Aw, remember when all the movies here were only a buck? Remember how awesome that was? I caught Alien: Resurrection aka the most fun sequel of all sequels here and had a blast. Remember that scene with the freak alien and the hole? Oh man! SIgourney Weaver dunked a basketball as well! Man, what an awesome movie. But I digress, this place is still pretty sweet, and a great choice when youre not in the mood for hitting up the mass market theater. My only big gripe with this theater is their selection isnt really up-to-snuff when it comes down to being a head of the curve - and thats exactly what they should be trying to do as a business. Nevertheless, its a sweet place that I hit up at least a couple times a year. Maybe if they grabbed the new Herzog flick or something like that theyd see my ugly face more often...but whatever. And another thing, I forget if they serve nachos or not - thats very important.

Never again. RUDE STAFF. I have been coming here for years! Saw a sign in window for mom and baby movies that peaked my curiosity--went in to inquire about it with 2 kids and an infant. One of the kids had to use the rest room. Attendant blocked them from it. I was shocked! Was told we were not customers. I asked again since what kind of jerk stops a young child from using a restroom. Asked to speak to a manager who offered me the same thing. RUDE. I called them to day to let them know. I have a feeling I spoke to the same manager. My concern was they treat kids so poorly and offer mommy and me movies and kids parties, so one would think. They dont care about their customers and I will be going to the super cinemas with my kids.

I love this theatre. In the age of cinema megaplexes this is a nice throw back to the age of community movie theatres. The staff is nice, the chairs are fairly comfortable, the price is right and it is never really crowded. They have a coffee shop so you can have a latte or hot chocolate while you watch. My favorite part though is that this cinema gives back to the community in ways that are rare today. They also have a great documentary film festival that brings attention to some little known but really great lower budget films. Please support this theatre, by doing so you support both the local economy and local arts scene.

This place is Salems answer to Cabot St. cinema in Beverly. Cinema Salem places first fun films but also offers indie films. The theater could use some updating, it seems to be the same when I used to go there as a kid in the 80s. It is not stadium seating and sometimes you have to play the moving game when someone tall sits in front of you. The service has always been good and I do enjoy the ads/information that is on the screen prior to the movie. They also do not appear to put up with rowdy kids in the theater.

I have never had a bad experience with this place. I am a teacher and scrambled to set up a field trip the last minute because we had a cancellation. The worker that I spoke with was polite, friendly and very accommodating. They dont try to "sell" you certain packages and worked with me to get the best price for my students. On a more personal note. I love walking down to Cinema Salem to see a movie. It isnt overly crowded like AMC or Showcase, but still has amazing quality. Keep up the good work Cinema Salem!

Far from the cineplexs, this little theater is something Salem tries to keep quiet from the tourists. Tucked behind the East India mall, its in walking distance of everywhere. They show mainstream blockbusters but also good indie films. They do a lot of contributing back to the community : part of their profits, hosting free showings of things like Glee and the Obama inauguration. They also host an annual film festival. So come but ... shhhh ... dont tell out-of-towners!

The theater might be OK for a small place but it needs a huge makeover. I saw Flight there and the color was off from the 1st scene, chairs were missing and the ceiling had a bunch of tiles missing. There was about 10 people in the theater and no one checked your tickets which was strange. I dont disagree with the other reviews support it if you like local theaters, just dont expect a brand new place.

Its small and locally owned, but still shows all the big blockbuster hits. It also shows independent films and documentaries that relate to the history of Salem and the area in general. They have a snack bar, as well as a small cafe right next door. Its not as crowded as the big theaters so its great for date night or a relaxing evening taking in a show.

I am not a cinema buff, but this is now my "default" theater: I wont bother going out and viewing a movie unless its here. Theres a great cafe around the corner, pleasant staff, and excellent popcorn; if you dont demand all the biggest blockbusters - and are willing to wait until the right movie is showing - this is the perfect place.

I saw Raging Bull on the big screen for the first time at the CinemaSalem three days ago, and Im still buzzed from the experience. The cinema--including the trailers and cartoon before the show--is a total throwback to a bygone era in every positive sense of the word. I cant wait to go back.

My favorite local cinema. Funky, friendly, familiar. This is not a grand cinema palace, but more like fun movies with you favorite film geeks. Good snacks, nice little coffee bar on site, restaurants nearby, and a comfortable, quiet, independent theatre for an evening out at the movies.

Just a word to balance the review that complained about rude staff. I go there often because I like the local, home-town feel of this small independent cinema. Ive never had a rude exchange with the staff, have always found them helpful and friendly. (And the popcorn is tasty, too.)

Since it only had three screens, you cant see every movie that you want to. I would prefer to see movies there, because the smaller, independently owned theaters do a much better job than the big corporations.

A really great local theater that does regular films, independent films and increasingly, live performances. Quite affordable in terms of tickets and snacks. However, the seats can be a bit uncomfortable.

My friend and I have been coming almost weekly for many years now. The staff is always friendly and gracious in helping us. The MOVIES are terrific, as is the price!! Cannot beat this theater!!!

I love the popcorn. Mmm so good. And how I can take my kids when ever because its not so far away from where I live. And its so less expensive than AMC. The staff are so nice

Always a good experience here. The staff are never rude. Why would a business let someone who wasnt their customer use their bathroom? Youre not a customer, youre entitled.
