Very Interesting short hikes big payoff for little effort. Bring clothes and shoes to play in stream. You can just do north loop for shorter walk. I would insist an adult supervise crossing the backbones if children are present. Turkey backbone would be a rough slide and recovery. Devils backbone would result In a series injury or death. Honeycomb rock is a great place to stop and eat/play/take nap. Not crowded when we were here. No camping.

Its very beautiful! But its no longer "Indianas best kept secret" as our Indiana Nature Conservancy Guide to Indiana Nature Preserves book touted. It was totally packed. We counted 25 cars in the lot. You now have to enter from Shades State Park, as they seem to have annexed it. Too bad. It would be a lovely place for some peace and quiet. It is gorgeous, just the busiest nature preserve weve ever visited.

I love the unique geologic features of this place. Its difficult to believe that such a place exists in Indiana. One word of caution is that it can be a difficult place to visit for small children or if youre not in good physical condition. The heights and narrow pathways can be demanding mentally and physically. If youre up for the challenge, it can be quite an experience to behold.

This is an amazing little world to visit. If youre visiting Shades State Park, make sure to take Trail 10 to Pine Hills. Its a long walk, but youll be glad you went. With places like The Turkey Backbone, The Slide, The Devils Backbone, and Honeycomb Rock, youll be glad you make the effort.

Takes a bit of a hike to get to but well worth it. Has a few parts that are kinda rough so I wouldnt advise bringing kids or pets. Devils backbone is really unique but use caution crossing it and enjoy the view.

Part of Shades State Park, Pine Hills is one of my favorite parts of Shades. If you skipped past this before thinking its a boring nature trail, youd be mistaken.

Great hidden gem in Indiana. A couple precarious climbs, especially after a rain. But worth checking out at least once, even if uneasy with heights.
