Voelker Orth Museum, Bird Sanctuary and Victorian Garden is the preeminent German American museum in New York City. The is a New York City Landmark located in Murray Hill, Queens. In addition to preserving a German immigrant family’s 1890s home and garden, the Voelker Orth Museum engages audiences through the arts, education, nature, horticulture and local history by offering house tours, temporary exhibitions, concerts, lectures and workshops, cultural festivals, and family and school programs. Its mission is to "preserve and interpret the cultural and horticultural heritage of Flushing, Queens and adjacent communities to engage their ever-changing populations, through the experience of an immigrant family’s 1890s home." Voelker Orth Museum is home to the world-famous "Oktoberfest: Flushing Style," a fusion of the old and the new with loads of sauerkraut, kimchee, Bratwürste, and top-notch ale. This local festival offers an outdoor grill, German-American cuisine served along-side a sampling of Korean-American dishes -- uniting two culinary traditions that feature humble pickled cabbage.

Not only unique because of its history, but this neat little get away is like a botanical island in the heart of the concrete jungle of queens. Ask about their home made grape juice and honey. This place is perfect for wedding receptions, family dinners. Peotry readings. I even saw a play there. Check them out

This place is lovely. Staff is very knowledgeable and respectful. I uploaded pictures of our visit only to have them scattered through out and mixed in with the existing pictures. Google should organize the pics. If I could remove my pics I would.
