Last night I went to go buy my tickets to Star Wars, of course, at the Navy Pier IMAX theater. We had called ahead and were told by the box office that we would be able to buy them after the commercial aired (during halftime) and that we would be able to buy them in the box office and not have to worry about online. I got there hours early. Arriving around 5:30pm, I went in and double checked with the box office and was told the same thing. I walked around for a little bit because there was no line, but then I came back and formed an official queue with some fellow Star Wars fans. I was first in line. At first the woman, who I later learned is the supervisor, came out and told me and the ONE other guy standing on the side of the box office, "You guys have to move you are confusing our other customers" (there were no other customers, and a please and thank you would have been nice) We were a little taken back by the brashness in her request, but whatever, right? We are getting Star Wars tickets. The short line now forming with us was friendly, we talked games, comics, and passed the time by. However before the end of the second quarter in the Giants-Eagles game the register girl popped her head out and said "good news guys we can sell you tickets now!" Weird, considering the commercial hadnt aired yet, but we were really excited!! I swing around the the register and explain that I need 10 tickets for middle back or wherever, (buying for friends dont mean I gotta sit with them) and the register girl looked at me like I was an idiot and rudely asked "What day, what time?" with extreme attitude. Once again, whatever, Im excited, Star Wars!!! I explain to her Dec 17th at 7pm. She looks at me and says "thats sold out." I asked, surprised, not angry, "How? You just started selling them" Then she once again took an attitude and said "Well they sell online first" This is COMPLETELY contrary to what we were told on the phone earlier in the day. If I knew they would go on sell online first I would have sat at my computer in the comfort of my own home hitting refresh until I could buy some tickets. I stepped to the side to contemplate my next move and see what we should do. They started selling the tickets early AND they sold them online before in the box office. I was a little pissed. The entire line that I was in had the same reaction. The girl at the register looked at us and turned and said "What is so important about this movie, did Jesus make it or something?" So not only did Navy Pier IMAX lie to us, treat us rudely, but then they started making fun of us TO OUR FACES for wanting to see this movie. We tried to express our concerns regarding the issue we kept being told "We dont have control over that." We didnt even get an "Im sorry" from the supervisor. Instead she hid in the box office and sent the concession stand guys to talk to us, hand out cards for her boss (who wasnt available to reach at the time, nor is currently until Thursday) and say the same thing over and over. I know it wasnt the concession guys fault. I know it wasnt the register girl or the supervisors fault. We just wanted to know why we got screwed when we were told box office would be selling them first and when it was unfair because they went up early. After we kept getting the same wall of non-customer-service we were still waiting. There was no "here take a voucher to see a different movie" or "heres a coupon good for a small coke at concessions." There was no apology. There was only contempt and it was felt by every single individual in that line. We were somehow beneath that woman and he crew of theater employees and she didnt care about us at all. She didnt care about the customer. A little while later (hour 4) we get told that the commercial just ran. So not only were we treated rudely, made fun of, and didnt get our tickets, we missed the preview and had over four hours of our lives thrown away with a "well there isnt anything we can do" from the staff at the IMAX.

(Beware - this theater does NOT have restrooms. You have to leave the theater entirely to go to the bathroom.) Years ago, I visited this IMAX to watch Star Trek with a group of friends. My principal gripe was that at the very very end of the movie when the credit were starting and I was swelling with pride to hear the classic Star Trek theme song, the audio was cut over with an unbelievably callous and rude announcer drowning out the song and screaming at the patrons to exit at the top of the theater, not the bottom. GOOD NEWS! Today I went to the Navy Pier IMAX to watch the 2013 Star Trek movie and this time they let the song play through! However, everything up to the credits was awful. I have never *ever* seen little hairs, dust, dirt, specks, whatever, jittering and crawling across a screen before. At first I thought that the white screen itself was dirty, but then the specks of dirt started moving around. Then, what was unmistakably a human hair started curling and crawling around the center of the screen. During the ENTIRE duration of the film, there was debris on the screen. Im not a projectionist, but I can imagine that this is caused by not cleaning or maintaining or whatever the projection device. It was grotesque, distracting, and completely ruined the experience for me. In addition, our seats were a bit to the left of center and every single one of us in my party of 6 thought our 3D glasses were faulty. All of us experienced a shading/blurry right eye vision. I dont know what was the cause, but it was terrible. All in all - I have only myself to blame for going to the Navy Pier IMAX a second time. Fool me twice, shame on me. The only saving grace was that Id seen Star Trek two days before at the ICON theater (at a lesser price) and the projection was flawless, the seats were far more comfortable, and the parking was plentiful and free. This time I really mean it - Im never visiting the Navy Pier IMAX ever again! Additionally, the parking was full when I went, so I had to park 1/4 of a mile away.

The experience is, of course, bigger and better than the typical movie theater. If you see a movie that is specifically filmed in IMAX, its even better still. The seats are nothing special and it can actually get tight if you sit between two larger people. The concessions snacks are marked up higher than usual, so be prepared for that. When the film is over, they make you exit upstairs instead of the way you came in, which isnt a problem for me, but individuals that have trouble with stairs may have some issues.

I go to Chicago 2 times a year. I went a few weeks ago and I had to take the time to write the review. All I can say is wow...... what a great staff. I was checking out some of the upcoming movies and the manager Andrew took time out of his day and talked to me about the upcoming schedule. When I went into the movie the Staff was so nice and polite. I wish I lived closer so that I could take his great staff for my own business. Andrew Keep up the great work see you and your staff again in the summer...
