Nice campground but the camp sites are very close to one another and the noise factor on the weekends is horrible. A cacophony of car alarms, crappy FM music blaring music from equally crappy Chevy pickup trucks as well as the obligatory drunk and/or stoned loosers belly laughing into the wee hours of the morning are to be expected on weekends. Why do these folks bother to come to the mountains? Beats me. Its sure not for the peace and quiet. Too bad they ruin the experience for everyone else. We only lasted one sleepless night and wont be returning. There are some primitive campsites along the road on the way to the campground (some of which are really lovely) that will allow you to avoid the nonsense. The private campground on Wellington Lake is the better bet if youre ok with the $20-30 per night fee.

I wouldnt bother with the campground, there are about 40 dispersed (free!) campsites on the road that are much more enjoyable. Theyre really spread out and very large, perfect for groups. Spent about 4 days here and loved it. Lot of trails and very quiet. Wellington lake is also close by and a beautiful site to see, however there is a fee.

Love, love, love this campground! You cant beat free. It blows me away that all 32 of these sites are free. They get busy on the weekend, but thats because theyre such great campsites. Theyre also right on top of some of the best mountain biking in the front range. If youre a camper who also rides, this place isca no-brainer.
