out to output for the first time. I went on a Thursday May 18, 2017 to see Dense and Pika. I got there around 12:45am and there were hardly any lines. I mistakenly entered through the panther room entrance at first. The panther room is a smaller bar thats part of output, they sometimes have no cover nights on the panther side. I wasnt super impressed with output, not a fan of the layout. The upper areas with seats were closed when I was there. So I had to stand all night. I was a little disappointed with dense and pika set, I was expecting a bit more from them but they werent bad overall. The sound system is good of course but the sound is a bit sharp on the ears and after a while I felt like I was damaging my ears, I had to take refuge in a padded area under the balcony. The bass was great though. I didnt expect output to be so small, it was pretty crowded not a lot of space to dance. The crowd was mostly dudes but it was a Thursday Im guessing on weekends theres a more mixed crowd. Overall I would return if there was someone that I really wanted to see otherwise Ill stick to going to cielo club, by the same owners in the meat packing district. I feel like the sound and bass there is a bit more crisp and more seating areas.
