David Breckenridge — 1 star Went to Canopy Club Saturday, November 22 to listen to Mathew Curry Band and Joe Hertler and The Rainbow Seekers. My wife and I were also celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary so, I had purchased a number of advanced tickets (7) for friends and family. What a great big DISAPPOINTMENT with the venue. There was NO seating unless you wanted to sit on the dirty sticky bar /dance floor. Advertisement and tickets said that doors opened at 8:00 pm with bands to start playing at 9:00 pm. After we got there, the Canopy Club had a sign that said the bands would start at 9:30 and Mathew Curry would start at 11:00. They only had one bartender on duty. Oh, did I mention that the members of my party and ourselves traveled from Peoria to watch this. 2 of my party have medical problems (MS) and did not find the floor very accommodating nor comfortable. Needless to say, I was quite embarrassed for having everyone travel such a distance (200 miles round trip) and to have to put up with these conditions. No one was in the mood to celebrate much, as you can imagine. The only thing that saved face with my friends were that the music was FANTASTIC. Both bands were very entertaining and I feel that we all will be hearing about them much more in the near future. I will definitely go ELSEWHERE to enjoy their music. I will NOT RECOMMEND that anyone attend this venue.

Good location, poor parking. Obviously an old movie theater, which adds character, however, disgusting and dirty, especially the restrooms, which appeared to not have been thoroughly cleaned in years....you could see where the floor had been mopped and toilet tissue that had been on the floor was stuck like glue in various locations around the restroom. I witnessed several people leave the restroom without entering any further due to its state. Drinks are watered down and way over priced at $5 and the cocktail doesnt even include one shot of your selected alcohol. We went specifically to see the Mummies perform, wont go back. Awful environment for the middle aged, but hey, if youre a twenty-something who doesnt care what you spend or where you are since youll be regurgitating it up later, rock on!

Scariest club Ive ever been too, a small fight broke out in the corner of the stage area during the show and the security guards started macing the crowd, caused a stampede, a young girl trying to leave got her nose broken because the guards were out of control. The upper deck was the safest place to be thankfully, but organization is in order to prevent innocent people from being hurt. Never again will I set foot in that place. If you go wear body armor and a gas mask.

Seen various artists here. Very relaxed venue. Seems as though it is an old theatre turned into a venue. Towards the stage the seats are removed allowing for an open dance floor. There is also seating in the back if you dont feel like standing. Have never had a bad time at the Canopy Club.

Heres the thing.. Its a COLLEGE venue. If you want to be around awesome young people and dont mind the occasional joint or fight, its the place to go. If youre expecting a clean high quality concert, dont come here. I think its a great experience, unique! Gets hot, so dress appropriately.

Ive seen Clutch, Blind Melon, High on Fire, and Buckethead here. All the shows were fantastic. Its a nice intimate feeling venue. It has a college venue feel to it. I would go back to see a show there.

Had a fantastic time seeing "Ben Folds and a Piano". The venue is PERFECT for an intimate feeling to see an artist and is near great parking and food options. Cant recommend highly enough.

Frustrating to pre-order tickets for evens to get the discount to end up paying the extra money you would have had to spend at the door. They shouldnt advertise a price difference.

I dont know too much about the standard crap they have regularly on weekdays, but a lot of bands signed to Polyvinyl play here, and pretty much anything from there is win

Parking tip: all U of I parking (including meters in front of U of I buildings) is free after 5pm. So the lot across the street from the venue works.

Trash, speaker system blew out and concert ended early, headliner barely got to play. No compensation offered by venue.
