I used to play at the Pines at Pompano Beach Golf Course for years, but after Greg Norman redesigned, and destroyed, the Old Pines Course, there is no reason to go there anymore. The Palms are ok, but not in great shape now. Dont believe me, look at the vacant parking lot that used to be packed all the time. People used to wait in line to play there at 5 am all year round. Now it is empty after the local government powers that be redid the course. If it aint broke . . . Locals now shy away, and play courses like Colony West or Crystal Lake. The only time Pompano is busy is during the tourist season due solely to the great location, and the tons of tourists down here then. The old Pines Course used to be one of the best layouts in Broward County, but Norman butchered the layout, taking out anything that could be considered challenging, to hasten play above all else, so you get a fast food McDonalds course, except worse, no substance, like cotton candy, or marsh mellow fluff that baits you into trying it, but has no value, and as such, if you like challenging play, you arent likely to come back. The only thing that keeps the course going after Norman are players who prefer easy courses with few players on them, and the local taxpayers who foot the bill to keep this empty course afloat. Norman took the hips off of Jennifer Lopez and wonders why no one wants to watch the movie. They robbed the course of its natural character, and its tried and true design that had been cut into the land there over the decades; its harsh windblown spirit, almost like a links course in that was so poorly cared for, but yet somehow survived the brutal Florida elements despite its poor upkeep. So men had to kill it. Turnabout is fair play. Whoever the "city planners" were that redesigned and destroyed the old Pompano Course, should be hunted down and beaten savagely. Helen Keller couldnt even enjoy the new layout. What a joke. The government destroyed a local landmark, and encourages to this day, exotic plants to overrun the only large, native, sand pine forest in the area that is akin to the Pines and Cypress trees found on the Monterey Peninsula at the much more famous Pebble Beach Golf Course in California. They had a rare treasure In Pompano, and would have done better with it to pave the course over, and put a parking lot in its place instead. At least they would make some money with a parking lot. Now they lose money, and everyone hates the course. Truly government inaction. Save yourself the trouble, dont go there. I would not even give the "Normanized" course 1 star, but they wont let me post unless I give it at least one star. The course and the management there deserve zero stars for just showing up and destroying a one time local treasure. Any idiot could make a better track out of the new course by changing the tees and greens around back to near what they were before. What a bunch of jerks. I had moved away, and come back to play the New Pines Course 3 years after they redesigned it. And an employee there who recognized me because I had played there every weekend for the 5 years preceding that, immediately asked me if I had played the new layout yet ? I said no, and after I played the course I realized why he knew I had not played the new layout, because I, like everyone else who had played there before, would never go back there again, like a cheap in and out carnival ride. Sad, but a true story. Thousands of people loved that old course, including myself. It was also a busy money maker. Now, it is HUGE LOSER. I would rather get an enima than play there. Norman chokes it again.

Had a terrible experience with Pompano Beach Municipal Course on Memorial Day. First off, they told me $35 on the phone and it turned out to be $40. No big deal, although the ladies behind the glass could care less. (What kind of golf course treats you like you are buying tickets at a box office?) Then, we get out to play and there is no one driving a cart service liquids even though it was 95 degrees out. The worst part is that the Pines course is designed so the turn at 9 is no where near the clubhouse. My friend and I went to split a Gatorade at a machine at hole 8 because that is ALL THEY HAD and we were dying. No ice, no water, no cart with drinks, nothing. So we go to get a Gatorade and GUESS WHAT!! The machine doesnt take anything other than dollar bills!!! This course is a prime example of why business run by the government will always leave you disappointed and frustrated. NO ONE CARES!!!!!

One of the sloppiest golf courses Ive been to here in Florida the cater to the locals in the area . I had an 8:30 T time and they thought and they put a bunch of foursomes in front of me Im a 10 handicap golfer and much faster player they should have let me go first in front of them. this place has the worst customer service Ive ever experienced.. If you are golfer and not some hack job this is not the place for you .They all new staff the this place needs a major make over along with there aditudes a simple good morning would . The golf cart guy was screaming his personal problems from home this place was uhhhh.

The pines course is in maintainance but still open and they charge you the full price. Why doesnt they close the course for a week? It is unplayable. For putting you need a sandwedge and the fairways got long grass as well. Greenkeepers everywhere not taking care about the golf players and driving criss cross during your drive. Blaming the city of pompano beach, not the course. Ridicolous and last time I played there. Have a look at Boca Raton Municipal or Osprey if you want to see a city maintained course with perfect service and condition.

Not even worth $13. I have played on a lot of $hitty courses before, but the palms course tops the list by far. The course might as well be listed as abandoned considering its condition. However, if you are one of those people who cant leave the house without your dog, this could be the course for you; because I witnessed a dog $hitting in the fairway next to me - and the owner didnt even have the decency to pick it up. Make sure to have very low expectations if you are considering wasting your time here.
