I went to see the Abraham Lincoln Memorial in my eighth grade class field trip. It was a wonderful experience! There is the states engraved around the top of the outside of the Memorial. It is directly across from the Washington Memorial. It is great for taking pictures infront of the Memorial or to take pictures of the Washington Memorial. On either side of the Abraham Memorial is a row of columns, on the left side ofthe Abraham Memorial is one "page" of writing engraved in the wall, of course, I do not remember what it said. Above that is a painting that goes across the whole wall, if I remember correctly, it has a table with people and a almost angel type person in the middle. On the right side of the Abraham Memorial is three "pages" of writing engraved also. Again, I can not remember what it said. Above that is I think the same painting as the other side, minus a few differences. There is an elevator to your left that is for handicapt perposes and possible a bathroom. On your right is a small gift shop. There is a few myths about the Abraham Memorial, such as he is holding his hands in the shape of an A for Abraham and a L for Lincoln. I do not know sign-language so I can not say this is false. There is also a myth about there is Robert E. Lees face carved in the back of his head, this I can say is not true. Also there is a myth that the number of stairs is the age or something to that effect that he died, but that is also wrong. I think the number is 57 but should be 56, I might be mistaken. When you walk in and see it will blow your mind away. I recommened this place to be on your list if you are planning on visting Washington D.C. I will also recommened Seeing the White House, and if you can get a tour, which I could not get the oppurtunity to. Also The Holocaust Museum, National Museum Of American History, The Iwo Jima Memorial, And most of all, The Arlington Memorial, see the Kennedys graves and most of all the Changing Of the Guard

The Lincoln Memorial is the cornerstone of all monuments in Washington DC. Now that may be quite a claim, but history backs it up very well. I am sure there are many opinions and scholars would debate the point, so what! The Lincoln Memorial is huge. The Lincoln Memorial is Stunning. The Lincoln Memorial is impressive. Be sure to read and consider all the remembrances carved in stone into the walls, Note the names of all the states carved around the top on the outside. Look back across the reflecting pond and think of the foresight in placing this monument and the surrounding area aside to preserve our memories. After considering all the incredible actions taken by Mr. Lincoln to bring our country forward, well it is all very humbling indeed. After enjoying the monument, take time to squeeze into the very small gift shop that houses so many things about Lincoln. Books Posters, Quotes, and much more. I wish I could read all the books and absorb this history. I get overwhelmed at the thought of all this history flowing over me like an avalanche!
