Ive gone to Cowboy Monkey for various events (Bands, Comedy, Large Groups) over the years. It does an okay job as a venue, although the area in front of the stage is rather small. The large outdoor seating area is another big draw to this place. The service is pretty bad. The wait staff seems perpetually busy and rarely checks on your table. On one occasion I left after not getting any service (even a "hello") after 15 minutes. If you do get service, the food is nothing special. More recently I was served by a very rude bartender who kicked me out after accidentally spilling a candle. I was waiting quite awhile to pay my check, so leaving was no problem. There are many other places around Cowboy Monkey which I would recommend.

If youre going for drinks, the list is huge, lots of beer options and stuff Ive never heard of but my friends loved and were surprised was served. Would not recommend for a meal, only appetizers and snacks. Highly recommend nachos, so yummy. Our server was new, her second day she told us, and was not knowledgable about many things, plus it took forever to pay and process the credit cards. I get it, I was a new server once too, but a trainer with her or someone to assist would have been much better. She had no idea what she was doing and I felt bad for her. No one should put a two-day server on a party of 4 by herself.

My problem with this joint is not that it’s just awful (I’ve long stopped going there), it’s the corrupting influence on the entire town. I hear that the same person owns pretty much all downtown bars here. No wonder he can safely disregard noise (and probably other) city ordinances. Forget about sophistication or good live music, here the meaning of a party is blasting “La Bamba” on a half-empty street (disrupting all other events and businesses as well as living in the downtown area) till 2 AM on a Wednesday night. Next time you are there, think about your money going directly to Mr. Burns of “the Simpsons”

This place is one of my favorites in Champaign. The food is much better than your typical bar food. I have to get the Baja Steak Tacos every time Im there. Inside the building leave allot to be desired especially on some of the live music nights since it is very loud and crowded. The Beer garden gives a welcome and relaxing reprieve from the inside during the summer nights and is usually one of the best places to hang out and have a couple drinks down town.

A few of us were looking for a bar to hit up after dinner one night, and this was the recommendation. We showed up on a night with a live band (I guess they do this once or twice a week), and they were pretty decent. I only went the one time, but was told they have recurrent events scheduled most days - ie, Wednesday is Salsa Night, Sunday is Trivia Night, etc. Nice place; good atmosphere.

This dive is a major corrupting influence on the corrupt little ***hole that this city is. So glad to be out of there and not having to endure CM blasting loud music into my windows till 2 am each trucking night of the week. Even in winter when there are no patrons who wish to hear it. Good riddance, Champaign and state of Illinois in general.

I have to admit, the name alone got my attention, but its the outdoor patio that makes CM truly outstanding. Its the perfect place to spend a warm evening (as well as, I assume, many other times of day). A tad crowded on the weekends, even when school is not in session, but service at the outdoor tables is spot-on. I cant wait to go back!

Very good service, good food, and good drinks. Love the outdoor seating for spring/summertime in Champaign. Many of the other restaurants nearby have outdoor seating and live events or contests so it makes for an overall great atmosphere. TIP: Only order a half plate of Nachos if there are two of you. Very large portions!

I loved everything in cowboy monkey. We enjoyed all the great food and salad we ordered. The beautiful waitresses were all nice... what else...I didnt notice if they had any indoor dining space or not but it was a beautiful outdoor dining area wit flowers and candles.

Nice and cozy venue to experience live music. I drove in from out of town and got a chance to see Champaign-Urbanas own Tara Terra. They sounded great and their music was so fun and pretty. Thanks for the memorable performance!

Nice patio but the selection of craft beer is nothing special - small and without high-quality stuff. The food was average and for a relatively fair price. Not sure well be going back.

The food wasnt bad. Outside seating area is nice. Service was a bit slow - youll feel forgotten about at times. Overall not a bad experience although not sure if I would go again.

Best nachos in CU. When the patio is open during the summer, there are few better places to get food and drink. The service can be a little slow, otherwise itd be a 5 out of 5.

Beautiful beer garden and great tacos and other Mexican food in the summertime. They have good bands play quite often and a really fun open mic night on Tuesdays.

The service is usually slow but always polite. The menu is fairly limited and the food is not very good. There are several much better restaurants in the area.

Wednesday nights Salsa dancing is basically what I come to Cowboy Monkey for. Great music with the right people and good drinks = an amazing night!

Like the salsa, hate the guac. Like the chips, but the Tacos are just "ok". Overall I didnt dislike it, but there are better places for food.

Aside from the 5 dollar door cover for no good reason and the weak drink I guess its an okay place to sit outside in the beer garden.

Food is just okay. A fine place to get a snack in the summer when you can sit outside. I never like going inside - way too loud.
