True Elvis Costello And The Attraction fans will be as disappointed as I was after seeing Elvis Costello perform at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, N.J. Tuesday night June 9,2009. What a waste of my time and of my familys it was to drive down to Red Bank expecting to see and hear the tunes of the 70s being played that made Elvis Costello famous. Not one of those tunes such as Allison, Pump It Up, Radio Radio, Peace Love and Understanding,Cant Stand Up For Falling Down,Olivers Army, Clubland or Accidents Will Happen did he play. These are the songs that put him on the charts in the late 70s that were very popular songs on the college music scene back in the day. Instead what we witnessed was the complete oposite of what we expected. Elvis Costello and his new Hillbilly Band are all about country music now and I am not into Country Music. Well let me just say I am not into Country Music coming from once early Punk Rocker Elvis Costello and I do not recommend anyone go to see Elvis Costello today for this type of music. He seemed to have abandoned his roots as fans shouted out to him between sets to play the popular songs of his past many as mentioned above yet it went in one ear and out the other. It just seemed like he could care less of what the fans wanted to hear. Again what a disappointment and what a waste of my hard earned money in these tuff economic times. I would of been better off staying home and popping in my CD of The Very Best Of Elvis Costello And The Attractions. At least then I would not of been disappointed as I was when watching and listening to Elvis Costello And The Sugar Canes Tuesday Night June 9,2009. Other then that the Count Basie Threatre is a great place for a concert I feel.

I am a hard working but not well off individual who saved up a lot of money to see one of my favorite singers of all time at the Count Basie Theatre. I arrived in Red Bank early to pick up my ticket and went inside to see my seat. I then asked the doorman how much time I had until the show started and he told me I still had 45 minutes before showtime so I told him I was going to go to a bar a few blocks away to have a drink. I was so excited. Upon my return I was denied entry into the theatre because he said he did not know how much I had had to drink (in aprox 30 min.). The only thing I could think was that he discriminated because he could tell that I was not affluent like so many others in that area and of course, he had already obtained my payment (I had already been admitted). Thank you Count Basie Theatre for continuing a mode of feudal serfdom which seems to prevail in this area, fully robbing me, and your continuing cry of "please help the theatre." This company should be ashamed of themselves. --The person I went to see was Cyndi Lauper, it would be ironic if she had sung "Money Changes Everything" , because apparently here it really does!!

I went to see Brian Wilson tonight (9/21/16) and thought the theater was beautiful. It has an old school look, smell and feel which is perfect in this nice area of Red Bank. However that fond feel came to a screeching halt once the music started. The bass was so strong I couldnt hear anything else clearly. I mean my chest was thumping from the drummers base pedal being overly amplified. Im good with tremendously loud base as long as all the instruments and vocals are just as loud. I made a mistake by thinking the audio for this show in particular would be decent. I felt like I was 19 again at a Metallica show at Giants Stadium. But I wasnt. I was in The Count Basie attempting to hear Brian Wilson play "Pet Sounds" and it sounded very poor throughout the night. Concrete walls dont do much for sound dampening as well.

The Count Basie Theatre is MY HOME AWAY FROM HOME!! It is a cozy venue with great views of the stage from any seat. I have seen countless performances there, all have been amazing! The talent that comes to the theatre are all top notch. The Count Basie Theatres "House Band" Bob Bandieras Jersey Shore Rock And Soul Revue is always something I always come to see, as well as Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes every New Years Eve show. The Fab Faux show is awesome every year too, as are all the many big names that come to the theatre. The beautiful restoration of the interior is breathtaking! If you ever see a singer, band or comedian advertised as playing at "The Basie", do not hesitate about going. It will be worth the visit, I promise! It truly is the best place to go for an evening of fun and entertainment!

Its a smaller theater so it only takes a few minutes to get in an and out even with a full audience. Decently maintained, but the seats are really smaller...theyre tight like coach class in a plane. The area is safe even at night with the police station right across the street. There are a couple of pricier restaurants right around the corner and two dozen more choices within a five minute walk. The train station is a five minute walk. Some street parking is available and theres a town lot a block away...most spots are metered up to 6 pm, but free after that. Theres also a town garage two blocks away with no meters (next to the restaurant, Pazzo).

Historic is the key word here. To think about all of the names of celebs that crossed thru these doors would be mind boggling. According to there website, Tony Bennett has called it, “My favorite place.” Art Garfunkel said, “This hall is to a singer what Steinway is to a pianist.” Lyle Lovett said, “This is one of the nicest sounding rooms in the whole United States of America.” I havent been there in a few years, but I am sure little has changed. If you would like to shop a lovely town and then catch a show, the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank is a good choice. Among other things, this location is in the National Register of Historic Places.

No concern for Kids !!!!!!! 1/8/2017. Way too dangerous to drive. First show for our daughter @5:30. "Daniel Tiger" Not happy at all ! 3 tickets that cost us about $175. We live in Jackson which is about 40 minutes to Red Bank. It would have took us over an hour and 20 minutes to get there considering 35 mph with 6 inches of snow. The roads are not plowed and not driveable in a 4x4 for a 5:30 show. Really bad business practice and no concern for child safety. #countbasietheater #danieltigerlive Never canceled because they had a 2:30 show running before the next line up @ 5:30 $$$$. Customer service is a puppet act.

Last nights performance of 100 Years of Sinatra was a huge disappointment. My husband bought tickets for this show many months ago to celebrate my birthday. Neither one of us enjoyed the first half of the show. There was a "comedian" who spent 55 minutes perpetuating the negative Italian American stereotype. He had a toilet mouth. We went to hear the songs of Frank Sinatra. We ended up walking out. In the past we went to Count Basie on Sinatras birthday to hear the music. It was classy. We wont be returning unless we know ahead of time what we are paying for ...
