I would give this place a zero star if I could, they close at 7:15 during artprize which is way too early during a popular event like this especially for locals who work all day, artprize needs to step it up and do what works for the people that want to see the art and vote and make it what it is. Also they expected me to leave my backpack at the entrance, ummmmm excuse me?? U expect me to leave my personal valuables unattended by some random person while there are tons of people around yes I dont think so Im keeping my stuff with me. Also if u are in here when they close all of the grumpy security people that hover over u and stare u down will walk around and clap their hands telling u to leave. There are several reasons, but I have had poor experiences with artprize and their staff including the permanent venue workers like this place and I think artprize needs to work on improving their very very poor costumer service.!!!!

It was best said by a previous user rating. "Ill give a generous two stars to this sparsely stocked art museum only because I enjoyed the local Michigan artist exhibit. Seriously, as we walked around we wondered when we were gonna get to the art only to realize that the few pictures scattered around the wall is what we paid $8 per person to see. The building is pretty large and were shocked to see how little art there was here! Maybe Im spoiled from the Detroit Institute of Arts because its LOADED with various forms of art that takes hours to enjoy and is free to residents of the tri-county area so to pay so much for so little was disappointing. I had to convince myself that I was helping local artists to justify the money. We checked out everything here i about an hour. We wont go back!"

Felt like me and my wife were being judged from the moment we got here. Also feel like its a huge building with plenty of empty space. Doesnt seem like they have a whole lot to offer except hype. If your an art fanatic, I guess its worth a visit, but dont expect anything to blow your hair back. I most likely will not be returning. Side note- the dividers in the bathroom between urinals are almost falling off the walls, its a safety hazard. plastic anchors were not very well thought out. I suggest that management be more inviting of people that may not be from the "art croud". Maybe even make it more of an educational experience for people to help them understand the art, and therefor appreciate it.

To echo what the more critical reviewers have said, this museum is quite large but the art is sparse. They used most of the space as "open space", gift shop, and private office space. The staff is generally unfriendly and unwelcoming. The most bizarre feature of the museum is the "Education Center". This space screams they are not interested in the future artists of the world as you access this area through a bowels type stairwell and it is quite a bit more modest and dungeon-like than the rest of the museum. No parking here except for the staffs private garage (again, designed staff-first not visitor-first).

I didnt appreciate being followed around the whole museum from the bottom level to the top level. I was with a group of very well behaved homeschool students and parents who just finished taking a clay and pottery class and went to see the pottery exhibit. We kept being told not to touch things (even though nobody was touching anything) we all know how to act in a museum. Been to plenty museums across the country and never experienced the way we were treated in our own hometown. Guess we have to go out of town to have an art experience.

I highly recommend buying a Family Membership, its affordable and has tremendous value because of all the events and exhibits. Visit the educational center on Saturday from 10AM - 3PM for Saturday All Day with the Arts. SADWA is a wonderful interactive experience for all ages. The staff and volunteers are phenomenal!

This is a decent small art museum. With GRs emphasis on Art in recent years, I expected to see a large selection of styles, but it was more focused on historical gifts to the space than the winners or entries at the Art Prize event everyone keeps taking about.

I really appreciate the work the museum does with the community. They have a room for creating art and offer a lot to schools. The museum itself is pretty meh. It seems rather stark and much of the art is hard to appreciate without more explanation.

So glad to have this place in our town. Great artwork in a great space. The building alone is inspiring. They have great summer events featuring bands, food trucks, and activities for the kids. This is what helps make GR so fun to live in.

The Grand Rapids Art Museum - GRAM is located on the NE corner of Rosa Parks Circle. They are a venue for Art Prize every year and our local Wood8 station faces the park on the ground floor. Yes it is visible from the Amway Grand hotel.

This place is always cool and inspiring. I love going here to view the various collections. They change regularly which is nice and they also provide special events. Its a nice way to spend a few hours wandering between the exhibits.

Easy to navigate. Friendly service and great items at the gift shop. Dont get to close to the art and try to read it because the staff with give you a warning. Overall, we had a good time. Fyi...Tuesdays are free!!

Went while it was free during Festival Of The Arts. It was a nice way to cool down and enjoy the museum. Its always a delight to browse their collections. Its a nice stop for even the most amateur of art enthusiasts.

Nicely done for a smaller museum. Several works of note in the collection. I would have liked to see more of the past Art Prize winners. Rube Goldberg exhibit was a bit tedious and not as fun as expected.

Free entry on Tuesdays makes it easy to enjoy some amazing artwork, tastefully curated for the masses in a way that provides access to some really cool, and rather insightful works of art.

The Saturday All Day with the Arts program is phenomenal. Great educators in a wonderful facility. Fun to do after ice skating, too. Two thumbs up!! Good for toddlers on up.
