I have always enjoyed visiting Shooting Star. Sometimes I win; sometime not, but thats gambling. Every month I get an email with free money to entice me to come and play, a coupon for a free 2 night stay and a $10-$15 coupon for a meal regardless of which restaurant I choose. True they are not the top of the line room but they are clean and free. Staff even found a wheelchair for my friend. She had crutches but its a big place to hobble around on crutches. They even allow me to upgrade if I want to pay the difference. Called and reserved the room a week in advance, who ever took the call was pleasant and eager to have us come and stay. I thought for sure we would be restricted to a week day, surprisingly we got a weekend reservation. Must be some hidden fees? Nope checked out owing nothing. Only stayed in the hotel once but the staff was great and only took a few minutes to check in. Most of theses go unused because its a long drive but still worth the trip when I do go. We have Dakota Magic Casino 18 miles from home and I refuse to spend a single dime there. Might as well mail them the money and save gas and time. At least I have a chance at Shooting Star!***** I dont understand why so many people have complaints. Weve been there several times (just didnt stay overnight every time) and havent experienced any of the issues others have had. Its okay if they dont visit again because that leaves more chance for me to win.

Pubic Hairs in tub, hair on pillow. Room NOT CLEANED, We checked in around 5 or 6pm, then quickly went to a nearby event. Got back 10ish. I discovered little black curly hairs (!!) in the tub, then we saw food and other crumbs all over the carpet. Curious, we pulled back the blanket, and, more hair!! Room was obviously not cleaned, they had just turned the blankets back. Called for explanation, the desk clerks said, "That happens." (As if its a common occurance) I talked to casino mgr, she sent a housekeeper to fix it (Older guy, nice, overworked, we actually did most of it ourselves) but flat refused to refund ANY amount, nothing, claimed I shouldve told them at checkin. When I explained our attending an event, she made it clear she didnt trust me, seemed bored with the conversation. Unbelievable. Unfortunately this is the only hotel for many miles around those parts. If you must stay here, check room carefully immediately on checkin, dont take their word for anything till its done. Better to stay in Moorhead or Grand Forks or Detroit Lakes. In 50 years Ive never been this insulted or displeased with a hotel.

Decided to turn in early and took a shower and got ready for bed. Turned the beds down to dirty sheets on both beds. Started calling to get clean sheets at 10:45, finally got them changed around 12:30 and that was after getting dressed and going down to the front desk. My phone calls fell on deaf ears. Upon checkout the manager gave me a whopping $10 off. Casino was tight but not my complaint. Huge smoking area but small non smoking. In this day and age, more people are non smokers than smokers and they need to start catering to us non smokers as well. Did not eat at "Smoke" after looking at the overpriced menu. Miss the old restaurant that was there. Ate at the buffet and everything was empty. Very slow at getting them filled. Had to keep going back to see if they filled anything. Food was average at best. The young woman in the gift shop was great, very friendly and helpful. Also, the woman who did finally bring us sheets was very nice. She was very frustrated as we were not the only room she had to bring clean sheets to. Seems there is a big problem with the housekeeping staff.

Worst hotel Ive ever stayed at. Casino is average, but the hotel experience will flow over and affect the casino experience, and my review as well. The last three times Ive stayed there, Ive had to call security on the "neighbors" twice and had them called on me once. The walls are sooooo thin, I can barely hear myself think cause of all the noise. Seriously, you can hear people right next door simply talk (or cough) through the walls. Toilets are purposely weakened for the fact the flush might wake someone up, and dont even think about taking a shower after a night on the floor. Youll get a noise complaint (ITS SO FREAKING LOUD)! Im 36 years old and havent had a complaint on me in a hotel since I was 17. In conclusion... Work on your rooms Shooting Star. Forget the big names and your "amazing" restaurant and bar. Make the experience more enjoyable through the atmosphere instead of convincing people its the "cool" place to be. It will truly work wonders for your establishment.

apparently this casino does not want my repeat business. while visiting casino floor tried slots after sticking three bills in machine only two registered upon finding a slot manager to find problem, I watched scan and told only two bills entered slot. I asked if they would open door to check if bill jammed in box. they laughed at me and walked away, not happy. Was given coupons for hotel , told no room available this went on for several months. what good are coupons if you cant use them. Was given comp. money to play, told can not use in selected machines, why ? When I was using in their roulette machine they made that machine not usable for comp dollars. when I asked why they told me I was cheating them. After their new card program all comps drooped significantly. New slogan should be WHO WANTS LESS.. Thanks for listening Keenan Reese After two and a half years still getting a bill with no itemization of the charges, and no one I can talk to to get the matter resolved.

This Casino will NEVER get my business again. Every time we have visitied this Casino, the check in time, takes a long time. Approxiamtely 20 people in line this time and they had three employees checking people in. There were another two employees, behind the counter and they were looking at their computer and not even worried that there were so many people in line. THEN one employee gets up and walks away from checking people in. No one took her place, so we are down to two employees and still a long line of people checking in. Took half hour to check in. Room was overpriced for what we got. Then when playing slots on the floor, not once did a cocktail server come around and serve drinks. Had to go to the bar and get a drink, get to the bar and it takes a long time to be served there. The only one serving drinks on the floor, was this very nice man that was serving, Ice Cold Beer. I dont drink beer. Very bad experience. Now I know why I go to other Casinos.

It really does smell. The sweet cologne that is piped in does nothing to mask the smell. The linens in our room were dirty. Fire alarms went off and shut down our hallway. Windows were blocked with screws and we couldnt open them. The food we had (reception) was OK. There us no information booklet on the hotel or spa. There is lots that is not good here. BUT... every person that we ran across that worked there was very nice. That helped make up for the rocky start. The reception we attended was very nice. Staff was fun and accommodating EVEN with fire alarm going off. ... Again. Management, spend some money on commercial air purifiers... Train Brice (?) at the front desk. A cleaner atmosphere and you would have a +++
