Last minute decision to treat myself to dinner out. Husband was at work, my girlfriends were already busy with other stuff. Decided that I would finally check out Crooners because it was only a few blocks down from our house and, after reviewing their menu online, food sounded enticing. My first impression walking in - warm, welcoming, laid back atmosphere. I was very pleased with the table that the host chose to seat me at. I was able to see the whole layout of the lounge and also view Moore Lake. Music piped in was jazzy - Frank Sinatra type songs. LOVED!!!! Even if you do not enjoy that type of music, it is subliminal enough that you wouldnt notice. However, it does increase the experience of what original supper club atmospheres were like. The staff is amazing. From the greeting of the host who seated me to my server that took my order. I felt very welcomed and catered to. Above expectations. And from my observations of the room, each guest received the same treatment. Heather, my server, had the same warm, welcoming, laid back attitude that the room exuded. Very knowledgeable of the menu and drink offerings. Matthew seemed to appear out of nowhere but ensured that each guest was attended to - enhancing the servers skills. The manager on staff, Margarite (sic), also seemed to appear from nowhere ensuring all were enjoying their experience. I believe the atmosphere of Crooners and their philosophy on service to the public led to my experience. Non-intrusive but attentive. Very refreshing. My review of the food and price. First glance of the menu, yes it may appear pricey. My suggestion, the menu is online, review it. If you think it is too pricey, do not go - however, you will miss out on experiencing some of the finest food served in Fridley which is sadly lacking. I treated myself to the Prime Rib special that included garlic mashed potatoes and green beans (I substituted the green beans with a garden salad). I also added the lobster tail. The reason I am giving a rating of 4 stars and not five is because of certain things regarding my dinner. Was very impressed that my garden salad was a dish of mixed greens (not the normal cheap iceberg lettuce you receive). Main course.....wasnt impressed with the garlic mashed potatoes - flavoring was great but the potatoes themselves seemed overcooked, over whipped, pasty....mashed potatoes should be light and fluffy as well as flavorful....maybe add more whipping cream and butter. The lobster tail....again very tasteful but was a little difficult to remove from the shell. At first, I was a little confused that there was not a lemon slice accompanying the lobster. Then I dipped my lobster in the butter accompaniment...mmmmm, yum, there is the lemon taste....very good. Now to the star of the dish....the prime rib. Melt in your mouth....cut with a butter knife....perfectly seasoned. I had to control myself from my doing my normal enjoying this food dance. The normal accompaniment for prime rib is horseradish and au jus. Very good! Not normal horseradish but a creamy horseradish sauce - not overly powering - just yummy. The au jus? Again, yum! A mixture of beef juice, beef stock, and rosemary. I am not sure which I preferred more. I enjoyed my experience and the food so much that I decided to order the walleye dinner to go for my husband to have when he finally gets home from work. My way of enticing him to take me to Crooners for a date. :-)

This venue has undergone numerous iterations over the years, so I was eager to try it out last Friday. It looks great, very spacious with numerous rooms that make it feel intimate. The patio, with a view of the lake, will be great come summer. Some overall thoughts... The service was spot-on. Super-friendly and never far away when you needed a new drink or something else. Food came out quick and no mistakes. The owner even stopped by to introduce herself and check on things. Thank you. They have a bar in a separate area with live music. It was big enough that you could sit up close and get into it if you wanted or sit in the back and enjoy the music while still enjoying the company and conversation of friends. I wish more venues were like that. The food and cocktails werent bad, they were just really overpriced for what you got. I had the walleye, which was a tiny thin cut, with some carrots and wild rice. There was nothing wrong with it, just that it was $22. For that Id expect a little larger serving or some more involved or imaginative preparation or presentation. Likewise, the cocktails were rail ingredients in pretty standard recipes, but they were charging around $10 for them. For that price you can get top-notch ingredients in inventive cocktails at Tattersall Distillery. It felt like you were getting a bit ripped-off at the end. Again, nothing was awful, just way overpriced. We may come back for some music and beers, but will likely skip food and cocktails for that reason. Give a go, though, and see what you think!

My friend and I came to Crooners as a couple of music enthusiasts, drawn here by the Scottie Miller Band. We were seated immediately, just minutes before the music started, and not due to a shortage of other music enthusiasts. Our server Amanda recommended several of the house cocktails, so we each tried one of the house old fashioneds (the specific name is escaping me, but brandy is a key ingredient.) It was just how Amanda described, just a little bit sweeter than your average old fashioned, and it was perfect! When dinner arrived, I was delighted by the flakey crust of the chicken pot pie I had ordered. Once again, it was perfection all throughout the dish. If youre looking for food and beverages unmatched by any other friendly local establishment, accompanied by some of the most exciting and engaging live music, youll definitely want to check out Crooners!

As a thank you to my staff for an amazing year, I had picked Crooners for our 1st annual Christmas Party. My assistant called to make the reservations for 10 people. The staff was disorganized from the start. Messing up our reservations, to seating us in a way that no one could speak to each other. The server was terrible. She came by once all evening to see if we wanted drinks. 3 of the 10 of us had issues with our food. Ie. my fillet was cut in half and wasnt a fillet. As I was paying for staff, our bill should and could have been over $600 easily for dinner and drinks. Guess the $400 I dropped wasnt enough for even OK service. I did not want to leave this review and had tried calling the manager that said she would send vouchers. That didnt happen either. Disappointed that we were not given the same service as all the other diners that were there.

I finally stopped in for dinner with my family. We ate off the main menu. I went with the Roast Breast of Boutique Farms Chicken. Very good. The chicken was moist and flavorful. The bread pudding is dressing in a triangle shape and it was a perfect match with the butterscotch vegetables and sauce. Really a surprise. Others at the table had the burger, crab cakes, and blue cheese fries. My wife had the Herb Roasted Chicken Pot Pie. She said it was delicious with an awesome flaky crust. She mentioned it could have had a little more filling in it, but that said, she still took a portion of it home in a doggie bag. Atmosphere was relaxed (Sunday night), nice modern music that my teenagers enjoyed that you could hear, but it didnt interfere with conversation. The staff was efficient and friendly. Im looking forward to going back.
