Beautiful, charming old fashioned theater, lacking in modernity Pros: This is an absolutely beautiful movie theater. There are a large number of great paintings, murals, chandeliers, overall excellent upkeep. It does not feel like a theater lobby, but more like an opera lobby. Its located in an easy to find location. Quick, easy access to public transit, few blocks away from Bart/Muni and easy parking. Overall the architecture and everything but the theater itself is pretty fabulous. Cons: The actual theater/room is quite a disappointment. The sound was slightly distorted and slightly overpowering. More so than expected. The legroom was quite tight, and the seats are quite narrow. The screen was much smaller than expected approximately the size of a standard theater about two stories tall, even though it said IMAX upon entering. The overall experience of watching the movie was definitely lacking in many regards. Tips: Bart/Muni has fairly easy access, just a few blocks walk away, however at night this area is not necessarily the safest. There is a parking lot for the theater with easy acess to the movie theater, so parking is easy.

Love coming to this theater. Its a short walk from my home which helps it get a lot of my bushiness, but it also shows almost all the big movies that I want to see. And even if the 14 doesnt have the movie I want, I can walk down to the AMC 16 downtown, to catch what they miss. The theaters themselves are are very well kept up and for all practical purposes new. The movie screens are huge, the sound system is awesome and can You tell I really like it here? Ive never had a bad experience here, sure Ive seen some bad movies, but Ive never had a bad experience with the staff or the facilities. For those that drive, there is an attached parking garage that my friends use when they are in town. Nice and secure, they have never had a problem leaving their car there for a few hours or even a few days and the theater validates.

I remembered when this place first opened, the place was jammed packed. I actually like coming here because it isnt crazy full and we can usually get a decent seat. The only downside is if you come here during summer break, summer programs bring kids here that are unruly and just runs a muck. Things I find a bit of an inconvenience is that the snack bar might not be open on your floor so you either have to go up or down after finding a sign telling you which floor to go to. Then you have to ride the escalator up/down to get where you need. Theres plenty of parking in the garage. If you decide to park on the streets, watch out for the homeless man who stands in parking spots demanding payment. He just jumps right into the street suddenly. Hes harmless, but you really dont want to hit him with your car.

My boyfriend and I went here to watch Deadpool. I bought a discounted ticket that is offered through my work and was able to use it for the movie which was a relief! I thought it wasnt going to work because it said it excluded some particular movies produced by specific companies. Anyway, the reason this place is getting a low rating from me was because half way through, the elevators were stopped so we had to climb a couple of sets of stairs. Not trying to be lazy, but it was just inefficient and an inconvenience for some people who are less abled. The other reason was that the lights in the theater were on for more than 10 minutes until someone decided to go down to management and let them know that the lights were still on. Would I come back here again? Eh...

An overall good theater. Nice seats and big high quality screens with the usual concessions from AMC Theatres. A little pricier than other theaters being that its in the city, of course. (although, i think metreons prices are a bit higher) The biggest complaint and warning I will give is their "LIEMAX" screen. This locations "IMAX" screen is a total disappointment. It is nothing like the proper IMAX screen that is at the Metreon location. I would honestly advise you to NOT pay the IMAX upcharge and watch the film normally instead. If you want an actual IMAX screen, go to Metreon instead (if that film is showing there). Overall: A fine AMC Theatres location, but buyer beware of their IMAX screen!

I recently went to AMC Van Ness 14 to watch Gone Girl. This review is not about the movie - the movie was great. Go see it. Now!! The theater on the other hand left a little to be desired. It felt incredibly dated and for the steep movie prices in SF, I would have hoped for a little better. I wouldnt say you shouldnt go here, but I just felt like I had overpaid for my experience a bit. In sum: -the theater does not have too many shows going at any one time, so you dont feel like youre being trampled in a herd -friendly enough staff -comfortable, but old chairs (how many tons of popcorn might be stuck in between the seats?)

AMC Van Ness now has an IMAX theater but you are better off not paying extra for IMAX at this theater since the screen size isnt as big and the sound effects are pretty much non existent. If you have been to the IMAX at AMC Metreon or at any other place, you know how big the screen is and how the speakers/woofers are behind the perforated screen. The other screens are ok but IMAX is not worth it since they remodelled one of the old screens to IMAX. The screens are split in 3 floors so it might take you a while to get to the theaters on the top floor and parking isnt always easy to find so head to the theater early.

Decent theaters with good seating. Parking can be a hassle. You can either park in the tiny parking spaces in the garage for a discounted fee. Or if youre brave, leave your car in the elements that is the Tenderloin. When I watched Mad Max: Fury Road, the theater was uncomfortable hot. I know the movie takes place in a desert, but I didnt expect to feel like Im in one. I was sitting all the way in the back, and the air wasnt well circulated I guess. The good thing about this theater is that its centrally located. For someone that lives in the outlying neighborhoods, its nice not going all the way downtown.

I am furnishing general comments regarding AMC 14, 1000 Van Ness, San Francisco: I like your redesigned format for the movies shown, but some does not have the showtimes listed. For instance "Fences" showtimes are not listed, but times for the other movies are shown? Is there some reason the showtimes for fences is not listed? I had to go to the theater lobby to find out the showtimes. I gave the times to my visiting relatives and they did see the movie while visiting, Furthermore, the showtimes for all movies being shown at this theater should be available to the general public for all to see.

Very uncomfortable. This makes the third or fourth film thats been ruined by the theater being unbearably warm. As I did before, I reported the problem. This time I found out that the problem is that the HVAC system is controlled by an outside company and the management and the workers can only report the problem to Trane, the HVC company. Its not that the workers didnt try to fix the problem but, as it turned out, nothing improved and pretty much everyone in the Theater took off everything they could and stay decent. Dont know what well do going forward. we like this theater.
