Our experience here was not good at all. We purchased tickets for a show, at a total of $50. When we got there, we were informed that it was a full house so we would be seated with other people. They then brought us to a four seat table upstairs, with another couple. It was incredibly awkward and not what we had paid good money for. We were hoping for a romantic night of jazz and wine and instead were jammed into a small table with complete strangers. We went to the front and asked for a different table and were told there was nothing they could do. They had even sold tickets for standing room, so our only option was to sit with another, very chatty, couple. We left without seeing the show and will not return. This is dishonest and borderline false advertising. There are plenty of other places in MPLS to see great jazz, dont waste your time here.

This is an amazing venue for live music, and the food was decent (always like bearnaise for my fries), but the positives end there. The bar staff was clearly incompetent and overwhelmed. They move slowly and ineffeciently even when there are people waiting at the bar. (took me ten minutes to even get noticed; no exaggeration). Categorizing the door staff as brusque would be kind, and the table service, while not unkind, seemed to have difficulties with pacing making us feel alternately rushed and then overlooked. I can completely understand there are difficulties with serving in a venue of this sort, but I feel like they could be doing much better. The one high point to the service was the management who was incredibly accommodating in looking for my dates misplaced sweater, and very helpful when we arrived to pick it back up.

Was downtown for a large work conference all week. Stopped in for lunch on a Wednesday with two colleagues. We got a table immediately even though other area restaurants were very busy. Our waiter seemed snooty though the food was good. When my colleague asked for a refill on her water he refused saying, no, only if she bought a glass of wine. She laughed awkwardly saying she wasnt and guess that meant he wouldnt bring her water. He left with our table water bottle. Several long minutes went by. I was interested in a refill in my drink but we could never get our servers attention to come over. We finished eating and needed to return to our conference. I finally flagged down our server and told him we wanted our check since he was done serving us. He acted surprised. Will not go to again or recommend for a lunch date ever.

Weve been to The Dakota many times. Upon arriving, we encountered a very rude young lady at "will call" who said wed been moved to another table, without any real explanation. She wanted nothing else to do with us. It wasnt busy, so not sure why the need to herd us in. Once seated upstairs, Ron could not have been more accommodating. Just the exact opposite of the "will call" crab. The service as usual was very good. When the bill came, it was one tab, even though there were three parties at one table. Our server never asked if we wanted it split, and didnt come back for a long time, so one party had to pay all. Minor to many, but somewhat annoying. CJ Chenier was great, which was the real reason for our visit.

We love the Dakota. Great music, and more variety than they get credit for. The menu is great, too though not cheap - but youre not required to order anything if you dont want as long as youve paid cover. If you happen to have enough people to book a full table that can be advantageous but sharing a table isnt bad either as they are plenty large. I recommend parking next door in the ramp that is underneath the USBank building (same block as the Target store). Then you have an easy skyway connection to Dakota that never requires you to go outside. We usually park for less than $20, sometimes under $10 depending on time of day and day of the week.

We went here for a Christmas concert in December. Although we really enjoyed the concert, the service was terrible. After we first sat down, it took the server about 20 minutes to stop by for our drink order and about another 15 minutes for him to bring our drinks. After our first round, he never came back to take another order. We ended up going up to the bartender to get a second order of drinks. We were going to order appetizers, but we could not find our server. The next time we saw him was after last call when he handed us our bill. My suggestion is enjoy the concert, expect poor beverage service, and forget about ordering food.

We didnt stay for the show, but judging from the layout, acoustics, and lineup schedule, I would guess this is their strongest suit. Service was fine...timing a little off, considering our mains were lukewarm. But my gripe is the caliber of food. While things were good, they werent great. The depth of their menu was shallow. The cheese plate should be revamped to reflect the price point, earthy mushrooms shouldnt accompany an otherwise light, rich scallops dish, and artisinal bread should be served with oil/herbs. The menu and execution doesnt compete with other restaurants nearby.

Ive been here quite a few times 5 or 6. Food is phenomenal, service is great, shows are intimate and tasteful. The overwhelming problem I have with the Dakota is the seating. Ive tried everything to get a decent private table here to no avail. Everytime we have had to share a tiny table with two other people that we didnt know making it a very uncomfortable and unromantic evening. I dont recommend this place unless you really want to see the show and then Id recommend eating elsewhere and sitting at the bar for the show. Its a great view and a lot better experience in my eyes.

It is extremely expensive. I have never ate such a small portion of streak for $30. Just to give you an idea: 2.5 oz of veal is $20. On special 8oz of steak is $30. Duck plate had 4 tiny slices ($25) However presentation of food was great and it tasted delicious. Drinks are also very overpriced. Service is very slow but patient, but whats the rush if you are listening to music. But music and atmosphere was amazing!! So my recommendation if you are on the budget is to come there not hungry. Get a drink and desert and enjoy great music.

Worst costumer service ever.Starting with a really cheap website that is only fast to charge the money of the purchase but gave me two different seats without a single warning or seat chart explanation...Later at the place, will call staff did not try even the minimum to help out the costumer(maybe with a slight smell of racism because my accent??,maybe) and the only great idea was to recommend stay stand up like the tickets were free... Anyhow...good luck to you next time you wanna go there...

I would give it 5 stars for atmosphere and the jazz show. And 1 for service and food prices. I ordered several rum and cokes and then after being rummed out simply asked for a coke and was charged an addition 3 dollars. Though it was only 3 dollars the principle of the matter bothered me. Typically after ordering that many rum and cokes the last coke is free. Anyway, service was not good. Portions were miniature and the waiter didnt seem happy to be there.
