Went here in 2011 with my dad and mom. Since Im a railfan, this is a great railroad place Ive been too so far. The people that volunteered and worked there were really nice to me and my family and they gave us a tour in the museum and in the roundhouse workshop were 1225 was. 1225 was still out of service around that time because of her overhaul and rebuild, even tough she wasnt running that day when I went, I was still able to see her in the workshops and get great pictures of her during her rebuild. As of that, they also gave me free pictures of 1225 in the 1940s and 1990s too keep as a souvenir. We also got to ride on the little miniature train they had in the yard when Kevin Mayer brought it out. I was so happy I got to bring them home with me so I can remember this place forever and for seeing my favorite steam locomotive, 1225.

The experience was fun for our grandchildren to ride the train and see the steam engine up close. All of the people involved from the ticket takers, conductors, and people of Ashley were warm, friendly and very helpful. The disappointment for me was the town of Ashley. These people are trying very hard but the atmosphere of the town just doesnt lend itself to the feeling of Santas workshop and the North Pole. I kept thinking the atmosphere of the town of Frankenmuth would have been more fun. At the least the decorations could be upgraded some and the food improved. We ate at the Soup Kitchen and the hot dogs were shriveled and overcooked. Best part is the train ride.

The best part was the train ride. Ashley was pretty but it was so crowded and the lines so long that my kids didnt have time to even see Santa or go into that center at all. I would suggest in the future that it be a little more organized in Ashley so that the Polar Express passengers can enjoy the whole thing. My children also didnt have time to make any crafts, get their faces painted or anything... Bring lots of money with you as everything is expensive but we really enjoyed our family day out and the reindeer were awesome.

i love chasing it , but our ride was terrible- i bought my tickets 5 months in advance , means nothing , seating is first come first serve- i sat in a storeroom with my son and the cars owner ,and the restroom next to the storeroom had a problem so the urine stench , well lets just say that was that! !

It was a cool place to visit! The tour guide was very informative and was able to answer ever question I threw at him. He knows his stuff when it comes to trains! The lady at the front desk was a hoot! Me and the fam really enjoyed ourselves!

This review is for the north pole express. Lots of waiting around. Not worth the money.
