A must see for tourist when they come to D.C. This is a great palce to run/walk up and down for a good leg workout as well. During some of my runs I will go through Georgetown and when I do I pass through this staircase for the perfect work out! It can be scary going down the stairs so make sure you are holding the rail! It is a quick site to see that is generally overlooked. You are near a lot of stores and resturants in the Georgetown area, so it is a nice additon to your walk along M Street. I enjoy coming here during September and October time because its not too hot anymore, so you will not get as bad of a sweat walking up the staircase.

I love these steps not only because theyre key to the plot in The Exorcist, but also because theyre an entrance to a beautiful and walkable Georgetown neighborhood (where there are other Exorcist spots as well). Its interesting to note that some optical tricks in the movie made the house appear to be flush against the stairs, while in reality there is a yard between the steps and the house. Mind you, though the exterior of the house was used in the movie, interior shots were done in a studio, so theres no reason to bother the hapless residents.

Even though it was just a movie, the stairs are creepy in itself. It’s steep and dizzying and created with crackling bricks. These stairs often become part of the workout routine for the college-aged joggers who travel up and down the steps. We had to avoid at least a dozen joggers huffing and puffing during the mere 10 minutes we were there. Luckily we still managed to get some good photos.

Very cool, classic spot. Its fun to stand at the top and see everyone get to the top, completely winded and grabbing onto the guardrail. Needless to say, its much easier going down. Lives up to its name. You have to be possessed to go up the steps. These steps must also be what will kill you. All in all, being a native, Im used to the steps. But definitely recommended to check out.

Love to stop coming into DC with friends I am bring into DC to get a picture with them and the evening lighting is just perfect for a picture at the bottom. If you are in the right lane coming cross the bridge it is easy to turn in before the gas station and park for a picture. Make sure to lock your doors just for extra protection. I recommend locking your care everywhere in DC .

In the early 80s, when gtown used to be the hub of goth and metal head activity I used to work on K street as a bar back in a place called the Bayou. We lived in a "squat" near there and those steps and the house above used to be a favor party site for us goths. There also used to be a bar called Posuers at the end of the block on M st. Some of the best times of my life.

A casa onde foi gravado o filme O Exorcista de 1973! Considerado por muitos como um dos melhores filmes de terror da história do cenema!

Every horror fans dream, have your photo taken as if fallen down the steps. Marvell at the runners using it as a work out and enjoy the local area far from the maddening crowd. Sick Smith a great make up artist created great make up for the movie.

Pretty cool! Come to DC all the time for work but never knew this was here in Georgetown until I stumbled across it (not literally thankfully). Recommend visiting at night. The pale sodium lights give it just the right creep factor. :)

Cool stop for movie fans. Tough to get a picture with all the people running up and down the steps though. A spooky spot, but a highly recognized one when it comes to film history. Definitely worth a visit if youre in the area.

The stairs are scary just by themselves. So steep that my wife and friends were unwilling to walk down them. And these were people who ran in the Marine Corps Marathon the next day.

In reality, the house at the top of the steps does not have a wing right up to the edge as it appears to be in the movie. Nonetheless a must-walk for any Exorcist aficionado.

I know, I had to do it. Emblematic place in DC facing Georgetown. It is funny to see how the locals could care less and just use it for training or running purposes!

Make sure you read the plaque at the top of the stairs. I almost missed it. Talks about all the movies/TV shows filmed in Georgetown and gives some good history.

Im scared of heights as it is. Standing at the top made me queasy just looking over the edge. Creepy for sure. Its a must see if youre anywhere near Georgetown.

I was soooooooo excited and sooooo happy. As a movie fan (hines the name) I felt like I was in the movie and apart of history, yes it was that serious for me.

Standing at the top of these stairs and then walking down and back up was a life ambition fulfilled. Indulging memories of one of the greatest horror movies.

Awesome to visit a place that was a theme for a movie. An old school horror film like Psycho and Night of The Walking Dead. Brings back good memories.

Great exercise. The Exorcist house is not as close to the stairs as it looks in the movie. Some good places to eat around here when youre done.
