Very disappointing....... - NO ONE WORKS HERE - the gates are never open so everyone walking to the park has to go to the middle entrance to start their run or walk etc.... - the bathrooms smell like piss & there is no soap or hand sanitizer - the constantly shut the park down for for-profit events that make INCREDIBLE amounts of noise and disturbances to the neighborhood AND destroy the grass. I have no idea why its necessary to add rock bands onto movie screenings. People living nearby dont want to come home from a long days work and have to hear these NOISE VIOLATIONS. Most people in the area cant afford $21 movies or $100 concerts. Yet we have to endure the price of the park hosting them. Most positive reviews here are people who dont even live in LA coming to one of these events. Be aware - your fun is at the expense of someone else. - the grass is constantly blocked off by police tape for repair because of events - you can even see the square like shapes of the structures that caused the damage to the grass. So this park is not a "GREEN SPACE" for the public - its a brown grass space. They should have just left it as it was before. -- People fly drones here, so only come if you want to be filmed. Not sure why this is legal, tons of kids are at this park and I dont want some pervert filiming my children play. People come to the park for PEACE AND QUIET not to have bugs in the sky capturing video - the running track is much worse. Its smaller than before, often a gate is closed so you have to cut part of your loop short and squiggle through around the parking lot... OR run outside of the park on the concrete then re-enter the park. One lap used to be a mile, now its cut to less than that. I waited years for this park to re-open and its so much worse. I wish they would have left it as it was before. This park should serve the public, and not hosting large concert events. Someone must have made a boatload of money on the renovations here, its definitely not 23m or whatever was paid for it.

I posted the original review in May 2015. Today it is Dec 2016 and they still have not completed this "park". Look, I am a Liberal and damn proud to be one but the People of the State of California are being ripped off with this "park". It has been under "RE-construction" for a couple of years now and it looks the same as it did when they started. This is the kind of boondoggle that Conservatives use, disingenuously I might add, when they want to make cuts to other things that we as taxpayers honestly need. Someone needs to investigate who is milking the contract for this "park". Someone has pocketed a bunch of YOUR money and made a mess out of what was already a decent park. I wouldnt doubt that its a Republican contractor and a Democratic elected official. A perfect example of why Trump (God help us) is probably going to be elected President and the 9th seat of the SCOTUS will go empty for 4 more years. This kind of thing should be prosecuted.

A great place to jog, walk or have a picnic. As it is a California State Park it is staffed by park rangers who vigilantly keep it pristine. You will never find public park bathrooms as clean as this anywhere else in the city! The jogging loop is about 1.1 miles long. Indigenous plants (ie. wildflowers) give the place a local flavor and maybe a vague idea of what things were like before the city was colonized. The park could use a bit more shade but Im sure that will improve as the many trees they planted during the renovation grow and mature. Parking is paid but you can usually find street parking nearby unless there is a huge event it something going on. Finally, it would be nice if the bathrooms had baby changing tables but again, these are the finest bathrooms youll ever see at a public park.

Paid for $250 a VIP ticket to the 2013 Hard Day of the Dead concert. During the headlining performance I went to use the restroom and found they had shut all but one of the VIP toilets down and locked them. As the person in front of me exited the last remaining bathroom, an employee cut in front of me and locked the door. He told me to use the bathrooms outside the VIP area, even though almost none of them had toilet paper and I had paid to use the ones he just locked. Almost two hours before the final act ended the bar closed (fair enough), but security was pushing through VIP area and asking people to finish their drinks or throw them away. Also had no seating in the VIP area, unlike last year.

I had the pleasure of attending the grand re-opening of LASHP which was a fun-filled day of activities and dignitaries. Two months later though, the part is still not completed. You can see where sod is still being placed and already cables on the bridge have been broken. I just hope the city does not allow it to get run down by over permitting concert-like events. Additionally, kids should not be riding their bikes on the grass; there are paved and marked paths for this. Great open space in the middle of the city for kite flying.

Augh... What a waste of $24mm. Parks are suppose to be places with green grass for laying on... and big shade trees to cool you from the sun. These new drought tolerant parks are a big waste. No wants to sit on dirt and no one likes a park without big beautiful shade trees. The homeless wont even go there, so as sure as heck, the tax payer doesnt enjoy them either. Drought tolerant is political self pleasuring... it sounds good at the time but when you are done you are embarrassed and wish you could take it back.

Huge! This park is a fantastic place to walk, run or bike. Great especially if you have young children. Lots of room to run. Or you can just sit and people watch, read a book or chat with friends. Also great for dog walking. The landscaping is beautifully done. They also have regular events sponsored by the park that are free. Its located downtown in Chinatown. There is a lot of history to learn as well. Its a very safe environment and is always clean. Enjoy!

Ive been walking that park for many years along with my wife and occasionally other friends. The restoration and development of this park feels like a rip off. Originally we were told it would take one year- this was almost three years ago. We need this park now. Politicians miss use our tax dollars and line there pockets with payoffs for voting in support of this or that. Why dont they represent our interests (The People)! GET IT DONE

Original settlement land of LA, the land of Las Pabladoras or "The First People" where early development and agriculture took place. Unfortunately the low lying land relative to the LA river flooded before modern improvements, prompting the relocation of structures to the present day Olvera Street. The open field has been useful for concerts and festivities, although lacking as an historical exhibit or showplace!

Near downtown and next to Chinatown, LAs newest state park is 32 acres of grassy fields and knolls. Unlike Grand Park which is more of an urban, city park, the LA State Historic Park is much more open and seems like it will make a great place for large gatherings, perhaps festivals, outdoor movie screenings, etc. With a pedestrian bridge and a spectacular view of the downtown skyline, this park is a must-go!!
