U.S. Kids Golf makes solid equipment. But their tournaments are set up with poor knowledge of child/teen physiology. If your son is among the tallest and strongest, hell do well, but if he is of average size, he will not be able to compete. They set up the tournaments so that only the very longest hitters (a.k.a. those who have developed the fastest) can even compete. My 13 year old son and my 10 year old son win local events routinely. I played college golf and know swing techniques intimately. They also work with a top-notch teaching pro. But U.S. kids is more considered with awarding the kids who have won the growth-spurt lottery instead of testing accuracy skills. My 13 year old could not reach the par 3s with his driver. The par 4s were par 6s and the par 5s were par 7s. His short game is great, but when you dont even get to use the short game because you dont have the physical strength, it doesnt matter. If U.S. Kids had any sense they would know that if they shorten the length that, sure the stronger kids might be hitting driver then 9 iron on the par 4s, but at least the kids who havent developed as much could hit driver, hybrid and have a putt at it. As it is now, the kids who hit the ball far can swing for the fences off the tee knowing that they already have a couple of shots over the smaller kids just based on the length of the hole. So even if they hit it in the water or out in the trees, a penalty shot STILL puts them ahead of the smaller kids. In conclusion: if your son is the tallest, longest armed, and has the broadest of shoulders among his peers, he can compete. If your child is average or below average, it will be a confidence-destroying, miserable experience that you should avoid. The winners of U.S. Kids events are the ones who hit the ball furthest. Its too bad that they put so much emphasis on rewarding the kids who are ahead in the development race and dont even give the smaller kids a shot at it by being very accurate. We will never be part of another U.S. Kids tournament because of this and several other parents have told me the same thing. This only propagates the U.S. Kids Longest Hitters Club.....oops, I mean "U.S. Kids Golf" being dominated by the kids who were the fastest developers. Its sad and bad for the game of golf and for kids.

Its just really disappointing that, for the boys tournaments, they set the courses up so that only the biggest and strongest boys can reach the greens in the amount their supposed to. If your son is average size or smaller, he will be behind by 10 shots or more before the tournament even starts. They should probably be named "The Biggest U.S. Kids Golf" instead. With the girls, its different though.
