Ive been there about 3 times, my Bestfriend bought a hamster there. My first time was a okay experience.. Second time I noticed that there were a couple more employees, two of them stood out to me because of there behavior around the store. Giving people dirty looks.. And bad mouthing them, However the lady who was at the register was very kind and pleasant. Her kindness was what allowed me to return my third time.. My third visit was when I decided I will never return to this store ever again the so called manager is a disgusting guy.. I am very upset that I did not get his name but I am more than happy to describe him .. He is the FATTEST one there you cant miss him. I was leaving the store when I saw a sign that had the times and locations so I can get my dog vaccinated. I went back in to ask if they had any copies of the sheet .. And before I even finished my question he cut me off and said " no, dont you have a phone take a picture of it. " (with a attitude almost as big as his body) .. the very kind cashier saw the face I made of disbelief that this man would not allow me to finish my sentence .. She told him herself why is he cutting me off when he doesnt even know what Im a ask .. And hes like yea about the vaccination sign .. And I ignored him and continued to speak to her and she said in the nicest way that they do not and if id like I can take a picture of it ... I made sure I said how RUDE HE WAS. He sure is hell heard me.. She continued to say that he was joking . I DID NOT TAKE THAT AS A JOKE... I am a manager myself and I would NEVER speak to anyone in such a way. I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANY ONE TO GO TO THIS PETLAND!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY IN SUCH A PLACE WHERE GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE IS OBVIOUSLY NOT THERE FIRST PRIORITY. THOSE EMPLOYEES DO NOT DESERVE THERE JOB THEY ARE RUDE AND DISGUSTING.

The animals are always in tiny cages, the birds have NO toys in the cage, the parrots are in cages that are to small for them, but then the bars are to big so that they can fit there heads throw and get stuck. when i was talking about this with a friend one of the workers rudely interrupted me and was like they had toys but they destroy them with an attitude so i answered back yea, that is the point. it gives them something to do so they dont pluck and she answered back with we cant afford to just give them toys so they can break them so i said then dont have animals in the store you cant care for. the birds are WAY over priced, 100s of dollars more then you would pay if you just went to a breeder or a store that actually care for them. the lizards are also over priced, and always look to skinny. Was in there awhile ago looking at the hamsters and a worker came over to help and picked the hamsters up i was thinking about buying and DROPPED it on the floor TWICE!!! and then i was like okay dont pick it up again, and decided to get a different one because god only knows what damage that did to the poor thing so i picked a different one and went to pick it up myself but he insisted and DROPPED THAT ONE TOO!! so obviously i did not end up getting a hamster. i will never buy any animal from this store, dont even want to give them any of my money. i hope they close down

Ive been a costumer at this store for over five years the staff very knowledgeable never a problem till I went in today and had some questions on my salt water tank and the manager Jose whom usually handled my salt water questions was not there. They told me he was moved to another location so I called around looking for him and had no luck till I over heard someone saying while hanging up the phone on me that he was terminated from his job. Im not sure as to why when he is the most knowledgeable manager I have encountered. Petland in Riverdale now is not a great store I saw many dead fish the saltwater tanks didnt look up to par. New manager knows nothing about saltwater. Please bring Jose back.This location will loose alot of costumers without knowledgeable staff.

Ive rarely had any problems at Petland but its true, not everyone knows their stuff and i havent shopped there in the past month. (maybe theres a new employee?) There are a number of employees that practically specialize in pet care and know more than enough to satisfy my demands. This one guy will quiz you on what other type of fish you have to ensure new fish will get along relatively well. When our pets are ill, I check with them first and theyre quite helpful. Sometimes I have to call back later to talk with someone that knows more. But its a lot cheaper than an $80 vet for a $10 bird. I make purchases for birds, fish, a hamster and a bearded dragon and have done so for 10 years. Its the nearest store (~1 mile away) that has everything we need. I cant complain.

The most rudest staff Ive ever encountered. The FAT MAN, which is the manager, was completely rude. I had a few questions about Lizards and he was giving me half ass answers. Kept asking me if that was all and trying to rush me. His workers are rude as well and ghetto. Shouting to each other from across the store with no professional manners at all. Im frightened to even think if they take care of those poor animals well enough. Although they WERE the only place that sells things for lizards, rabbits, birds, etc. since Petco has opened on 238th St, I hope they get themselves shut down with that competition. I rather go shop at Petco where theres friendly and well educated staff.

i thnk they have a nice staff, and a decent selection of fish and dog food. my BIGGEST PROBLEM is the fresh water fish. I have bought fish 3 times here in the past 6 months and EVERYTIME my tank has become contaminated with ich. Do you know how annoying it is to have to completely drain and scrub down a 55 gallon tank once every 2 months??! and on top of this go back and spend another 100 bucks on fish... so honestly stay away from the fish here, go somewhere else. i suspect the barbs are the ones that have the ich because everytime i bought them my tank would get contaminated.

I bought a turtle there to bring home to our 7 year old (healthy) turtle. Within 5 days, our turtle was dead. I returned the new turtle and told them what happened. The assistant manager was so cold and rude about it. After explaining our pet DIED because of possible contamination, I was written off as if I were an idiot...just like that. He offered a refund and then refused the give it to me because I didnt have the receipt. It was like adding insult to injury. I hope they enjoy their whole 15 dollars...our pet is dead because of them.
