I was visiting Des Moines from out of town, Chicago to be exact, the other week and a friend and I decide to go golfing. I had golfed Blank before and enjoyed the course so when my friend said he found a tee time, I gladly agreed to play. We get to the course, get our cart, and pull up to hole 1 with no problems. The front nine was great and I really enjoyed playing the course. Once we got back to the clubhouse to make the turn to hole 10, we noticed a build up of a few carts on the tee. We didnt have any hold ups on the front so we thought it was strange that there were three or four carts lined up. This is where everything goes downhill. My friend and I walk in the clubhouse to simply see if there was a reason that there was a build up and grab a quick bite to eat. We get our food and wait in line to speak with the attendant. Once we got to the front of the line, we politely asked if there was a reason for the build up, as we had activities later in the afternoon that could be disrupted if the hold-up took too long. Again, we simply asked without any anger, aggression, or bad spirit. The attendant, Eric, out of nowhere exploded on us. He yelled about how we were supposed to start on hole 10 and that we were in the wrong. At this point, my friend and I were extremely confused for several reasons. I dont know why he was yelling and cursing at us. If he had told us to start on hole 10, we would have. Its that simple. We were not trying to bend any rules or step outside our boundaries. Nobody told us to start on hole 10, so we started on hole 1 like any other golf course. At this point, we were still in shock about how quickly Eric escalated the situation. We mentioned how we would just continue and play the back, but the attendent then tried to blame us for the situation and kept shouting "Fine. Go ahead and cut in line. Ruin everyone elses round." Once he tried to place us in the wrong, I figured there was no use in arguing with him. We simply asked for our money back for the back 9 and we would be on our way. That escalated into how they dont give refunds. We werent going to continue playing after being abused like that, so finally he said he could give us rain checks that we could use some other time. One, I dont personally plan on ever returning. Two, I live five hours away so a rain check doesnt do me a whole lot of good. Well we had to take what we could get, so my friend ended up paying me for the amount of the rain check, even though I dont blame him if he never returned. While all of this was occurring, customers were present and the worker in the food area was watching with her eyes in awe. As he was getting us the rain checks, I made a point to mention how there was no need to yell or curse at us, to which his reply was "I NEVER CURSED", even though I could not count the number of f-bombs he dropped. As we were taking our cart to the parking lot to return our clubs to my car, the couple who were in front of us in line were passing by. We gave them our cart and got into a conversation. They said that as they were walking out, they had to stop when they heard Eric explode on us agreed how ridiculous it was. After all was said and done, we couldnt even be mad about the situation. It was something too comical to be taken seriously. I did want to call the President, Jeff, to simply let him know of the situation, because I would want to know if one of my employees was abusing the customer, especially in front of other customers. All of this is occurring at a city golf course, keep in mind. I tried calling multiple times and Jeff was either out of the office or unable to speak. After four attempts without being able to speak with him and two attempts with nobody even answering the phone, the employee who answered offered to take my name and number and have Jeff call me back. Its been three days and I have not heard from him. The course itself is great, but it has forever lost my business (As I am in Des Moines frequently) and the rest of the city courses have as well.

We chose the golf course for our wedding ceremony and reception, and Im so glad we did. It was perfect. The staff at the golf course were so helpful and kind, and during the actual ceremony some of the golfers stopped to watch and clapped after we kissed (guests told me about this because I was a bit busy). The day of the wedding there was a chance of rain, so we knew the ceremony might have to be inside, but when I showed up that afternoon I was pleasantly surprised to see the chairs set up outside. It started to rain shortly after, but the rain cleared, and the staff went right out to start wiping down chairs so the ceremony could take place outside. I was so thankful they were willing to do that. I feel like they really went above and beyond in this and many situations. Most places would have just seen the chance of rain and made the call to set up inside. The room for the reception was amazing! The high ceilings and beams are beautiful, and the addition of the white lanterns was a perfect touch. The access to outdoor spaces was nice too (especially for pictures). I would choose this space for any larger event! Its very affordable, has great catering attached to it (Barattas), and the fact that pretty much everything is included (set up, tear down, etc) made it perfect for our wedding.

Very disappointed with management. We were stacked behind two groups of 5 and 6 golfers. I know it was a very nice day and at the end of the season, but thats no excuse to allow them to play and thus slow up play for everyone else on. Neither of those groups would allow anyone behind to play through. We tried to play 18 but after 4+ hours we had to cut it short at 16 due to other commitments.

The golf coarse is fine, but this review is about the local well mannered kids i got hooked up with. Chad and Brad added a star just for being polite and kind to this out-a-state old timer. Also, Mark behind the counter in the pro shop was amiable and obliging. Its people like these that help you forget you could have played better.

Surprisingly nice for a city course. Well maintained, scenic, and great location. Very nice GPS in all the carts and you cant beat the cost. The fairways are blue grass, but for a city course you cant beat it. Likely the best of the 3 city courses?

I love this course. It is inexpensive and relatively easy to play with few hazards and flat terrain. Backing up to the Blank Park Zoo, you do hear the train that comes around somewhat frequently. The staff is friendly and the scenery is relaxing.

Nice golf course. Not overly challenging but great course if you are just trying to get into golf. Course has a driving range and a practice green to warm up at. Side note you can see some animals at the blank zoo from a couple of holes.
