Ive been living in the South Bay area and never knew about this wonderful piece of history until last week at their Holiday Open House event. Free self-guided tours of the residence. I learned a lot about Mr. Banning and how Port of LA came to existence. The open house event was lovely as all the staff members and volunteers dressed into specific era of history. Complimentary trolley rides were available as well as tasty snacks. I also enjoyed the local mom & pop vendors in the back courtyard. I love to support local businesses! Theres a railroad/train exhibit on the 1st floor and that was neat to visually see the transportation logistics of goods and such. There was another building to watch a historical video. Small, but beautiful rose garden in the back. Since I was in a time crunch, I breezed through everything in an hour, which is definitely NOT enough time. I vow to be back again to reach each placard. Limited hours for tours. Suggested donation of $5, which Id happily donate when I come back.

Photographers, unless you want yet another photo of the outside of the house, dont bother. Though no one can explain why, you cannot take photos inside the house. "We want to preserve the antiques" is the only, nonsensical, excuse they can come up with. Sad, and it limits their outreach. When 10 people sign up for a tour and none show up, you would think theyd be glad for some positive publicity.

I went on a field trip with Richmond Street School. I loved it. This was a really nice piece of history. We loved looking at the boys bedroom, the girls bedroom, spying through the key hole to see the other rooms, it was fun! We buzzed all over learning about the era. I would recommend this tour to any history buff.

It has been many years since I visited this place. I when there on a school field trip. It was a very good experience. They tell you the hole story of the place an the family that used to live there time ago. It was scary but very interesting at the same time :-)

Incredible site in the middle of a massive park with an immense community use. It is amazing to think what this site meant for the history of the region, let alone the sheer size. Well kept -parking is difficult but worth the drive.

A look to the past and present! The old house shows a past way of living with a nice park setting in a somewhat rough looking transient shipyard neighborhood.
