Started hiking here over forty years ago and still love this place. Park in the parking lot at the very end of Bollinger Canyon and youll notice the paved trail (closed service road) that leads to the top. This road is about a mile long and rises in elevation approximately 1000. The road leads to a an antenna site that sits on the top of the ridge. About a 100 yards to the west, across open fields, is a second ridge from which you can see San Francisco Bay and the skyscrapers in downtown San Francisco. Tremendous views all around. If youre still up for a bit more hiking head south from the antenna site, going parallel to the ridge to the west. As you hike south, along a dirt road through open meadows, youll notice that the ridge to the west drops off sharply and then rises rapidly again. On this second section of ridge, which has lots of trees, there are also many exposed rock formations. In one of these rocky sections is a small sandstone cave that is open to the east but also has a "window" to the west.

Generally I’m not a fan of hiking in the East Bay, as I find the parks/trails to be generally exposed hillsides with lots of ups and downs (for no reason) - at least compared to the trails on the Peninsula and North Bay. That said, I was pleasantly surprised by the Corduroy Hills hikes in Las Trampas. Given the number of cars in the parking areas on Sunday morning, I was really concerned that the trails would be overly busy, but it seems like most folks opted for Rocky Ridge (on the opposite side of the canyon/park). Corduroy hills is about six miles and involves 2,000 feet of elevation change - definitely one of the tougher hikes given the distance. It’s a loop trail that offers nice views of Mt. Diablo and the Las Trampas canyon area. Partial shade is probably the best way to describe it as you meander in and out of tree covered areas, and then spend about half the hike on exposed grasslands. All-in-all a solid hike that isn’t nearly as crowded as I would have expected.

“We ask all applicants to provide a brief statement explaining why they want to kill themselves, how much better off the world will be without them, and how they imagine benefiting from the Super 8 spaces that have inspired so many writers before them to take their own life. While the length of the program is open-ended, our writers typically choose to conclude their residency after a few days or even hours.” Holmes went on to say that Super 8 guests who aren’t part of the residency program often feel inspired to start writing anyway.

This is great nearby hiking area that connects to a much larger East Bay MUD open space. There is one paved road that starts at the Bollinger Canyon parking lot. Use that (steep) path when it is wet. The remaining trails are well used, but muddy clay when it has rained recently. Great views all over the Bay Area from the top of the ridges. Kids will enjoy finding fossil shell fish in outcrops of marine sandstone along several ridge crests.

Good for beginner hikers. Though some areas are pretty steep but it is not difficult. Part of the park are covered with trees that will keep you cool on hot days. On wet days, you can hike up the cement path if you choose to. Dogs are allowed to walk off leash. Please note that cows are in the park and you may share the path with them sometimes.

From the staging area, the Bollinger Canyon Loop is a perfect morning jaunt along a sunny open ridge, then through a forested creek with seasonal water. This park has a great variety of terrain and inclines so everyone can find a suitable excursion from the parking lot.

Located in the East Bay, some of the trails in this park include steep sections for a challenging run or hike. Many of the trails, such as the Loop, Bollinger Creek and Rocky Ridge View trails are exposed (no shade). The expansive views at the top are lovely.

One of the latest and greatest additions to the East Bay Park Districts growing park system. Climb high over Danville where the air is rare and people few, but bring a lot of energy or even a bike. Connects both sides of freeway for a nice 17-mile? loop

Rocky ridge loop trail is the best in the bay area. Lot of paleontological significance. You can also find the sea shell fossils and rock formations from millions of years ago. Proof that this hills were under the ocean at some point.

Very tranquil and serene, but still close enough to get back to your grind. On a lucky day, the low clouds will be your carpet on the ridge. Lots of calm wildlife to view as well. Totally worth the short trip off 680.

Great place to go on a hike, on any day! Fantastic location for photography and movie making. Just dont trespass on someones property. Even if theyre target shooting illegally. In that case, report them to the SRPD.

Some initial steep paths, but after you get to the fire road, its more gentle. You see majestic oaks and lush madrones along the way. Beautiful vista of the San Ramon valley and Mount Diablo. Great all season hike.

The Bollinger Creek Trail Loop is mostly shaded. It meets the Las Trampas Trail and that is shaded too. Overall a good 3 mile loop hike from the staging area.

Beautiful park with tons of trails to hike through. Several spots for picnics, and even some short / not too steep hikes if you have younger kids with you.

Perfect for a few hours of Trek. You can see the bay from the top. Parking space is limited, try to reach early else can park on the other side of trail.

Maybe it was just the trail we were on but if you like California brown, not a lot of shade, and lots of cow poop, this is the place.

Killer hike with great views. Go right from the beginning to feel the pain. Go left initially to take some time to warm up.

Hidden gem. Most are put off by the first mile of the hike, which is up, up, up. But the views are worth it.
