Right now, sitting at my desk with my decent computer speakers, Im listening to the debut album from Cymbals Eat Guitars with an empty feeling at the incredible experience of which I was robbed. My wife and I went to the Echo last night to see Cymbals Eat Guitars and were sorely disappointed with the sound. The system was simply way too loud for the room (like, conservatively, 12+ dB, often exceeding the pain threshold in something like a 4000 sq. foot space with nowhere to run) and the bass was boosted so far that everything above it was masked, which precluded earplugs from being a viable option. It was so bad it could have been a joke, albeit a terrible ear damaging joke. I give the place two stars instead of one to entertain the possibility that just maybe these werent the regular sound guys and its not always like this. Its a real shame. Everything else about the place is good: the size and decor are cozy, the bar was generously stocked (though we didnt drink last night), the crowd was cool except for the usual couple of outliers, and the bands that come through are really great. Fix the sound!! Id consider reporting these guys to OSHA with purely artistic motivations.

1st time goer... The music is definitely not for anyone that actually knows about reggae I guess if youre not Mexican you really cant tell whats good Mexican music and whats bad Mexican music. Likewise with reggae. I went there and its the music mom listens to While cooking on a Sunday evening. The DJ is horrible, plays one good song and the 10 bad ones and when hes losing the crowd he plays one more good one to giveem hope people dont party to conscious music FYI! !!! Not even one Beres Hammond song. Not even once! The black bartender is not pleasant and one security guard with dreads was very uninviting. I wont be returning.

Great venue, dont get me wrong. Parking does get a bit difficult, and make sure youre girl/guy ratio is 2:1. I invited a single friend to party with us, and we had issues getting him in. We were about 5 couples, + my single friend. He ran to his car to get jacket, and he came back we were getting in. The bouncer, gave him a hard time, asked him to get back in line. After a long discussion, we finally got him in...

ok i do give props to the good sometimes even great music that can vibe with this place, however i am utterly DISGUSTED by the energy Of the people at the Door. Reggae and Dub music is meant for Humanity and if PIG/RATmanity decide to taint with the Sacred Spirit of Roots, then they better prepare for dOOm. F Ur $ F ur Liquor and F ur Hoes and CrOwes!!!!!! F U BABYLON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fun free concerts most Monday nights with local up and coming LA bands. The sound system needs some serious improvements but for free its great. The beers are definitely overpriced though for a dive-bar music venue like it is. You can order pizza from the place next door and they have a great back patio with tables- its where most of the hipsters of silver lake and echo park go to smoke.

I came for a concert, so the small venue was awesome. It was a little gross looking on the outside but inside was cleaner with ample seating and decent bathrooms. The bar made things a little sticky, as one girl near me kept spilling beer on my shoes and other people were getting pretty sloshed. But the ticket was cheap and the parking was free so who am I to complain? Would come again.

They lost my drivers license and credit card, and made me feel guilty when I got upset. Doorman rude, ticket girl rude, manager rude. The manager, Ruth, never got back to me, even though she promised shed look for my cards personally and call me the next day. This is the only bar Ive ever been to that took my drivers license along with my credit card to start a tab. LOSERS.

I was visiting Los Angeles over the summer and heard a lot about this place prior to my visit. We went to the Soul/Jazz night and had an okay time. It was a bit overcrowded for us and the drinks are $$$. The sound system could definitely use some work (fuzzy, unclear, way too loud). Overall pretty fun, I would go back again - perhaps on a week day next time!

Came and did bottle service for my birthday. Everything was spot on - Music combined with the remodel definitely vibes well! Girl guy ratio was solid, not that we care about such things. They built a bar upstairs where the old coat check used to be. Great place to catch a friend and a shot.

Another one of the great little concert venues in Los Angeles. Note that this is not hte Echoplex (theyre owned by the same people, the buildings are linked, but they are two distinct venues, the Echo is the smaller one with the entrance on Sunset). Great free residencies on Mondays.

I know people (some artists who even play there) who have sworn not to go there anymore do to the "small penis" complex of the security staff. They tend to be rude and hawkish. There is always someone getting into it with the echo-plex gastapo every time I end up going.

My new favorite venue , THANK YOU FOR LAST NIGHTS SHOW ! This is the reason hands down why I prefer going to rock shows in Los Angeles. I loved the venue , people, and just plain culture and music this place emits. GO TO A SHOW and stop reading my review

Upside- Great price. Free or $5.00. Tons of parking on the street. Outdoor Patio has own Dj and bar. Really cool bouncers. Downside- a bunch of off beat hipsters that have genterfied Echo park because they cant afford Hollywood

This is one of the best chill clubs anywhere. Everyday and night its a different genre. I go to the Dubb Club on Weds nights. Free before 10pm $7 afterwards. Except when theres live performance. 5 stars all the way. R O C K S

Went on a Saturday, it was funk soul night. DJ spinning lesser known gems, people of all walks mingling and the backyard was the icing on the cake. Had a great time and I came alone like the trooper I am.

Probably my favorite small venue in LA and lots of bands i like play here. The back patio is a nice place to hangout with friends in between sets, or just waiting for the lame band to finish.

Perfection. Small, intimate. Good bar selection. Bad bar service, at least when I went. Interesting to find parking, but its Sunset so expect that. Overall, I loved my experience there

Awesome venue. Decently priced drinks. Good sound. Patio is nice. Emo Night the first Tuesday of the month is a lot of fun. Funky Sole on Saturdays fills your need to funk/soul.
