This review is based on three trips to the Mega Cavern over a 12 month period and I’d like to point out that the mega quest adventure area and bike park, specifically the dirt jumps, are very unique for something open to the public and easy to find. That makes it easy for me to want to return even if I believe they have room to improve. The attractions: Zip Lining – Skip it, great to have the option but it’s a 3 star experience. Out of 6 places I’ve zipped this was easily the slowest, least fun, most boring experience around. Much more waiting around than zipping. Most caverns are not lit well, excluding the areas that are purposefully left dark which was the best zip because it creates a sense of adventure that’s hard to recreate. The guides do all of the clipping in, unclipping, and stopping you at the landing which really mutes the experience. Mega Quest: Extremely fun for kids and adults. Five starts for sure. My kids are 6 and 9 yo and can spend hours in this area. It’s not a dramatically large area but they have pack a ton of fun and different challenges into this area but kept it small enough that you can keep an eye on your kids pretty easily from the tables out in front of it. The kids love that the experience isn’t something they can do at the local park and that they can do it without any help from an adult. There is one short zip line in this area that my 9yo will gladly do over and over but he has no interest in going on the full zip line tour again. They would come back just for this every time. Bike Park: It’s a work in progress but is definitely improving. I’m going with 4 stars here because it’s great to see a place like this around but it still needs some work to really be a great attraction. Our first time at the bike park was early in 2015 when the park was recently opened and we were underwhelmed by it. We are regular riders at Ray’s MTB and some BMX tracks and this wasn’t very good. However, it is now much improved in in some areas. Specifically the dirt jump lines are expanded and significantly better. They flow better, have much better jump faces and there are several new jumps that have been added. That area is really starting to shine and now has areas that all experience levels can use. I like the dirt jumps and can spend plenty of time working on jumping them. The mountain bike trails are however still a bit lack luster. Yes, there are trails, and a few balance obstacles and bridge crossings but not much of a real challenge or really fun area for pure MTB riders. The ceiling is probably 40+ feet high in the cavern and it would be great if they built up an area that so that there could be a challenging climbing/decent trail up close to the ceiling so that the trails had some elevation change to work with. Yes, there are a couple shipping containers you can ride over but they don’t really provide a significant climb. It’s a great area to get some pedal time in if it’s cold or wet outside but I wouldn’t suggest packing up for a trip to visit just for these. Your local trails are most likely more fun. One huge improvement is that all day bike park access is now $25 for all day. No more of the stupid 4 hour passes and overpriced all day pass. This was a great move for the bike park! This changed around Feb 2016. The Hospitality: The room where the mega quest is located includes very nice washrooms that are kept clean, a gift shop, a large table area with a good amount of seating and a small snack bar. It’s a nice area but I can’t get over the snack bar and strongly feel that this is an area that needs massive improvements to make this place family friendly. They offer chips, candy, energy bars, bottled drinks etc. but nothing significant and they do not allow outside food or drinks. So, unless you want to feed yourself and kids with junk food all day this limits the experience to a short visit.

My boyfriend and I decided to go to the BMX bike track at the Mega Cavern. First of all, a week before we went we spent almost $200 to go zip lining and had a blast so we had decided to go back and try another attraction. The BMX park is POORLY advertised. This park is designed for people with experience. They advertise the park with kids riding. I can not see how kids ride this park without lots of experience. The price was POORLY advertised. We prepaid for reservations online.NO WHERE did it say how much bike and helmet rental so that was a surprise once we got there. We were warned it was the wet season but since this was our first time doing BMX we did not know that the tires would cake up mud. We both had two different bikes with two different frames and two different types of tires. My bike kept caking up so much mud I had to stop every 500ft and pull the mud out. It was so much mud that my brakes were locking up. I took my concerns to the front desk and they said once they write down a serial number down on a piece of paper you cant change your bike. Which doesnt seem logical if all if takes it changing the damn serial number, especially if a guest spends that much money to ride. Claire, was the employee who continuously told us we couldnt change the bike out. She has no customer service skills, she is very rude and shouldnt be in the position she is in. Claire wouldnt allow us to finish talking before telling us ALL the bikes cake up mud and we would have to deal with it and we had the chance to test out the bikes before we rode. My boyfriends bike was not caked up with mud at all, only mine. She didnt even take the time to come out to look at it. She stated we could spay it off but there was only one spray off station and that was before you start, which we couldnt find anyway. It wouldnt of helped because I would have to stop every 10 minutes to poke the mud out. My boyfriend wiped out and broke his bike and asked where he could find tools to fix the RENTAL bike. They stated in area 3 that there was bike tools. We went over there and the tools were complete bull. They were rusted and connected to a short wire so they couldnt be stolen (understandable) but the wire was too short. Shout out to Brian though. He was working out in the park and helped us fix the bike and tried to get our bikes traded out but his hands were tied and he couldnt do anything because of Claire. She was very rude over the radio about the situation to Brian as well which we could hear the entire conversation. We will no longer be returning to the mega Cavern because of Claire and the bad customer service and will continue to tell everyone about the bad experience we had.

I was in town for a business trip and had nothing to do, so I looked on Trip Advisor and found this place ranked high. So I went online and booked a zip line tour. RSVP is necessary. Weekends are more, but its better than sitting in your hotel room all day. GoPro advice skip to continue reading: Its dark. They barely light the place, I mean its a cavern. They do light the deepest parts, so it gives you that reference point of being way up on the air. Dont expect to get National Geographic shots. They ONLY let you bring a GoPro for a camera. I had my skeleton case, but it does have its wet areas. Still, didnt suffer any damage (relief). When I called in to ask about mounting the GoPro, the lady said I should bring my own mount. I recommend the curved self adhesive saddles with elbow joints. If you bring a clip-on, use at your own risk. My GoPro was constantly being hit by the cris-cross of suspension wires but the strong 3M adhesive kept it secured to my helmet. Oh, and they had A helmet with a saddle stuck on it already, so just ask before you stick it on. They might still have it and you can save a saddle. The tour was good. Its a man-made cavern and not a natural cave so there werent a lot of natural decorations, but some of the zip lines are far off the ground. Very cool. Tessa, our guide was fun, making jokes here and there, scaring the children, really trying to get the group to warm up. Greg was playing it cool and not being dorky, I think hes newer. All in all, it was a neat experience for the money. If youve zip lined before like I have but above ground, this is a new experience. Its muddy, slippery, and you feel like Indiana Jones. Great for kids with family members. Tip: get the student discount -$10.00.
