Back in 1985, when I was a freshman at Belmont High School, I lived two blocks away from MacArthur Park. Even back then the park was not a safe place to visit, especially at night. I recall one night, my friend and I were hanging out in the playground when she decided to go for a run around the park, it must have been close to midnight. So, she took off running even before I had a chance to talk her out of it. She started heading west towards Park View Street, but even before she made it half ways, an unknown man approached her and struck her with a punch to the stomach, as she felt to the ground and he walked away from her, but then suddenly turned around and began walking in the direction of friend again, not sure why, but when he saw me running to the help of my friend he took off south towards Wilshire Boulevard, which runs between both parks (MacArthur Park & MacArthur Park Lake). As I approached my friend, I feared that she had been struck with a knife, but luckily she had just been sucker punched. An unknown man who had seen what happened came to check up on us. We quickly left the park that night, but the incident did not keep us from revisiting the park many more times... I guess we were young and reckless, like most teenagers at that age. I left that neighborhood back in 1990 when I joined the Navy. I have driven by the area many times since then, but have not seen any improvements to the park or the neighborhood. If you have no business there, especially at night time, I would strongly recommend that you stay clear of MacArthur Park. Former Resident of Westlake Area (cir. 1985-1990) - Guillermo Quezada

This is a large city park with a lake on one side and playground on the other side. There are several public art displays scattered around the parkas well. Unfortunately the park has become a haven for the homeless to camp out and by the looks of it, some have made permanent residency in the park for quite some time. The lake is dirty and all sorts of garbage can be seen at the bottom if you look closely through all the muck. On the lake side, along the border wall, any hidden alcove, or trash can you can easily find discarded syringes. Hangout in the park long enough and your sure to either get robbed, ripped off, score some drugs, buy stolen merchandise, etc. Most of the public art displays are in a state of decay, a thick layer of duck and dog feces covers everything, the water is sludge, the sidewalks and walk paths are lined with tents and drug dealings. The homeless population may seem intimidating but as long as you dont bother them they arent looking to bother anyone else either except for the occasional scam artist more likely to be found around the entrances to the park. I actually walked all over the park taking 360 degree VR panorama photos for Google Street View recently and was not questioned or bothered the entire time even though I was wandering around close to several encampments taking photos looking suspicious and vulnerable. It would be nice if the homeless would condense their occupation of the park so that the general public can also enjoy the area, and if they would be more considerate about keeping the area clean and free of discarded paraphernalia.

What A Big Protest Against Donald J. Trump! Believe it or Not, I did Vote For Hillary Rodham Clinton who sadly did Not Win! However, I had to cover this Very Special And/Or Historic Event and so Anthony DeGoede and myself (Howard Paul Shore) arrived to Macarthur Park back on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at around 10:00 a.m. to walk with the crowd, take pictures, mingle, exchange ideas, etc. on What To Do Next? This was probably the largest protest that I have ever attended and so we All walked from Macarthur Park down to the Federal Building Located at: 300 North Los Angeles Street, Los Angeles, California 90012 which was 3.2 miles. It was quite a long walk, but well worth it! There were thousands of people bearing thousands of different signs showing their feelings, emotions, opinions, freedoms of speech, etc. from all walks of life and backgrounds as well! We did Not have a sign, but there were more than enough signs to make up for it! Yes, I did take plenty of pictures and enclosed in the attachments, please find several pictures that I have taken for your review and further reference. Thank you. Sincerely yours, Howard Paul Shore Anthony DeGoede Walkers, Protesters, Writers And Promoters /HPS

Its the worst place in terms of a "good park" from my experience. Well, what determines park being a good park? Clean, lots of trees, nature, atmosphere and people. In McArtur park you will find the following: Trash and bad smell are following you everywhere you go..Park itself is not that great either. A lot of people were taking shower in the fountain and washing their clothes. Area around the park sucks too. Its kind of dangerous to walk there alone at evening time.. Its very dirty place, homeless people are lined up around 99 cent store. And if you walk a little bit down the street, that is where skid row starts. It was a great experience of such kind but I would not recommend to go there if you want to have a good time with your family and friends.

This is what happens when a city stops caring about parks?!!?!?!?!!? How about a city that stopped caring about the largest homeless population in the United States?!!?! If youre more concerned about a concrete park than the people forced to live in it youre seriously part of this countrys problem, NOT the solution. They wash their laundry in the fountain & that offends you?? Did you ever stop to think maybe they need CLEAN laundry to go to job interviews!?!!? Or are you offering to pay their dry cleaning bill?? You people are horribly FLAWED. This review has been brought to you by a degree holding Social Worker whos worked with the homeless all over the U.S. Some of you are a lot more frightening than THEM. Shame on you,

I visited here during the anti-trump protest post his election for the express reason of getting to see people at their worst believing they are doing their best and enjoying the chuckle that would surly follow. MacArthur Park was well equipped with the necessary space and amenities it took to carry all these bolt-cutters along on their journey to be heard that morning, all ten thousand of them. Which says alot about a park that can handle that many counter-culture individuals ontop of the usual bunch of dope dealers and crack heads milling about. Oh and this park was mentioned on the movie Training Day for anyone who likes a bit of Hollywood nostalgia to mix up their thought a bit.
