On 1/10/2013 I went to the Shady Lady to celebrate my friends Birthday. While there a customer that was not part of my group brought his bicycle onto the smoking patio. Apparently that is against the rules. A secretly guard then yelled at him and said "Hey I dont care if it is your best friend(the bicycle) my gun is my best friend and you dont see me waving it around." I came to the Shady Lady to enjoy a nice cold beer and hang with my friend on his birthday and now I have to listen to a employee talk about how he wants to pull out his gun. I will not be going to this place any more. I felt threatened and that the comment was way out of line. We all now about how Sacramento has been lately. With the shooting in Old Sac. I go to places like the Shady Lady to not have to deal with this sort of stuff. It was not one of the two door guys either. Some tall dark guy who I guess was managing security inside.

Acceptable food. The "large plate" of mussels was half the size of the steak salad, for some reason, at a higher price (even though right now mussels and decent steak are pretty much the same price). The broth for the mussels was pure salt - had to drink lots of water to get it down. 3 tiny (!!) morsels of bread come with this dish, so i guess they dont expect you to soak up the broth with it, as is customary with mussels ... Service was fine. Instead of splitting our bill across 2 credit cards, they charged the same card twice, and then when we said all the receipts were for the same card, the waitress said, slightly aggressively, "no, let me show you, the numbers are different..." but then she saw they werent, and went back to charge the other card. I hope this means she didnt charge one of the cards twice AND the other card once. Well see. Nice room, though, and pleasantly cool.

Fantastic atmosphere pretty much anytime, complimented by classic drinks and great fare. The bar really lights up once the brass band starts at nine on Friday and Saturday nights. It can be a bit loud at times, making the already hectic bar even more difficult to order at. Unfortunately, the limiting factor for The Shady Lady is the capacity. Wait times for tables often exceed an hour during peak hours and moving anywhere requires squeezing and excusing. The one reprieve is the front smoking section which is closed off so you can drink with tables on one side, benches on the other. The front door staff are exceptional and also have lighters too which comes in handy when yours gets misplaced. Overall I love this bar. The whiskey sour is superb and the charcuterie board is a must have. Even when crowded the high points make it worth it.

By far the best place to go if youre looking for a nice place to chill and have the best drink of your life. The drinks might be on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for. Last time I went I tasted the best Gin Daisy Id ever have. Now thats not a drink you hear about everyday, but if you have a good one, youll dream about it for a week. The interior of the place is absolutely gorgeous. I want my house the same. It resembles a 1920s burlesque saloon, in the most classy way. You have to go there, especially on Wednesday when Shaun Slaughter is spinning music from the 20s, 30s & 40s. It pulls the whole feeling of the place together, sort of taking you away to another time. It deserves all five stars. Sorry for the bad grammar, the web was turning all my aprostrophes into weird web lingo.

Food was great. Service was nonexistent from our bar man with pointy mustache and chin beard. I would have thought it was just us that he was actively ignoring but we had several people come up by us at the bar who were confused as to why it was sooo hard to order a drink or even be acknowledged when approaching the bar. Hey dude, you exist for one purpose.... serving the customer and not your ego and your belief that mixing a couple of drinks makes you something special. We quickly figured out to just bypass this premadona and draw in help from the other side of the bar. Pity one bad apple spoils the barrel, because this place has great potential.

The chicken plate was $20 for one piece of chicken, dark meat, and very very small portion of greens and Mac and cheese. When they first opened the food was amazing. I believe they are riding the on the steam of what they used to be. This food was barely edible. The waitress was hot but had the personality of a hipster with parents that were first cousins and when deliverd my plate of food prodded at the chicken with her long fake nails. It was all I could to pretend it didnt happen. I would rather pull a cooks hair out of my mouth then watch my food get molested by a Lee press one nail. Its always sad when a good restaurants goes bad.

Fun place to hang out. Four of us had a quiet Monday lunch. Server was friendly and attentive. One friend had a Wedge Salad- She said it was very good. it looked very good. My wife had the Southern Fried Chicken, not special... Batter crisp but not flavorful, deep fried Mac and cheese didnt make it. Greens way too bitter. My friend and I had the pastrami Reuben. Super greasy and made with crispy over done, grilled pastrami. Who grills pastrami till its like a bacon before it goes in?.... His side Caesar Salad was very good. My side salad (vinegarette) was OK... Such nice people, but three out of four lunches did not make it...

One of the best cocktail bars in Sacramento. They have bartenders who really know their craft, decent food and ample seating if you are there for a meal. If not, be prepared to stand or sit at the bar. Shady Lady specializes in scotch cocktails, so if you have never tried one before, Id give one a shot. The decor is fun. Lots of deep red, wood grain, leather and velvet. Great service and talented bar staff, but this place can get busy, particularly on the weekends. Good live music on the weekends, no cover. This place sells cigars as well, so if that is your jam, you are in luck. Atmosphere 5/5 Service 5/5 Food 3/5 Cocktails 5/5

I keep coming back, but not sure for how long. This place has fantastic curb appeal. Decor, the bar, the art, its all quite fantastic. And if youre looking for a period, prohibition atmosphere, just go there. Service is slow, but out of fairness, they do warn you service is a bit slow. But I mentioned I may not go back. And thats got more to do with the clientele and oddly, it appears some of them are there with/for the staff. Weird conversations and just less-than-enjoyable bar ambiance. Thats all Ill say on that. Three times in a row and I think Ill find a new place to hang out at when Im in town.

This place saves my life, I am a 70 yr old man who has Parkinsons heart disease, and suffer from extreme anxiety and depression. All of folks that work there are extremely kind, the drinks made by the bartenders are awesome, I cant name everyone , but from the doorman to the, food, bar and bands all good. Some of the names Dan who is a manager and excellent singer or rapper Sam the waitress,Satori,I believe Nate, there are many whos names I forget but I know them on site. They remember mine and many other patrons. They care about being of Service to serve Us.I give it 50 stars like the Flag.
