I have never been one to write reviews, but this place gave me the proper motivation to get an account and leave some appropriate feedback. Ill start at the beginning. (A very good place to start) We bought a new camper and wanted to take it out the same day for a quick overnight so we ended up at this armpit of a campground. Cheyenne Mountain did not have room, so we went to Golden Eagle. I think they must always have room, because they only attract ignorant or desperate people. I guess I was a little of both. I cant imagine that they get repeat business here. Anyway, upon registration, I encountered the nasty old hag that runs the place. Earlier that day, I spoke to a different lady who said she would discount our stay by $2 because of our three year old. (this was an exception to the rule, normally two and under are free.) Long story short, the old hag would not give the discount and went further to say that I was mistaken and could not have possibly talked to anyone that would give me that rate. I looked at my cell phone to verify that I indeed had the correct phone number. I did. I really didnt care about the $2. It was the fact that she really enjoyed telling me that I was mistaken when I was not. She got the $2 and I got to write the world about the experience. I hope this review costs her more than the $2 she got from me. If you enjoy dealing with weirdos and run-down campgrounds with tiny fire rings, this place is for you!

I agree with Justin, incredibly rude staff. The owner doesnt like kids, quite simply. She sat in her car and watched us because... get this... after it had rained the kids got some mud on the chairs by where their feet would go. According to them it would take them HOURS to clean (it would take me 5 minutes, tops). It wasnt even a lot of mud. After that we were watched for hours, literally, while we roasted marshmallows. Oh, and then we were yelled at for collecting small pieces of wood around our camp to use as kindling. Apparently this takes away from them selling wet firewood. Im truly sad by this. We have some amazing family memories here. We will never, ever go back.

I have visited this campground a number of times and would like to steer people AWAY from the campground. The owners are extremely invassive on your privacy and extremely rude when they confront you. My family was told to turn our radio OFF after is was put on a 4-5 volume (which was very very low), while our neighbors blasted their radio at full blast. They also parked down the road from our campsite and watched us until 3 AM to make sure we didnt turn our radio on or have a fire above the edge of the fire pit. Extremely unproffesional and they have lost me and my famiies buisness forever.

Once again weve had an excellent time at this camp ground. We tent camp and have found the convenience of electrical and water connections at the sites to be especially nice. The ladies who man the office are so nice and accomodating to us and all of our children (5). Weve had wonderful experiences through the years at this campground and would recommend it to any one wanting a great camping experience. The Bug museum is fantastic and worth the time. The Space Museum, though basic, is great for kids and adults alike. Well be back soon for further fun. :-)

This is a large campground with fishing lakes and a real rustic, retro feel. There are lots of hiking trails. The bug and space museums are educational and fun. Its a family owned operation. The ladies who run it are very helpful, informative and kind. Its far enough from the city so you feel like you are getting away but close enough to all the attractions, shopping, and activities that you can enjoy with a short drive. We enjoy this place and recommend it.

I get many opportunities to visit various RV parks by having a traveling job. From my experiences, Golden Eagle Campground is one of the greatest! Its a family owned business and they love what they do! From office to grounds keeper, everyone is like a friend. The location is astounding with extraordinary hiking trails as well as a stocked lake. I love this place and pretty much come back every summer.

I had the pleasure of knowing Mr. May. I first met him when I was on a field trip in 3rd grade. He was as kind and thoughtful person then as he was when I last saw him shortly before his death. His daughter helped out since she was a little girl. I have taken my children and grandchildren there and l hope that I live long enough to take my GREAT grandchildren there. This place is iconic.

OMG this place is the best! Went there on a whim and have discovered our little Paradise! My almost 4 year old loved it! Its a self guided tour and if you love bugs like we do, it could take a couple hours...Added plus theres a campground on the property that is absolutely stunning as well. Everytime was affordable and we will be back!

You sort of have to work to find this place, but it is amazing!! An incredible collections of insects, etc. Well worth a visit. By the way, the "one star reviews seen in a couple of the reviews are for the RV Park not the museum. The museum is awesome.

ignore the mean reviews, the bug museum is an awesome private collection of crazy bugs huge and small. well worth the trip. the space museum IS dreadful but is really just an add on as John May became obsessed with space in his later years.

I agree with the person who said ignore the negative reviews. Some people have a "bug" (sorry cant help myself) up their butt. Stayed here many times over the years. Staff bent over backwards for me.

This is a must-see. It will amaze you in all of its astounding beauty, impressive scale, and creeping horror. Dont be fooled by the humble building. Theres much to marvel at within these walls.
