The Hinckley casino is going downhill fast. We stayed overnight on Sunday November 6th. My husband an I have been coming here for the last 10 years and it seems like the employees just dont care anymore. 1. We got there early to check in and were told our room probably wouldnt be ready until 1600 hours. 2. At the Grand Grill while we were waiting for our room we were sitting at the bar and I noticed the lights hanging down at the bar were FILTHY. I ran my finger across one and it left a track where I touched from wiping off the dust and dirt. As I was doing this one of the wait staff said, "Dont touch those, they are really expensive." I replied that I was just noticing how filthy they are and she said, "Yah, they are pretty dirty" and walked away. 3. We paid extra for a Suite on the top floor and while I liked the view and the size of the room, everything was outdated. The sofa in the room was no better than a goodwill sofa, the cushions were ridiculous, thats all i can say. Outdated everything.... 3, At about 1930 hours we came off of the elevators from the hotel tower in the main casino and the security guard was giving everybody a hard time. She was a female in her 20s with short hair. She seemed to enjoy telling everybody what to do, even telling a senior citizen couple walking from the casino floor going back to their rooms that, "Just so you know you cant came back down with those cups." The old lady looked at her like she was crazy. 4. We had dinner at the Winds steakhouse which normally has awesome food and were really disappointed. When I walked in I said "Hello" to the hostess at the front podium and she looked at me and just looked down for a table and then handed some menus to our waitress to sit us. We ordered crab cakes, stuffed mushrooms calamari and chicken Marsala. The crab cakes were terrible, tasted like I put a mouthful of glue and playdoh in my mouth. Sure didnt taste any crab. The mushrooms were flavorless and the filling was pasty. The calamari was not cooked properly and was rubbery but the marinara was good. And the Marsala was ok but didnt have a Marsala flavor at all. Overall pretty crappy stay, not to mention all the construction going on like no pool or buffet. I am not normally a negative person but its just sad to see this place fall so far from where it used to be. Employees just seem to not care. I want the place to be better. My husband has been coming here since it opened in the 1990s and is very disappointed as well. The one positive experience was the breakfast/morning waitstaff and host staff at the Grand Grill. They are always very competent, professional and friendly so hats off to them.

I arrived mid-afternoon for my girl friends parents anniversary and was given a room that was smoking. It smelled like crap. So like anyone else I was upset and went down to the desk and asked for a different room. They said, "No." I stated that I had problems breathing and wouldnt be able to sleep in the room. They didnt care, Sooo I asked for my money back so that I could travel back to Hudson (2 1/2 hours back) and forget the whole gambling and eating thing. They basically told me to go Eff myself at the desk. The policy that they have adopted they told me was, "that it was the only room left when I booked it (they did say that)", and that they stated that "it was a smoking room (they did not) at time of the reservation." As a result "NO REFUNDS," they stated. Ok, so I was hungry after all this so I went down to get the buffet, NOPE. Im sorry Sir, we closed the buffet ended 8 minutes ago. Its 8:38 I said!!! What buffet at a casino ends at 8:30? I was turned away with the other DOZENS of other folks. OK, now its getting ridiculous I thought, so when things get ridiculous I go have a drink at the bar and try not to let it get to me. At the bar, I noticed some employees talking to each other about someone (patron) wanting ice and they LAUGHED unto how they didnt give it to them. Five seconds later I watched the same bartender women pour a two count of liquor from the gun into someones drink and charge them full amount. Thank God I was drinking beer I thought. I left the bar and went to the cafe. No forks, 10 minute wait for my food... people with nasty attitudes, my girlfriends food was cold. Ughh, so I went to swipe my card and gambled a little ( I won $100) and talked to laddies at the card desk. They told me that they ran out of the cards they were supposed to give out and that the Silver card was the one I was getting. When I was there I asked about their promotional give-a-ways... they told me that I could only enter into most of them if I got their mailer previously. Since they never sent me their mailer how could I enter? (I was here before I thought and signed up for a card) Do not stay here. I am in the room right now wishing that I wasnt too tired and able to drive home...

“A Smokers Paradise or Must Love Cigarette Smoke.” The first thing youll notice walking into the hotel lobby is the smell of cigarette smoke, well thats an understatement, and the hotel lobby is a non smoking area! After we settle into our rooms and made it down to the casino, aye carumba, you better like cigarette smoke. Within minutes of making my way onto the casino gaming floor, I was overwhelmed by the cigarette smell and cigarette smoke - you could feel yourself breathing it in and feel the sting in your eyes. I left the gaming floor and made my way up to my non smoking hotel room, well it may as well have been a smoking room ,as all I could smell for the rest of the evening was the smell of cigarette smoke...the smoke smell was saturated into my clothing. Anyways, I guess the review should be about the hotel room, the room is fine, just a basic room, very clean room, nothing fancy or extravagant, but it did have a small fridge and microwave, which were nice to have. Also, the hotel staff seemed friendly enough. One complaint, was that I needed a luggage trolley for our luggage, but the hotel would not accommodate my request unless I took on the services of I used their staff to operate the luggage cart. One last note, the last time I was in Hinckley I stay across the street at the Grand Hinckley Inn. The thing I remember about staying there was the free continental breakfast that one could grab in the morning...which wasnt offered here at the casino hotel. At the end of the trip, I could not wait to get home and wash all the smokey smell out of my clothing! Next time though, Im heading to Duluth or Minneapolis and flying to Las Vegas!

A couple weeks ago I arranged for my parents to stay at the Grand Casino in Hinckley. They were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. In addition to a hotel room, I had arranged for them to dine at the Winds Steakhouse located at the Grand Casino in Hinckley. Days prior to their arrival, I had talked to Lisa (Manager of the Winds) and explained the poor health of my parents and the low likelihood of them ever seeing a 51st anniversary. My father is actually terminally ill with a heart capacity of 20% remaining. I asked Lisa if she and her staff could make it special by simply congratulating them and making them feel special. The following day I asked my parents how they liked their dinner and they both couldn’t say enough positive things about their meal and how delicious the food was. After saying that, they both started saying how they were greeted at the door with a congratulations on 50 years of marriage as well as while they were seated at their table. My father said “we were treated like celebrities”. I also know that they have told many friends about their dining experience and it is clearly a memory they will cherish for quite some time. Currently my father is back in the hospital and things look rather grim, but I knew he had a goal of seeing his 50th anniversary and Lisa and her staff made it extra special. I cannot thank these people enough for what they did for my parents. It’s important for me to tell everyone I can what special people are employed at the Winds Steakhouse and to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. Duane Olson
