Saying Ive been to a lot of concerts would probably be the biggest understatement of the year. With that being said, Ive been to a lot of different venues but time and time again, I wind up at the Fox. But you know what? I aint even mad. Fox Theater is such a beautiful older venue. Theres seats at the top and the lower level is all GA. I cant vouch for the upper level because Im always GA, but the GA is pretty awesome. Theres multiple tiers in the GA area, the main floor itself and I believe two additional tiers. When youre like me and starting to feel too old and un-hip for the GA crowd, you can always just go up a tier or two and still feel like youre up close and in on the action when you really arent. Tips: --The best views are from the 2nd tier right at the rails. If you can get to this spot, stay there! Its not as crowded and your view will be unobstructed since the only people in front of you are on a lower tier. --Utilize Bart!! The 19th St station is a block away from the venue. Shows typically end at 11pm so you should not have any problem. --Enjoy the local bars within walking distance BEFORE going in to the Fox. Its cheaper and theres a lot of different bars only steps away from the Fox. --If you do get drinks, there are 3 bars immediately inside of the main floor. This makes it a lot easier should you decide to drink during the show. --Theres a small lot ~2 blocks away. Its around $10 but verrrry limited. Theres also a small lot with an attended on the next street over, and thats somewhere between $15-$20. Not sure if theres any other lots, but there is street parking available (sometimes). Decently priced tickets, beautiful venue, and the close proximity to Bart easily make this place my favorite place to see a concert. Be back soon, Fox Theater!

Its in Oakland. Thats my only negative. That being said, the surrounding area is a very nice part of town. Lots of renewal going on down there and Ive never felt any concern about leaving a concert at 11 to walk to my parking. There are parking lots all around but I like the one behind and down the block a bit. Now for the great stuff. This place is something that SHOULD be seen. First of all, do yourself a favor and get the floor seats/general admission. I really dont care to sit up in the balcony, too far from all the action. I have seen a ton of concerts here and have never had a bad experience. Not only is the architecture beautiful but the way in which the floor is terraced, its really easy for even a shorter person, such as I, to get a good line of sight. Something that a lot of people miss is the bar at the front. Before you enter the main room, head to the right. Over by the restrooms, there is a hallway that passes through some old Westinghouse sound equipment to the front bar. Great place to hang out before the show or if you just need a break from it all. Lots of flat screens all around so you wont miss what you came for. They also serve food from Rudis Cant Fail Cafe which is located next door. Actual GOOD food at a concert, what a concept!!!

I have experienced many shows in this fine old theatre over the last ten years. All where live music and all where fine experiences from a venue perspective. The staff are always professional and friendly more often than not. They have full bar service at this venue, but I have never felt that there were to many "drunk & obnoxious" folks around me. They probably stay over in the side bar! The atmosphere here can often be amazing and diverse. The Tegan and Sarah concert I experienced here was one of the best ever for me and I went with a friend who is a huge fan my appreciation for these great ladies grew dramatically after watching them live and feeling the fantastic energy of their audience. All the shows I have experienced here have been well produced. My last show was Generation Axe and my friends and I had good fun, the audience was quite entertaining and telling of the music ;-) So if love classically designed "old theaters", the ability to side up on a balcony, or dance around on the main floor while enjoying a cocktail, this is place for you. The acoustics are good and most of the acts have sound folks who utilize them well.

I always love going to the Fox despite its one key weakness as a music venue - the acoustics. As a history 1920s Art Deco building it just wasnt built to be optimal for modern amplified music. Theyve improved it over the years but it can still be hit an miss - either hang out near the back where the sound booths are or at the rear of the front section. Otherwise you may be struggling with too much bass or not enough something else. However, in every other respect I love this place. Lots of room to move around, many, many bars, awesome architecture, extremely good ventilation (it can actually be too cold there so be warned), easy to access. Theres a lot of local restaurants and night life around the Theater for your before and after entertainment. For popular gigs it can be quite a zoo when you get out. Easy access from 19th St BART which is highly recommended over trying to drive into Oakland and park on a weekend night.

My first concert here and I already found the place to be really well kept up. The box office is on the side, which the security staff was very kind to walk us over. Everyone is very nice here and made getting into the venue frustration free. We got floor tickets to a concert. I like that the place was clean and the floor wasnt one bit sticky like other places Ive been. Because my daughter is short, we didnt go into the first level (the pit) and opted to stay at the rails in the middle section. We had a great unobstructed view of the band and got to lean on the rails when waiting. I looked up parking lots on the map and was directed to many that were a few blocks away. Theres a parking lot at 17th street (the Rotunda) that was very easy to get to and a quick 3 minute walk to the venue.

An absolutely stunning venue to enjoy a show, the art deco interior by itself is probably worth a viewing. I had the pleasure of catching Diana Krall and her crew of exceptional musicians on our Wallflower World Tour and enjoyed it immensely. Some reviews mentioned problems with acoustics, I had a balcony seat near the rear and the sound came across loud and clear as if Diana Krall was singing to me in the intimacy of my own living room. The theatre seemed well planned for crowd control and theres little wait time to get in/out before and after the show. Lots of parking available around the venue. I went on a Sunday night and most of the restaurants and shops around were closed, something to bear in mind if you plan to check out the neighborhood.
